ChrisBroomwill celebratehis 20thanniversary
withAmerican thisyear. TheManagingDirector
ofFlightTraining is responsible forallpilot train-
ing at the American Airlines Flight Academy
near Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport,
whereAmerican trains 1,000 pilots per month.
“I haveabout 550great peoplewho contribute
every day to our success,” he says. “It’s a great
jobanda funplace towork.”
With coworker Bill Peterson, a Boeing 767
Fleet Training Manager, Broom organizes the
annual American Airlines Charity Golf Classic
held at Las Colinas Country Club each May.
Inspired by a coworker whowas battling can-
cer, Broom created the event four years ago
to support his colleague, build a stronger team
at work and benefit his community. “With the
help of some great sponsors and participants,
we raised$80,000 forSusanG. Komen [for the
Cure] in2012,”Broom says.
Peterson and Broom also run in the Dallas
Komen Race for the Cure, and their American
Airlines Dallas team is themost prolific fund-
raiser in theevent. “It’s themost rewardingwork
I do,”he says.
Broom also volunteers with the George
W. Bush Institute’s annual Warrior Open golf
tournament, honoring U.S. military personnel
wounded in service. He caddies for retiredMa-
rine Gunnery Sgt. Bill Rosborough, a Bronze
StarandPurpleHeartveteranwhowaswound-
ed inOperation Iraqi Freedom.
Broom supports many ongoing American
military initiativessuchasSkyBall andSnowball
Express. “Our servicemen and servicewomen
have given somuch to protect our freedoms,”
he says. “AndAmericandoesanamazing jobof
supporting them.”
