The topic of working out during pregnancy is somewhat complex.  Almost every doctor will tell you that if you were in great shape and worked out regularly before you got pregnant, there is nothing wrong with continuing to workout during your pregnancy.  The idea of working out itself is not the complex part however, it’s what do you do and how long do you do it? Weights are nothing more than 5lb-10lb dumbbells and a whole lot of body weight exercises.  You are carrying more body weight than you probably ever have at this point, so use that to your advantage. I’m sure there will come a point in the next few months where I won’t be able to do nearly as much as I am now, but until that day comes, I’ll take advantage of my energy and ability now.
Some of my favorite pregnancy workouts were from Sara Haley’s Expecting More DVD and lots of prenatal yoga.
And while I say embrace it,  I don't mean, use this as an excuse to eat your pregnancy away and be inactive.

My goal is to be as fit as I can now because in two months I won’t have as much time to dedicate to exercise. I have been just so physically exhausted and I felt like a bit of a failure that I couldn’t keep up with myself.


With my first pregnancy I only gained 20 lbs and I was 2 lbs less than pre pregnancy weight within a month of delivery. I have been lucky to have no complications and although I got sick plenty first trimester, it was always only right after I ate so it never interfered with my workouts.
