Donor Egg IVF is a highly successful treatment widely used for patients who no longer have high quality eggs within their ovaries. Children conceived with the help of Donor Egg IVF are genetically linked to the male partner and the egg donor, but the female partner is the one who becomes pregnant, nourishes the baby throughout the pregnancy and experiences the childbirth.
Your egg donor can be someone blood related to you (female partner) to preserve the genetic link, or you could choose a donor from one of the many egg donor agencies. Once your Donor Egg IVF treatment at Bay IVF Center is completed (approximately 6-8 weeks into your pregnancy), the pregnancy becomes indistinguishable from a conception through intercourse, and your obstetrical care should be no different than if you conceived without any treatment. Once you select your egg donor, she will become a patient at our Center and will be medically and genetically screened by us. Seven days before the estimated onset of her next menstrual period, Lupron injections begin.
After approximately seven days of taking Lupron, the donor will start her menstrual period. Under ultrasound guidance, the tip of a thin needle is passed through the top of the vagina into the cul-de-sac (a space behind the uterus).
If the male partner has never caused a pregnancy, or if your test results indicate a possibility of significant male infertility, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is performed. A normally fertilized egg (zygote) will show two pronuclei representing the genetic material from the egg and sperm. The following day, embryos should divide into 4 cells, the day after, 8 cells, and by the fifth to seventh day after the egg retrieval, the embryos should reach the blastocyst stage (80 or more cells). Assisted Hatching is a laboratory procedure used to create a "weak spot" in the egg shell of an embryo. This picture shows an embryo after assisted embryo hatching with an opening breeching the egg shell at 12 oA?clock position. Seven days before the estimated onset of the next menstrual period, Lupron injections begin. The embryo transfer is performed two, three, or five days after the egg retrieval depending on the number and development of your embryos. This probability of success is one of the factors determining the number of embryos to transfer. Just prior to the embryo transfer, the embryos are placed into the tip of a very thin embryo transfer catheter.
After the embryo transfer, the endometrial lining gently holds the embryos within the top of the uterus.
Supplementation of estrogen and progesterone must continue until the placenta produces enough of its own estrogen and progesterone to sustain the pregnancy.

Education, Careers and InfoEverything you need to know about Ultrasound Technicians and Sonography. There is absolutely no evidence of any kind that ultrasound can do any harm to a person or baby.  Even so extra care is taken with obstetric ultrasound machines, such as limiting their power output, this is done on a “just in case” basis to make sure both mother and child are given the best possible treatment. It is probably best to say here that the dates and times below are generalizations based on “normal” experiences. Around the 5 week period following conception is when a baby’s heart is formed enough that it starts to beat. Although it is not the wish of every parent, there is an increasing desire among parents to discover the sex of their child before the actual birth. 3D and 4D ultrasound is a recent innovation that is loved by sonographers and parents alike. The earliest you can undergo a 3D ultrasound is 17 weeks if you follow the recommended advice. If you are after really nice, high quality baby ultrasound pictures then you should try to arrange for an appointment between 24-32 weeks, ideally within the 26-28 week period.
Just to round it off and because we all love a good baby photo, below is a collection of baby ultrasound pictures both 2D and 3D. If you enjoyed any of these pictures or found parts of this article useful please like us on Facebook, Google +1 us, Tweet, Digg and any other networks you are part of!
While we go to every effort to make sure that the information on this website is well researched and accurate. The probability of a successful outcome depends primarily on the fertility potential of the egg donor, and you should expect over 50% probability of a successful outcome with a highly fertile egg donor.

Lupron prevents premature release of the eggs from the ovaries prior to the egg retrieval procedure and decreases the level of male hormones (beneficial for egg quality).
Shortly after the onset of the period, follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) injections will begin. The procedure only takes a few minutes, and we use very comfortable conscious sedation for analgesia. The ovaries are located near the bottom of the cul-de-sac allowing the tip of the aspirating needle to enter the ovarian follicles and aspirate the follicular fluid from them. The eggs are identified under the microscope and placed in petri dishes filled with culture medium. The highest quality sperm are extracted from the semen and combined with the eggs six hours after the egg retrieval.
The fertilized eggs are transferred into a growth medium and continue to be cultured in our laboratory. For selected embryos, this increases the likelihood of the embryo being able to hatch out of its egg shell, implant, and result in a baby. The development of the uterine lining must be accurately synchronized with the development of the embryos. They are used to suppress the recipient mother’s ovarian function and to begin the process of synchronization. Within one to three weeks of the onset of the period, you will begin taking estrogen in the form of skin patches. The gamete embryologists assess the embryos prior to the embryo transfer to determine their likelihood of implantation.
The catheter is then passed through the cervical canal to within 15 mm of the top of the uterine cavity, and the embryos are gently released. Polansky will precisely place your embryo(s) within the endometrial cavity without the need to rely on ultrasound imaging avoiding the interference of an ultrasound transducer.
Once fully hatched, it will stay in the uterus unattached for one to two days and then implant. If the pregnancy test is positive, an ultrasound examination is scheduled two weeks later to visualize the implantation site and to look for a heartbeat within the embryo.
These have many uses, not only are they for medical purposes such as diagnosing abnormalities and keeping track of fetal growth, it also has massive benefits for the mother to be. Ultrasound works by sending out sound waves which operate at a higher frequency than that of human hearing (about 20,000 hertz).
Every person and every pregnancy is unique, just because the times below are listed does not mean that if yours does not follow them exactly there is anything wrong. The first time a mother hears her baby’s heart beat can be a truly emotional and motivating experience, many look forward to this ultrasound scan and the resulting baby pictures. At this point in time however, it is far too weak to produce sound waves of significant enough strength to be detected, even after being magnified via medical equipment.
The advantages of this are increased time to plan and build ready for the “big day”, while also allowing thought about the name of the baby without having to decide on two different names.
Not only does it allow clearer more detailed images, but allows parents to really see their child without having to have the picture explained, the image looks like a “real” baby. Although you could theoretically have this procedure earlier, 17 weeks is the desirable minimum due to possible negative exposure effects it can have on the mother. The reason for this is that at this time the baby is still small enough to get a great baby image, and is still in the correct position in order to obtain it. For a later article we will include a gallery of ultrasound images that show pregnancy week by week to further demonstrate the developmental stages of fetal growth. We really get a kick out of knowing we helped someone, so please make our day, like us today!
Over the years, we have streamlined and simplified the process of Donor Egg IVF to minimize interference with your lifestyle.
This process of in vitro fertilizationA takes place over several hours during the evening after the egg retrieval.
This can significantly increase the probability of normal fertilization for selected patients. This estrogen and progesterone secretion by the ovaries would interfere with the development of the endometrial lining. The progress of the development of your uterine lining is monitored with ultrasound and your blood level of estrogen.

The embryo transfer usually takes only a few seconds to complete, and no resting is required afterwards.
Once a heartbeat is seen, there is a 95% probability that the pregnancy will continue to a baby. Once all medications are discontinued, you will be referred to your OB doctor for the remainder of your obstetrical care. Ultrasound scans are often approached with enthusiasm and excitement by the parents, as it contains many baby lifetime firsts. The sonographer uses a small hand held device called a transducer, which sends out and receives the ultrasound waves. The first time there is a possible chance to hear the heartbeat is at 8 or 9 weeks, during this period it begins to be possible to detect the heartbeat via ultrasound; however it is common at this early stage to find that the heartbeat is either faint or inconsistent. Although it is theoretically possible to determine the sex of a baby at 12 weeks, it is not recommended nor would it be particularly accurate at this early stage.
Besides the obvious medical benefits of clearer imaging, there are also real advantages for the parents including improved bonding between mother and child.
The clarity of this imaging technique is astounding, which can also count against it early on in fetal development. After the 32 week period there is an increasing chance that the baby will have descended into the pelvis, after this happens it is nigh on impossible to achieve the level of detail that a mother desires.
A cycle of Donor Egg IVF treatment can take as little as two months and only requires 3 to 4 brief visits to the Clinic. This allows the eggs and embryos (fertilized eggs) to develop in our laboratory environment at the same rate as inside the Fallopian tubes.
It is already possible to distinguish the baby's head and body and to see the cardiac activity.
Whether it is the first time a mother hears her child’s heartbeat, the first time she sees its face or even the day she discovers the baby’s gender.
These sound waves bounce off of the internal structures of a body, and produce echoes which are picked up by the transducer. Below you will find an ultrasound video featuring a 12 week old baby, it shows off various angles in 2D ultrasound including descriptive notations and heartbeat audio! By 12 weeks old development of the heart has advanced significantly and an ultrasound scan should be able to readily detect the heartbeat. In fact hospitals regularly refuse to determine the sex of a child until the 20 week period, this is due to the fact that by this time it is relatively easy and reliable to find out what the sex is and they do not wish to waste resources unless there is a medical reason to do so. The reason for this is that if the mother sees her baby too early in a 3D environment it can actually harm the bond between them as the baby can seem alien or not like a “real” baby. Women who do not have spontaneous menstrual periods typically do not have to take the Lupron injections. This article is aimed at 2 groups of people, firstly parents who are looking to find out more information about the ultrasound they are about to receive, details on what happens during the different stages of development and what you can expect to see at your ultrasound depending on how many weeks pregnant you are at the time of your scheduled appointment.
The ultrasound machine can then process the time it took for this echo to return, and from that work out the distance travelled; it then combines all of these signals and distances into a single image or sonogram. To fill the niche that this leaves of parents that wish to know their baby’s gender but do not wish to wait until the 20 week period, 3D ultrasound centers have been created.
There are two main questions I have come across from expectant mothers who are looking for information about 3D ultrasound. After 17 weeks however, the baby has developed enough to be recognizable, and therefor produce the images all mothers dream about showing around at work. This can also be useful if you are looking forward to a particular “first” and want to find out when this can happen. These centers have roughly a 50% accuracy rate at 15 weeks although the reliability of any judgment this early in development is questionable, however by 16 weeks this has risen dramatically to a 99% reliability and accuracy rating.
It will also be beneficial for ultrasound technicians who are interested in specializing in obstetric ultrasound as it gives a basic overview of the different stages of development you will be facing during training.
