The Detroit Auto Show has announced its North American Car of the Year and the prize has gone to the Ford Fusion Hybrid. The Ford Fusion hybrid shared the top honors with another Ford vehicle, the Transit Connect, which won the award for North American Truck of the Year. The Ford Fusion hybrid is a mid-sized sedan which, like all hybrids, has gas and electric capabilities.
Detroit has a chance to show the world that they’re listening to the cries for greater fuel efficiency!
The Ford Escape, developed under the name of the U204 by the Ford Motor Company, is a compact SUV that was first sold as a 2001 model. A beautiful blue Ford Escape parked in my driveway recently.  Ready to begin a week-long test drive, it oozed appeal as the answer to our mid-size SUV search. The 2014 Ford Escape is ranked #9 in Affordable Compact SUV’s by US World Reports.  Don’t let the “compact” category fool you. If you’ve seen the TV commercials for the Escape, a big feature is the one where you have arms full of something: groceries, flea market finds, or artwork and standing at the back of the vehicle you wave your foot under the bumper.

While we are impressed by how well the new GMC Canyon turned out, it’s the all-new 2015 Ford F-150 that is the star of the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, at least as far as trucks are concerned. As for the new interior, I have a sneaking suspicion that all truck makers have colluded to offer buyers one general design direction. Despite looking like the same ol’, the exterior and interior are nevertheless modern. The company achieved this feat by incorporating high-strength steel and military-grade aluminum alloys throughout the F-150’s body. Performance and fuel economy figures have not been published, but a lighter body naturally entails the new F-150 can tow more, haul more, accelerate quicker, stop shorter and use less gas. The 2015 Ford F-150 will be available in five primary trims — XL, XLT, Lariat, Platinum and King Ranch. Ford has just released new images of their 2011 Focus at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new Focus has been developed by a worldwide team with major input from Germany, Britain and the United States.
From the initial pics it looks as though Ford have thrown their current Focus RS model in the blender with the best of Chris Bangle’s flame surfacing from BMW, smoothed the edges out a bit and voila—a new Focus! Overall, though, its cuts a striking shape and definitely stands out among its mid class rivals. Since 1998 the Focus has been acknowledged as one of the class leaders when it comes to driving duties and overall handling. Both the four-door saloon and five-door hatchback body styles of the next-generation Focus are previewed prior to their production start for Europe and North America late in 2010 and market launch early in 2011. The Ford Fusion Hybrid, the Electric Fiat 500, the Toyota FT-CH, and the Honda CR-Z hybrid are all great eco-friendly cars: let’s hope for more like them as the Auto Show continues.
The Ford Escape was developed in conjunction with Mazda and released at the same time as the Mazda Tribute.
This is a unique platform that had been based on the Mazda GF platform, which had been utilized by the famous Mazda 626 vehicle. This vehicle was unique for being seventy five percent more fuel efficient than previous models of the Ford Escape.
We found the Escape to be a roomy, well-sized vehicle capable of getting the job done, whether hauling gear or people.
I can’t speak for other Ford models but the heated seats (which crank all the way up to 5) in the Escape are perfect if you are having a “Polar Vortex” winter. Ford’s workhorse truck promises to be tougher, smarter and more capable than ever before.
In fact, aside from the bold new grille and distinctive headlights, I’d say the exterior looks like old one. Attractive as the F-150’s new cabin may be, what I see is a cross between the Chevrolet Silverado (GMC Sierra) and Toyota Tundra’s interiors, or am I seeing things? Other tech goodies include a rear view camera, trailer brake controller and a segment-first 360-degree camera system for safer maneuvering. But the biggest highlight of this F-150 is the weight reduction of up to 700 pounds over the outgoing model.
It will also be offered with a chrome appearance package, a sport appearance package and an FX4 off-road package. Production will commence later this year, with European and North American sales to commence simultaneously in early 2011. The Focus will initially be built in three plants— Saarlouis (Germany), Michigan (United States) and Chongqing (China). Initial production will be concentrated at the Saarlouis (Germany), Michigan (United States) and Chongqing (China) Assembly Plants. The first of these will be the new Ford C-MAX and Ford Grand C-MAX – unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show – for launch in Europe in the second half of 2010. The vehicle has been engineered without compromise to meet all customer and legislative requirements of the major worldwide markets.

The new Focus has an extremely modern, cockpit-style interior, with the stylish centre console wrapped around the driver and providing outstanding access to the vehicle’s major controls and display panels.
The cabin’s bold and contemporary graphics, the sculptured shape of the soft-touch instrument panel and the choice of superior trim materials all help to give occupants the feeling that they are travelling in a premium-class car. The all-new Focus plans to raise the benchmark once more, targeting class-leading driving quality that blends outstanding steering precision and road feedback with significantly improved refinement and ride control. Identical chassis and suspension architecture is being used for all markets, except for minor regional tuning differences, such as local tyre specifications. The new technologies have been designed to be simple and highly intuitive to use, while enhancing both convenience and safety for the vehicle occupants including driver connect technology, MyFord, which provides the driver with a state-of-the-art combination of controls and display screens to operate the key vehicle features.
This refinement complements the fresh new interior design and higher craftsmanship levels to create a premium feel akin to larger vehicles. Particular attention has been given to the quality of interior trim materials, and the colour matching, gaps, flushness and tolerances where one part meets another. Examples include the sound the door makes when it is closed, requiring special attention to the door structure and latch mechanism, and the design of a steering wheel, right down to the thickness of padding and size of stitching on the rim.
