Backcountry Survival are offering the Survival Group Leader and Survival Instructor Award training to instructors, leaders and outdoor professionals who wish to deliver survival sessions to their groups within non-remote settings and multiple environments respectively.  The courses are 3 and 5 days training respectivly, followed by a consolidation period and a final assessment. The training courses will run from the 29th April – 1st of May and include two nights Bivouac.
The Australian Army Cadets national Adventure Training Award 2012 was completed at the Majura Military Training Area near Canberra on 17 April.
Cadets conduct a water crossing activity at the 2012 Adventure Training Award at Majura Military Training Area near Canberra. During the week the teenage cadets were tested on their navigation, field engineering and survival skills, physical and mental endurance, and their teamwork abilities, initiative and leadership. Our national footprint grew as we launched programmes in the South West and consolidated our partnerships in the North. We were delighted that financial education became compulsory for state schools in England, entering the National Curriculum in September 2014.
Together with peer organisations, we formed the Youth Financial Capability Group to collectively push for effective, relevant and unbiased financial education. With help from our generous supporters, MyBnk’s Impact Centre was launched to help us ensure and improve ‘what works’ through training, quality control, evaluation and programme development. The SGL focuses on safety and group management and is underpinned by the PLAN-M Survival model. 96 Army Cadets and 10 Air Force Cadets successfully completed the challenging week-long activity and were awarded the Adventure Training Award badge. The cadets marched an average of 70 kilometres during the week and completed two activities each day.
Training manuals are particularly useful in the following situations: Trainees can use the manuals for reviewing the subject after training. Internationally, via Consultation and Collaboration projects, MyBnk trained organisations from Wales, Italy and Brunei, successfully tested in-country training in Uganda, and helped adapt our programmes to local needs. We mapped our programmes to the new criteria months before statutory introduction and the results are very promising. We have formed a Teacher Advisory Panel and contributed to the young person strand of the Money Advice Service’s UK Financial Capability strategy. Money Works, our ‘survival money management’ programme for those living independently, was extended, accredited and improved. We also piloted a sporty version of Money Twist for delivery outside classrooms, and tested a more in-depth enterprise project with young adults. Hours delivered will grow faster than the number of young people reached, as we target the more vulnerable through Money Works. We thank our team, partners, teachers, youth workers, funders and of course, the young people who work with us, for making this a breakthrough year for financial and enterprise education.

Most of the cadets participating in the ATA had spent several years in the Army Cadets or Air Force Cadets, learning the skills they would use during the week.
It lets the trainee concentrate on and partake in the training during the training session instead of taking detailed notes. Enterprise delivery will grow significantly and content will deepen as we continue to embed employability.
The ATA is the toughest competition the cadets will face during their time in the youth development organisation. Demand soared for Money Twist, our flagship schools programme, which aims to wow young people about money and more than meets the new curriculum requirements. We will use the lessons learnt from Sporty Money Twist and, potentially, cater for younger children and their parents.
Despite, or perhaps because of, the hard physical nature of the ATA, the activity was the highlight of their young lives. Cadet Warrant Officer Class Two, 17-year old Paul Inkratas from Hornsby, Sydney said of his experience, “You only live once. 16-year old Cadet Sergeant Mai Trakulsri from Norfolk Island said simply, “Life is not fun if it is easy”.
The cadets’ spirits were boosted by visits from several high ranking Army officers during the activity, a real thrill for young Australians with an interest in the armed services. The Chief of Army, Deputy Chief of Army and Army Headquarters Chief of Staff, Brigadier Andrew Bottrell, were pleased to speak with the cadets and congratulate them on their accomplishments. The Deputy Commander Australian Army Cadets Silver Commendation for runner up was given to Cadet Sergeant Callum Moses (16-years of age), also from 226 Army Cadet Unit (Normanhurst), New South Wales. This year a total of 100 Australian Army Cadets and ten Australian Air Force Cadets from across the country took part in the Adventure Training Award.

Designing the manual[edit]A well designed training manual, that is kept up to date, can become a valuable source of information to the organization. As preparation for the training session give a list of key points or a summary of what is going to be covered at the start of each chapter.
What are the key elements of a Training Manual[edit]The Training Manual may contain the following elements. A Cover page with plain or graphic with Title clearly written.A Blank page after the cover page. An Introduction page on What- How- Who - "What the Manual is about", "How to use the Manual" & "For whom the Manual is meant"A Navigational Tips page with visually catchy icons which will be used throughout the manual.

Be consistent in the use of terminology, tone and style of writing.Long sentences and paragraphs can be confusing. Include illustrations (graphs, flow charts, tables, pictures, screen displays, examples of finished tasks) where appropriate to clarify concepts and enhance understanding.It also adds visual interest.
Write a detailed table of contents that include chapter headings as well as the next level of subheadings. A good index makes the manual usable as a reference work for future use.Check spelling and grammar. The title page, table of contents, a glossary of terms (if used) and the index are prepared last. A copyright notice can be included, as well as acknowledgement of contributors if appropriate. Presentation[edit]An attractive appearance and ease of use can motivate the trainees to use the manual and thus reinforce learning.Good page layout increase readability and make the information more accessible. Contrast: Creating contrast between sections visually organise the page, leading the eye in a logical flow from one section to the next.
