GO
The Cimitero
Monumentale,
or “monumental
cemetery”, may
seem a strange place
to visit but, like Père
Lachaise in Paris,
this fascinating and
historic attraction is
an open-air museum
of sculpture. The
higher up the social
scale you were,
the more marble
you left behind;
novelist Alessandro
Manzoni has his
own gothic temple
(Piazzale Cimitero
Monumentale,
tel: 02 659 9938).
ESCAPE
The
historic abbey of
Chiaravalle makes an
interesting escape
just outside the city
to the southwest.
One of Milan’s
most impressive
architectural
monuments, it was
founded by Saint
Bernard of Clairvaux
and became home
to the Cistercian
Monks. The present
building dates from
the 13th century.
Take the metro to
San Donato, then
it’s a 10-minute
ride by taxi.
NOWAY!
Followers of Milan and
Inter football clubs
call themselves
tifosi

unruly behaviour.
The term originally
meant “carriers

A short hop from
busy Corso Como,
Smoking Kills is a new
venue with a more
eclectic vibe than
the usual Milanese
posing ritual, offering
DJ sets in a range of
different music styles
on theme nights.
Entrance fee includes
