Mermerli Plaj is a small, sandy beach hugging the Kaleiçi (old city) walls, just a short walk from the historic central area. Enter via
Mermerli Restaurant (
mermerlirestaurant.com
); the small fee is well worth it for the view. A short and nostalgic tram ride west
from Kaleiçi is Beach Park at Konyaaltı, a green, leafy park set behind a long, pebbly beach with loads of activities for children, as
well as cafés and showers. Out to the east of the city are the sandy stretches of Lara Beach, with spectacular sand sculptures at
Lara Sandland (
larasandland.com
). Alternatively, at the town of Side, about a 45-minute drive away, beaches are a sunseeker’s
paradise, and offer plenty to keep children happy too. Water sports, diving, boat trips and fishing provide plenty of distractions.
