FLOWER POWER
There aren’t many
cities that can boast
having an unspoilt,
garden island at their
centre. Housing a zoo,
funfair and a handful of
museums, Djurbgården
is nonetheless
incredibly peaceful,
and the tree-lined
jogging route along
the water’s edge is
one of the prettiest in
Europe.
SOUVENIR CENTRE
Stockholm does
homewares extremely
well. Open since 1934,
iconic store Svenskt
Tenn (
5 Strandvägen
)
beautifully showcases
the Swedes’ knack
for stylish, functional
products that are
also eye-catching. To
buy trad handicrafts,
including traditional
wooden Dala horses,
the gift shop at the
open-air folk museum
Skansen (
skansen.se
)
is a great place. Pick up
a map detailing other
design hotspots from
the Stockholm Tourist
Office (
14 Vasagatan
).
FASHION FIX
Who would have thought that
a brand named after a teenage
affliction would become the
last word in cool? But Acne
(
acnestudios.com)
has gone
from cult denim purveyor to
fully fledged fashion label.
Prices at its flagship store are
around 25% cheaper than the
UK. For vintage clothes, head
to the cool area of SoFo on
Södermalm. It’s brimming with
thrift stores and galleries.
