Matt Hutton, program chair of the Woodworking & Furniture Design program at MECA, will give a lecture at 3pm on December 7 in the Institute of Contemporary Art at Maine College of Art. Hutton earned his BFA in Woodworking and Furniture Design at the Herron School of Art in Indianapolis, Indiana and an MFA from San Diego State University. Woodworking & Furniture Design students will work with faculty member Matt Hutton during the month of March to prepare a booth for Craftboston. At MECA, you’ll quickly move beyond basic woodworking skills into designing and crafting complete projects. This exhibition will be held at Rose Contemporary in Portland, Maine in conjunction with the 2012 Furniture Society Conference, hosted by Maine College of Art.
Matt was also recently awarded the Artist Award from the Society of Arts & Crafts and the Searchlight Award from the American Craft Council. Presented annually by the Society of Arts and Crafts, this event features 200 contemporary craft artists.

On his experience at Maine College of Art Kibler says “MECA has been a 110% change in my life. The Shakers, in a tradition of simplicity and functionality, contributed to the style, in fact, the very grain of the state and the last of these communities in the country still calls Maine home.
The event is held each spring at Seaport World Trade Center in Boston and features work by leading artists in the field. Craftboston brings together the finest professional artists working in craft today, emerging artists from leading schools and universities, international artists, book sellers, non-profit craft organizations and educational lectures. The knowledge and connections you make here will prepare you for a career in wood craftsmanship—part of the next generation of talented New England-trained artists.
