It’s not just here that craft is on
the rise – from London to Berlin
and beyond crafty types are
embracing a do-it-yourself vibe, as a
backlash against consumerism and
a reflection of the thrifty times – but
it seems El Born was ahead of the
zeitgeist. Shops like All You Knit Is
Love (

)
have been keeping the knitters of
Barcelona happy since long before
half the world went craft crazy.
It’s a special place, which is why
in 2010, shop owners, artists and
artisans formed the Made a Mà
(Made by Hand) collective to try
and showcase its unique products.
They devised a craft-shopping
route through the backstreets and
published a map (available from
local shops). Currently there are
26 featured destinations, but
this number is growing
all the time.

alike. Fortunately,
in this city,
there is a crafty
alternative.
