Ford is finally putting out the details for the power and fuel economy for the all-new 2015 Edge.
The next-generation Ford Edge will be available with quite a growth spurt for its debut in China next year, with newly announced plans also to build and sell a three-row version exclusively in the People's Republic. UPDATE: Between the initial launch and now, Ford has decided to no longer include the Adaptive Steering system as standard equipment on Edge Sport. Reported comments and users are reviewed by Autoblog staff 24 hours a day, seven days a week to determine whether they violate Community Guideline.
The all-new Ford Edge upscale sport utility vehicle (SUV) delivers premium levels of comfort, sophisticated driver assistance features and class-leading driving dynamics to greater numbers of customers in Europe’s best-selling vehicle segment.
With a spacious and well-trimmed interior, carlike road manners, and a generous features content, the 2017 Ford Edge is a strong choice for a five-seat midsize crossover SUV.
For 2017, the Edge is available in an array of eye-catching colors, including the Electric Spice, shown in one of the spy photos here. For example, it offers more space than a conventional small crossover would, without the necessarily being a third-row juggernaut such as the likes of Ford Flex and Ford Explorer. Surprisingly, the Edge, despite its generous cargo and passenger room and its midsize footprint, still manages to feel maneuverable and tidy on the road.
The upgraded infotainment system has been upgraded and offers faster response times and a simplified user interface than the outgoing system with was rather polarizing and slower to respond. Some of the rivals you could check out include the 2017 Kia Sorento, the 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, and the recently redesigned 2017 Nissan Murano. Four trims – SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport – are offered for the midsize five-seat 2017 Ford Edge SUV. The Edge SEL further adds a rearview auto-dimming mirror, heated exterior mirror, satellite radio, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, exterior keyless entry pad, rear parking sensors, upgraded cloth upholstery, an adjustable passenger seat, an eight-way driver adjustable seat, and automatic dual-zone climate control.
The Edge Titanium trim model gets ambient interior lighting, LED taillight bar, 19” wheels, HD radio, a Sony 12-speaker audio system, an eight-way front adjustable passenger seat, noise-reducing front windows, a hands-free tailgate, and driver memory settings. Finally, the Edge Sport model comes with an aggressive rhombus-shaped exhaust outlets and a lower fascia that help the model a standout from the rest of the trims. Various options will also be offered for the individual trim models, but we will have to wait at least some few months ahead of its release date to get the exhaustive specs. Inspiration for the 2017 Ford Edge is derived from several engine options offered under the hood of the SUV. A 3.5L V6 is offered for both the Edge SEL and Titanium models, and is able to crank out 280 horsepower and 250 pounds-ft.
Finally, the Edge Sport is offered with an exclusive 2.7L turbocharged engine beneath its hood. The Edge MSRP should be expected at around $28,700, and about $40,900 for the Edge Sport 4dr SUV. Two of those vehicles, the Ford Edge and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, take slightly different approaches to satisfy mid-size crossover buyers. Both are good-looking crossovers, though we prefer the Edge for its premium, athletic aesthetic. The Santa Fe Sport is the best-looking Hyundai crossover, with a right-sized hexagonal grille and side sills that stand out in relief up and over the rear wheel wells.

The Santa Fe Sport has comfortable seats with good space, and just enough headroom for tall drivers if the optional panoramic sunroof is installed. Safety is a strength for both models, but the Santa Fe Sport is the winner here thanks to improved crash tests for 2017. A look at the numbers shows that the Edge wins in Styling and Performance, while the Santa Fe Sport gets better scores for Safety and Fuel Economy.
The 2016 Ford Edge has everything you might want in a tech-focused, stylish crossover—as long as you don't require third-row seating or a luxury badge.
Styling9The 2016 Ford Edge carries its edge from the inside, in its combination of nicely coordinated soft-touch materials and fine details. We have sent your request for price quotes on the 2016 Ford Edge and 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport to the dealers you requested. The Sport trim's 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 gets 315 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque and EPA-estimated fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined. Accounts are penalized for Community Guidelines violations and serious or repeated violations can lead to account termination. Other strengths include a plethora of high tech and luxury features, a powerful Sport model, an efficient base engine, and a sophisticated ride quality. Well, with a name that perfectly substantiates what it actually is, the new model neatly balances between segments. This is one crossover that is hard to match in any one specific area, and Ford hopes to leverage heavily on this to propel it to the top of its segment rankings. This may partly be attributed to the recent redesign Ford did on the Edge that encompassed several improvements on its suspension and body structure. Idiosyncrasies do exist, however, that keep Ford from being the decisive victor in this hotly contested segment.
Standard across except for the Edge Sport is the 2.0L four-cylinder mill rated at 245 hp and 275 lbs.
Larger and more spacious than compact crossovers, but smaller and more manageable than three-row crossovers meant for family duty, these vehicles offer versatility with sophistication and flair. Both offer front- and all-wheel drive and turbocharged 4-cylinder power, but the Hyundai also has a naturally aspirated 4-cylinder while the Ford opts for a performance variant with a twin-turbocharged V-6. The interior carries a shield of controls at its center, an undulating dash, and large knobs for select controls. With front-wheel drive, Ford's is rated at 24 mpg combined, while the Hyundai is rated at 23 mpg. Controls are simple, a configurable gauge cluster is offered, and the center stack is dominated by a large touchscreen with the new, simpler Sync 3 infotainment system.
An available 8.0-inch touchscreen commands attention and electroluminescent gauges toss in a few more subdued lumens.
It earns a Top Safety Pick+ from the IIHS and gets the top score of five stars from the government. It comes in SE, SEL, Titanium, and Sport models, with pricing that escalates quickly for top models with options. For our purposes, that puts the Edge on top, and it is the choice for those who want more power or a sportier experience.

We can't help but wonder what the model could do with a slightly improved powertrain lineup. Read more8The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport perfectly blends the automaker's SUV styling themes into a compact offering. Also, Ford has issued a corrective statement clarifying that the 2015 Edge Sport is priced at $500 more than the 2014 Sport trim, not $500 more than the 2015 base model. The result was a small crossover SUV that has sedan road-manners even with a weight that exceeds two tons. They include an underwhelming performance especially from the base model, and sluggish downshift for the automatic transmission system. The step up is a 240-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that helps this crossover hustle down the road with more confidence. Available safety features include a surround-view camera system, lane-keep assist, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. It also offers rear cross-traffic alerts, automatic parking, a glove box knee airbag, and inflatable rear safety belts.
While many of the most desirable features are reserved for the Titanium and Sport, those models border on the luxury market. Read morePerformance8No matter which engine you choose for the 2016 Edge, you'll get precise steering and great handling on par with premium-brand German crossovers.
Otherwise, just about every surface the driver is commonly interacting with has a quality finish and feel. It gets a five-star rating from the government, but an "Acceptable" rating in the IIHS's small front overlap test and only basic forward collision prevention mean it can't be named a Top Safety Pick.
