Please note, to be eligible to enrol in the Certificate II Security Operations course, it is recommended that you have completed a minimum of Year 10 or equivalent level of English reading and writing. Once you have completed your Certificate II in Security Operations, this is the course that you should complete when adding the Monitoring function to your security licence. If you are interested in gaining the knowledge and practical skills to work effectively as a security control room operator, using and maintaining monitoring equipment, identifying and responding to incidents, reporting and more. For security guards who already have their licence, and only need to complete the modules to add specific functions to their licence, we also offer 1-day courses in the areas of Bodyguarding, Cash-in-Transit, and Handcuffs & Batons. On successful completion of this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attainment for the 3 units as partial completion of the Certificate III in Security Operations.
Anyone who wants to work as a security control room operator, who already has a Certificate II or III in Security Operations or a current Queensland Security Licence. On successful completion of the course, providing you are at least 18 years of age at the time of your application, you will receive a Statement of Attainment for the 2 units as partial completion of the Certificate III in Security Operations.
The fee for this 1-day course is $150 – or you can complete this as part of the full Certificate III in Security Operations. You must hold a Certificate II or III in Security Operations, we also recommend a Year 10 level (or equivalent) of English reading and writing. COURSE DURATION: The Provide First Aid course is a 5-hour practical and Theoretical class which you are required to book into and pay for before attending. Understanding of the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), including when to use and when not to use. We recommend that you renew this qualification every three (3) years from the date of issue, however; the Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that you update the CPR component of the course annually. The classroom component covers security legislation, reporting, first aid and restraint techniques. The Office of Fair Trading will charge you an additional amount for your license (approx $475.80 for a 1 year multi-function licence), and will conduct a criminal history check and fingerprinting prior to approving your application.


While it is no longer a licensing requirement to complete this course, employers may require it as it gives you the skills and knowledge that you need in order to complete the role of a Monitoring Security Officer. Through our combination of theory and practical, you will receive extensive training on the legalities, reporting, responsibilities and an overall introduction to positions in CCTV monitoring, duress alarm monitoring, intruder alarm monitoring, and more. If you already have your Certificate II in Security Operations, you will then be eligible to apply for your Security Officer (unarmed and monitoring) Licence for security work at shopping centres, patrol, and CCTV monitoring. The St John defibrillator register is a national register to record the details and location of defibrillators. Professor Mellows was the Lord Prior from 2008 to 2014 and he made a wonderful, deep and lasting contribution to St John. There are no pre-requisites for this course, which means that you don’t need Level 1 first aid or any other course qualification to enrol.
Once you enrol, you will receive all booking details and a tax receipt to your designated email address within a few minutes. According to the WorkSafe Victoria Compliance code for first aid in the workplace, this is the minimum acceptable level of training for first aid officers for workplaces.
St John encourages first aid training as these Fact Sheets are not a substitute for first aid training. RAM Training has you covered with each of these courses being carried out at a range of locations across Australia. You will also need to demonstrate in class your understanding of the theory and legislative component of security training covered in your distance education.
This course is run on the 3rd day of the full Certificate II in Security Operations course in Woolloongabba and Southport (usually a Wednesday), or the 4th day of the full Certificate III in Security Operations in Mackay (usually a Thursday). Alternatively, complete the 5-day full Certificate III in Security Operations course which covers Bodyguarding, Monitoring, Cash-in-Transit, as well as training to prepare you for supervisory or management roles.
Any criminal convictions found to be in the last 10 years will mean you are unable to obtain your security licence. Each year we deliver 1.2 million hours of voluntary community service, train 500,000 people and treat 100,000 people in Australia at public events annually.
A similar requirement is made under the New South Wales Clause 20 of the Occupational Health & Safety Regulation 2001.

If you already hold a current Queensland security licence, the Office of Fair Trading charges approximately $65 to add further functions to your licence, plus $38.40 for a criminal history check if you have not completed one in the past 3 months. This security licencing course allows you to work in major QLD cities, such as Brisbane, with a Class 1 Security Licence Queensland.
