Tunnel vision
In our monthly peek through
the eye of a local photographer,
Nick Frank
tells us about his
sci-fi vision of Munich’s U-Bahn
“
almost all my shots
are taken around 6am on
a Sunday. I like that time of day as it feels good
to explore the stations in silence. It’s pretty
relaxed. There are no distractions, no speaker
announcements, no service or maintenance staff.
Even the people you see are very different from those
you come across on a normal working day.
“
I’ve been doing architectural shots since
I took up photography in late 2010.
I don’t use flash. I’m not a big fan
of tripods, but with so little
available light you sometimes
have to use one. There are
usually a few lost souls
sleeping or wandering
around, so I do some
retouching afterwards.
“
What am I trying to
achieve? My aim is not to
represent reality, but a personal
interpretation. It’s like sci-fi. I like to
think it’s kind of a combination of 2001: A
Space Odyssey and Blade Runner. For me, shooting
architecture is about self-discovery and interpreting
something differently. It’s always my own
interpretation, which is what makes it so exciting for
me. I like to think there is a bit of me in every picture.”
