At the market you’ll find plenty of fresh ideas for lunchboxes: nutrient rich, locally grown and produced real whole foods, free from additives, preservatives and unnecessary packaging, and a much healthier choice than all of those processed snack foods. Downy mildew caused by Pseudoperonospora cubensis is one of the most important foliar diseases of cucurbits. Symptoms of Downy mildew are confined to the leaves and their appearance varies widely among cucurbit species. Pseudoperonospora cubensis infects only members of the cucurbit family and is an obligate parasite. The main means of control are fungicide applications, the use of resistant cultivars, and cultural practices. Apply broad-spectrum protective fungicides before detection and systemic narrow-spectrum fungicides when downy mildew occurs early in crop production.

The Vancouver Island Farms & Food Map is a searchable guide to over 250 farms in and around Victoria and Vancouver Island. The map is a resource for residents and tourists who want to explore Vancouver Island farms, and for chefs who want to source food locally.
The map also helps users locate farm stands, CSA box programs, wineries, and farms that welcome visitors for tours, festivals, or overnight stays. In addition to the interactive Vancouver Island Farms & Food Map, the site features articles, profiles, multimedia, and recipes. They have been hired under the Rising Star Internship program sponsored by Iowa State University Extension and Outreach in partnership with the Colleges of Design and Human Sciences.

They can be found performing food demonstrations at the Crossroads Mall Farmers Market in Fort Dodge or the Clarion Farmers Market on select Wednesdays through July. According to United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) statistics, these grassroots venues have increased in number by over 60% since 2009 to more than 8,500 today. It occurs worldwide where conditions of temperature and humidity allow its establishment and can result in major losses to cucumber, melon, squash, pumpkin, watermelon, and other cucurbits.
