HELLO ANDWELCOME ON BOARD.
We hope you are having a great summer so far.
Many of you will be returning from a well-deserved break. Hopefully, you’ll be bringing
back some wonderful memories, but, also, some unspent currency. We’ve recently
partnered with UNICEF, the children’s charity, and together we’re helping some of the
world’s most vulnerable children. You can do your part, by donating any spare change.
We also have some excellent news. We’ve just finished our first phase of testing for
an ash detection system – and it was a great success. AVOID (Airborne Volcanic Object
Imaging Detector) works like a radar that can detect volcanic ash, so aircraft can fly
around it. Hopefully it should prevent a repeat of the circumstances that saw a volcanic
eruption ground European flights for a week.
I’ll keep you posted on this, but one of our colleagues deserves special congratulation.
Our Head of Engineering, Ian Davies, has been instrumental in developing AVOID, and
last month his hard work was recognised when he won Flightglobal’s Aviator of the Year
at the Farnborough Air show. This award is given to someone who has done the most
to advance the cause of safety in aviation. Ian also collected on easyJet’s behalf the Best
Low Cost Airline Award for Europe at Farnborough, which we’re very pleased to have won.
We’ll continue with our efforts to make travel easy and more affordable, and if you
