Welcome to the ‘not that magical’ middle trimester!  I finished my last blog excited to be reaching this point, and while I am still really excited about the end result to come, I’m not overly ecstatic about the process in between!  I love the Chinese proverb that says ‘the journey is the reward’ so I really am doing whatever I can to feel inspired along the way! Not a lot has changed symptom-wise – I still have hiccups, a sore stomach a lot of the time, a bit of gas here and there, and a bit of pain in my lower back.  All symptoms of a normal, healthy pregnancy I’m told – so no worries! I did not think my stomach would get in the way at all, and certainly not so soon, so it’s interesting thinking up ways of doing things differently.  Bending forward or squatting down is best done in a wide stance, lying on my stomach is now a ‘no-go’, and even getting out of the car requires an adjustment in technique.  It will be interesting to see how I go when my stomach is twice the size it is now!
I haven’t really upped the exercise since my last blog but I have maintained my morning yoga 4-5 x per week and continued with 2 other exercise sessions during the week.  This has either been a pump class, a walk (including a few days of easy walking along the Queen Charlotte track in the Marlborough Sounds), or a yoga class.  I did go for one swim but I was busting out of my bikini top so badly that I thought “this cannot happen again until I have a new swimsuit!”  By the way, pump is soooo hard at the moment, even with teeny tiny weights – bit of adjustment going on there! I’m halfway through a book on “Mindful Birthing”, which is also great and contains many useful techniques, not just for pregnancy and childbirth, but for dealing with life itself!  All of these books follow similar philosophies of using things like yoga and meditation to facilitate a low stress pregnancy and birth, and focus on the natural processes that they are.  The tummy talk magazine also has some fantastic, positive birth stories.
