Genuine
Leather Cord: round
leather cord cut from high quality hide, that is professionally dyed,
resulting in colorful necklaces, bracelets or anklets that can be worn "as is" or
with pendants/charms. Only the highest
quality commercial lead-free dyes are used, and there
are NO hidden "fused seams" like with most
leather cord (which means no "surprise breakage"). This cord comes from a manufacturer based in the U.S.A.! This
cord is NOT to be confused with the low quality cord that is being exported from India
using cheap low grade hide, child labor and (often) dyes with a high
lead content.
- Available in 1.5 mm, 2 mm and 3 mm diameters.
- All 50 colors shown are currently stocked in the 2 mm size. Only select colors are stocked in the 1.5 mm and 3 mm sizes. Special Orders are availalbe for the other colors in those sizes (order minimums may apply).
- Standard
Colors: The coloring process
for this cord style involves coating the cord with dye,
heat setting it, repeating the coating/setting process, and then applying
a finish coat. This process yields cord that is semi-glossy,
although some colors may appear shinier than others.
- "Metallic" Colors: The coloring process
for this cord style is identical to the Standard Colors. Please note that the dye itself is Metallic; this is NOT something extra added to the cord later, so there is NO danger of "rub-off."
- "Natural
Dyed" Colors: The coloring process
for this cord style involves dipping the cord in dye (so that the cord absorbs it, rather than being coated with it), then
heat setting it to make the color permanent. This process often allows some of the natural tone variations of the hide to show through
the dye color, yielding cord that is truly unique from piece to piece. "Natural Dyed" colors usually do NOT appear as
glossy as the standard coated cords, so the "look"
they provide is more earthy and natural. (Exact look varies by cord size, color, dye lot and production run.)
- The color "NATURAL" is NOT dyed at all, so it is truly natural
- The exact shade may vary due to differences in monitor types/settings and between dye lots/production runs.
- Exact texture, flexibility/rigidity, etc. varies by color, size and production run.
The following photos show samples of various aspects of the Leather Cord, including what a completed single-strand necklace looks like, how the different size compare to each other (and to the edge of a penny), and the 50 colors that I currently offer. NOTE: many colors are shown more than once to faciliate multiple comparisons. (Metal components are availalbe in Silver Tone, Gold Tone and Sterling Silver; prices may vary.)
