November 18, 2013 by Spencer and Amanda 10 Comments Towards the end of the summer, I got an idea to build a cedar picnic table in my head and could not get it out! We built this cedar picnic table as part of a series and you can find how to build and finish each part of the table in separate posts on our blog.
Sometimes we are compensated to provide opinions on products, services, websites and various other topics.
It was one of those “we have to build this right now or I just might die” kind of projects.
A few of our family and friends have seen the table and each person has said something about how much they love it and how they wish we would build them one!
It is a little more pricey because we went with Cedar because it holds up to the elements and bugs much better than regular ole’ 2×4’s. We choose to do benches for three reasons: they are easy to build, they are easy to store and you can fit lots of little kids on them!  We made our benches slightly smaller than the table so we can store them underneath when not in use.

I will also give you a cut list so you will know exactly what you need to purchase to build one. We are Spencer and Amanda, a DIY husband and Wife team, sharing projects we build and create together for our home. I had forgotten to update the post with each link so I went ahead and added them to this post so you can find each one. I applied premixed sealer and stain in the cold and it went on blotchy, so off it came (never sanded so much in my life!). Even though we receive compensation for our posts or advertisements, we always give our honest opinions and experiences on those topics or products. I ran my idea by Spencer and he was totally on board so we loaded up the kids and headed to Home Depot for supplies. Since buying our home in 2007 we have had the saying that Spencer builds it and makes it work and Amanda makes it look good.

Take each post one step at a time and your husband will totally be able to build your own!! Frustrated, I grabbed every can of stain I had from older projects and went all out with Epifanes varnish. It took us a couple hours during a couple afternoons to complete the project and we had a great time building it and staining it together. If they know anything about Spencer then they know that we built it – but most people are still amazed!
