As well as being a RYA Affiliated Club, Marconi Sailing Club is an approved RYA Training Centre.
The club has its own pontoon and access to the water at all states of tide making it an ideal location for power boat training.
The club training room is a useful place to observe training videos or presentations however we try to spend as much time as possible in the boats out on the water. The aim of the Level 2 course is to teach boat handling and seamanship in power boats, and the course is a good route for anyone requiring a power boat ICC (International Certificate of Competence) for craft up to 10 meters. Passing this course is a pre-requisite for anyone wishing to take an RYA safety boat course.
The RYA First-Aid one-day course covers all the usual first aid subjects, but from a boating perspective. More confident in sailing skills and techniques, and ready to progress onto the advanced modules.
Launching and recovering the boat in different circumstances, stopping, reducing sail, recovering a man overboard, anchoring. Preparing and planning for a day cruise, pilotage and decision making including adverse conditions. This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. This is a great facility for our members and we are very proud to be an approved RYA Training Centre. Marconi Sailing Club is based on the River Blackwater in Essex and offers family friendly sailing for all ages at all states of tide.
Thames Boat Training is based at Lindon Lewis Marine in West London's premier Shepperton Marina. It is run by Paul Kelly who is an RYA Yachtmaster, Inland Waterways and VHF Radio instructor and assessor, with over 30 years experience of off shore and inland waterways sailing.
