WHENATTALUS II
, who was king of Pergamum, an ancient Greek city in what is now
modern-day Turkey, decided he needed a change of scenery, he sent his most valued
courtiers out into the world to find paradise – or, at least, the next best thing. And, lo and
behold, in 150BC, they stumbled upon a very beautiful spot by the sea and founded the city
of Attalia, as it was then known. Today, the modern city of Antalya and the region around it
is known for its beautiful beaches, ancient architecture and abundant open spaces, including
some stunning parks. It’s become something of a mecca for families craving sun, sand and a
bit of culture. After all, with kids in tow, what more do you need for a summer holiday?
