With the eyes of the world on London
this year, its fashion industry won’t go
unnoticed with a spectacular exhibition
at the Victoria andAlbert Museum.
Ballgowns: British Glamour
Since 1950, will showcase over 60
breathtaking dresses, all specially
created for events including state
occasions, debutante balls and
Hollywood premiers. Fall in love with
grand gowns worn by royal icons the
Queen Mother and Princess Diana,
coo over the red-carpet choices of
movie stars like Sandra Bullock and
see frocks that became part of history,
including one worn by Beyoncé as
she sang at the inauguration ball of
President Obama.
The work of some of Britain’s best
design talent from the last 60 years will
feature, ranging fromNorman Hartnell,
who dressed the Queen for her nuptials
and her coronation, to Sarah Burton of
Alexander McQueen, the lady behind
Kate Middleton’s wedding dress.While
pieces from London’s new design
generation, including Erdem, Roksanda
Ilincic and Gareth Pugh,
who has designed a metallic leather
dress especially for the exhibition, will
also be shown.
And if all that glamour makes you
want to hit the dance floor, put on your
glad rags and head to Mahiki. This
Tiki-themed club offers one of the
most fun nights out in London, with a
treasure chest of cocktails made with
their very own Mahiki Coconut Rum
and a private No-Tell Motel karaoke
room, complete with dressing-up
box, double bed and hunky
