Some folks collect autographed golf balls, so they could display them there, but most commonly these are used to display golf balls as a "raod map". Most courses sell golf balls with their logo imprinted - people collect these to remind them of courses they've visited and played. One would carry the bag and the other one would be down the fairway to spot the ball landing. This is a golf ball display case I made out of honduras mahogany, with figured mahogany panels in the back.

The case is mounted using a french cleat system and the case part of the cleat is mortised into the case sides. As golfers travel around and play beautiful and famous golf courses several of them will collect club logo balls. If your ball didn't quite land on the fairway the other caddie who was barefoot, with the most dexterous toes would invariably find your ball perched on a tee!!
This case will hold 64 golf balls and is mounted securely to the wall with a French cleat system.

The trim along the top is optional but does add a nice touch especially if you can find a favorite golf log or equipment manufacturer that the golfer like.
