THE CHOCOLATE GENIUS
PACO TORREBLANCA
Paco Torreblanca was already a celebrated pastry chef and
chocolate-maker when he answered the phone onemorning
in 2004 and found that he was talking to representatives
of the heir to the Spanish throne, Prince Felipe. They were
calling to ask him if he’dmake the cake for the Prince’s
wedding to the new Princess Letizia.
That cake took his fame to a new level, with Prince
Charles reportedly leading the party in a standing ovation
after tasting it. But, having been at the top of his profession
for over 25 years, with his sweet shops in Alicante, Elda
and Valencia becoming local institutions, it’s Torreblanca’s
family who help tomaintain his enthusiasm. Both his sons,
Jacob and David Torreblanca, work for the family firm.
“My family giveme the enthusiasm to carry on working,”
he says, “because they have the same passion for the work
as I do.”
