The speedo cable SHOULD go to the "tailshaft" of the transfer case, on the left side, below the centerline of the output shaft.
Here's what the speedometer cable looks like for a BW 1345 transfer case and a picture showing where the speedometer cable plugs into.
I don't have a picture of a BW 1356 but it appears the speedometer cable plugs into the driver side tail shaft of the transfer case. I was wondering if there was such a product in the market to replace the old distributor cap and rotor with an electronic system in the advent they stop making caps and rotors for my truck.
These are not sissy trucks to cruise the mall with - they are real trucks meant to work hard.
You can even get a cap and rotor for a 1951 Nash at your local NAPA, where are you going to find a dealership for that?

Has anyone ever swapped output covers with internals that operate the driven gear on these transfer cases? And given the number of these engines still in use in all manner of classic cars and hot rods and not to mention the millions of light trucks still on the road, I don't see access to replacement parts going away any time soon.
Newer motors completely do away with the cam sensor by incorporating the cylinder ID into the crank sensor ring, but if some streamlining is gained there it is lost in the fact that seperate and expensive coil packs are now needed for each sparkplug, so changing all the high voltage parts on a newer motor can cost upwards of $1000 while it only cost a $100 or so to do plugs, wires, cap and rotor on the old motors.
Any help on either of these two issue--swapping covers to make the speedo work and locating a Xfer case with PTO provision? If you have any problems with the registration process or your account login, please contact us.
