AboutThe Small Trailer Enthusiast is a home for news on small travel trailers, typically 20' or less. A natural disaster, an economic collapse, an unexpected harsh winter — for every person, there’s that moment when they discover that the world and everything they hold dear can be taken away. In case you missed it, our first web-spin-off show, Selling Survival, just released its 15th and final episode. On the latest episode of Selling Survival, Brooklyn is catching up with Doomsday Preppers veteran Snake Blocker. Tonight on Doomsday Preppers: The Fight Ahead, we profile two unique individuals who fear the end of the world is fast approaching. I’m going to tell you a true story, but to protect my friend’s privacy and OPSEC—as all good preppers should do—I’m going to remain as anonymous as possible. In my opinion, any piece of land outside of the city has the potential for a good bug-out location.
As silly as the National Geographic show Doomsday Preppers can get, there is something to say for the ratings it gives each prepper at the end of each segment.
The recommended amount of water per person per day is one gallon for drinking, basic personal hygiene and basic food prep. A regular supply of non-perishable food items are stored at the property year round; however, there is not much variety or enough.
Very few people know the actual location to the property and it is not visible from any road.
The property sits less than a full gas tank away from the city—close enough to get out quickly, but far enough to survive the a nuclear bomb blast in the middle of the city.
For extra storage space, there are two fully enclosed and lockable garages, and three covered storage buildings for equipment.
A propane tank heats the water and lights the stove, but the heat and air conditioner are electricity-powered.
I found an old non-working generator in one of the out buildings that if working would be an excellent back-up power source before the installation of solar panels. For firearms and ammunition, my friend is doing just fine and that is all I have to say about that.
As far as other security goes, my friend needs to add just a few extra measures for some added protection. When I took the Doomsday Preppers quiz on the National Geographic website on my friends behalf, based on only the observations I made, the property as it is right now has the chance for those staying there to survive for four to eight months. The mission of Cheaper Than Dirt!'s blog, "The Shooter's Log," is to provide information-not opinions-to our customers and the shooting community. God Bless these individuals who many of us believe will be our enemies if SHTF, who are currently devoting, in their spare time just how to handle these adverse situations which we call SHTF.

Ensuring the safety of your valuables is easy when you have an electronic safe in your humble abode.
Even if you don’t have the most expensive safe, you will experience utmost peace of mind and security if you keep it hidden. While a small safe can be easily hidden behind a washing machine, piano, closet, bed, bookcase and other usual furniture and appliances, you need to be extra imaginative if you have a larger one. Aside from factoring in the dimensions and weight of the safe, you also need to be mindful of things that could be hidden in an existing slab such as your home’s plumbing.
No need to bring a tarp or ground cover, as the tent has its own waterproof canvas floor and sidewall protecting you, your cot and sleeping bag from moisture.
Included with the cot tent are the two poles, four steel ground stakes and an OD green carrying bag with handles. The tent measures 72-inches long—fitting a 6-foot tall person fully stretched—30-inches wide and 44-inches tall.
For scouts, summer camp, hikers, backpackers, survivalists and preppers, campers or your kids who want to camp in the backyard, this cot tent is a seriously cool sleeping arrangement for one. Tarps are an essential piece of camping and survival equipment with an exhaustive list of uses. These brand new, still-in-the-original-wrapper OD green cotton bags were used in field hospitals during the Vietnam War.
To me, these patient personal effects bags are one of the more meaningful surplus items we have had in stock in awhile.

Introduced to shooting at young age by her older brother, Suzanne Wiley took to the shooting sports and developed a deep love for it over the years.
The Condor bladder holds 2.5 liters of water and includes a large bite valve with lid as well as a shut-off switch. Here you will find info on new models, industry news relating to small trailers, and any other stories I think you might find interesting. Snake has a host of Apache defense products, and he’s about to give Brooklyn a quick lesson in knife fighting as a self-defense skill. We decided to celebrate by creating a  Spotify playlist based off suggestions from our Facebook fans. What started out as a dream for land outside of the city for a nice get-away to keep animals and a shooting range turned into the perfect place to start a bug-out plan in motion. Any deer lease, lake property, land, or farm—with time, patience and a little manpower—converts into a secure location to keep you and yours safe during an economic collapse, chaos and violence in the city, major natural disaster, or flu outbreak. It was a full-time homestead for a large family, so all the comforts of home are already there.
Based on the same rating system on how well each prepper has planned for water, food, shelter, security, and X-Factor, I’ve rated my friend’s place for each category as an example for what makes a good bug-out location, as well as tips for how to improve it. I found no cans of food, only boxed non-perishables that require hot water, milk and butter to prepare. There is little traffic getting out there and alternative routes exist in case roads became congested. This saves money for necessary and needed items and many of the old farm tools would work as makeshift weapons. It is easy to defend, has the ability to become self-sufficient and has ample storage to stock supplies.
From what I understand many of these good people will honestly be among the most scrutinized sector of the population, much more-so than you, or I!!
Their knowledge is extremely valuable and teach the most efficient ways in which is sooo different than most of believe regarding SHTF and Bug Out set ups and locations. They can only take what you have ready to harvest at the moment they arrive, so you just continue on and you can make it. I laughed and cried while reading through the posts, but most of all I’ve learned a great deal from those of you who have been doing this for a while. Join more than 1.4 million shooters, hunters, archers, outdoorsmen, survivalists and preppers now! However, the same can’t be said if you just leave your safe out in the open for burglars to see.
If the safe is not more than 16 inches square and less than 4 inches deep, installing it into a wall is a feasible solution. When the safe is finally installed, cover it with a wall decoration, such as a painting, wall clock, bookshelf or family portrait. A smaller safe is easier to fit into your flooring, as it can simply be placed between joists. Once everything has been taken care of, the safe can be covered with removable false flooring. No matter what the tent manufacturers tell you, I have yet to find a “four season” tent that actually makes sleeping comfortable in 100-degree weather.
With the sealed seams and 44-inch long zippered entry, the mosquito cot tent ensures you stay bug-free all night. On top of the tent is a small, hanging pouch for personal items such as eyeglasses or your cell phone. For under $20, you can afford to buy one for every member of the family—especially if spending a night under the stars.
These are brand new, still-in-the-original-wrapper OD green cotton bags—field hospitals used similar bags during the Vietnam War.
Today, she enjoys plinking with her S&W M&P 15-22, loves revolvers, the 1911, short-barreled AR-15s, and shooting full auto when she gets the chance.
He believes a “wiper” (a code that instructs a computer system to self-destruct) will take out the country’s telecommunications systems.
With a few additions and tweaks, this bug-out location not only provides safety and security, but comfort as well for months if need be to ride out a SHTF storm. Additionally, there is a bunkhouse with a kitchen, bathroom, and large bedroom and one more building with a bedroom, sink and toilet.
However, with the right tools, the right volunteers and promise of plenty of free beer—building a perimeter fence close to the house wouldn’t take much.
When the weather is perfect this makes for a cool, breezy and comfortable dwelling, however also easy to break into.

As with anything, it needs a few improvements, but as it is, I wouldn’t complain if I have to bug out there. They probably will be too lazy to catch your fish and clean them and harvest your crops anyhow. Trying to prep can be an overwhelming experience for a lot of single moms out there, but this is very helpful and informative.
We reserve the right to edit as appropriate, delete profane, harassing, abusive and spam comments or posts, and block repeat offenders. On the other hand, cutting a concrete slab to make room for your safe requires certain tools such as a jackhammer. A bigger one would need to be framed into the floor, which would require the services of an engineer or some tradesmen – unless you are qualified to handle the construction on your own. Personally, I am happy to see our expert team of military surplus buyers has found lots of cool inventory to purchase.
There are 14 grommets all the way around this British military surplus lightweight nylon tarp. When admitted to a field hospital, staff placed an injured soldier’s personal belongings such as wedding rings, watches, glasses or letters in these bags. Suzanne specializes in writing for the female shooter, beginner shooter, and the modern-day prepper.
I was stationed in ‘Ol Miss for several years and on a yourg servicemans budget, when we went camping- it was with our combat gear, on old beat up bikes- but God what a time we had!
In the kitchen pantry I found collapsible water containers, a small water filtration system and emergency water treatment tablets. The property has more than enough room where they could hold at least a year’s supply of food storage. All together, there are five bedrooms, four toilets, three showers, two bathtubs, and six sinks.
My friend should work on storing wood or other fortifiable material, hammer and nails so they can quickly reinforce windows and doors.
Since my friend isn’t a coffee drinker, there was enough for one cup of morning Joe for myself, but not many others.
I always search through surplus stuff for my camping and survival supplies before buying new. All four corners have a one-inch nylon loop stitched on the underside to thread cording to tie down the tarp or to secure it using tent stakes. The M65 has a five-point rubber, fully adjustable head harness that tightens securely around your head for a snug and airtight fit.
For about 10 bucks, you get three of these Italian military surplus sewing kits complete with original military clothing buttons, scissors and a pouch. However, they have started a small garden and my friend is researching the best livestock to keep on the property. That is plenty of room for extended family members, friends or partners to all bug-out together comfortably.
In my friend’s defense, they do plan to add solar panels to the roof of the main house—eventually having the capability to go completely off grid. This may be a personal preference, but since coffee stores, I’d keep a large can in the kitchen.
First, surplus is usually dirt-cheap and second, military surplus items are extremely durable, collectable and highly functional—besides looking cool. Needles, thread, safety pins and small scissors offer a quick-repair or patch kit, while sewers, reenactors and current military personal can replace buttons, hem and fix split seams with OD green or white thread. Further, if push came to shove deer, squirrels and rabbits spotted on game cameras roam the property in abundance. I went through our warehouse and picked my favorite items—all under $20—to give you a sneak peek of what’s to come in August. The surplus sewing supplies come packed in a roll-up pouch with an internal zippered pocket to make sure you don’t lose any small pieces. Measuring 12 inches tall and 15 inches wide, these cloth bags make perfect ammo bags, utility pouches, or toiletry bags for campers, Scouts or travelers.
