I have been detecting some ghastly weather facing many segments of our nation, especially in the southern portion with its widespread development of hazardous tornadoes. Underground Bomb Shelter, underground survival shelter, disaster bunker, fallout shelter. Uber Shelter is an amazing concept for a portable housing unit that would help people in meeting their immediate shelter requirements created by disastrous events. 4) Amenable to infrastructure?can be used as a basic structure, but have the capabilities to upgrade and implement modern conveniences. When there is more time, funding, and personnel, phase two provides camp residents with more pleasant solutions and conveniences.
Felipe Campolina Designed A Skyscraper With Portable Housing As the space in our cities disappears little by little, a young architect named Felipe Campolina, came up with a solution, which not only is beautiful it also minimizes the impact on […]Wish Folding Stretcher Only Needs One Person to Carry After a disaster strikes, the most important mission is to rescue victims. Sandbag is still a popular flood protection device because it’s cheap, easy to use and really effective.
I am a 16 year old AS Level student studying at a school in Essex and i must say i am quite astonished by this design.
On behalf of my classmates and i, we would like to say that if someone were to go ahead and manufacture such a design, we would all hastily buy one! While the rest of us watched in horror as tens of thousands died in the tsunamis of 2004 and 2011, two Seattle aerospace designers felt compelled to build a shelter that could protect people from such devastating natural disasters. The Survival Capsules are designed as a last-resort measure, to be placed in schools, public buildings and private dwellings where occupants may be at most risk of not being able to escape a natural disaster.
However, the Survival Capsule’s most notable point of difference from its competitors is its aircraft-grade aluminium casing. Pensmore, which sits on 500 acres, has been in some stage of construction since 2007, said Todd Wiesehan, planning and zoning administrator for Christian County, adding he believes it will take another year or two to complete.
The technology is impractical if that is the maximum pace of construction; more likely, the builders are using the construction site as an enormous parallel experiment, working through the particulars of how to improve their new form of concrete.
As the schematic clearly shows a French-style chateau, perhaps the reason is simply that Mr.
Pensmore is a laboratory for exploring different methods of creating and storing usable energy that can be applied on a broad scale across commercial and residential structures. Over time we will be revealing more details about the creative implementations that are giving reality to the vision. But what some people may not be aware of is that the home is also being built to show off new technology created by Huff’s company and the Helix Corporation. Unfortunately, like other baked materials (bricks, adobe), concrete is brittle, and cracks into long and irreparable fissures, so it must be reinforced with a fibrous or tensile material – straw, rebar, or something else.
Because the Helix product is poured into concrete, it costs less than using rebar, though it can be used along with rebar for additional reinforcement, Pinkerton said.
Pensmore’s structural shell, based on the super insulating TransForm system by TF, is comprised of continuously reinforced high performance poured-in-place concrete. The partnership of TF Concrete Forming Systems and Helix is to show that a house can have that durability, yet look aesthetically pleasing.
Ideally – and quite probably – the Helix product can be patented, and if its manufacturing costs are low, or it can be manufactured around the world, then its business royalty and licensing value could be enormous – well worth the cost of a showcase home. Wiesehan, planning and zoning administrator for Christian County, is fielding calls from all over the U.S. Luke Pinkerton, founder of Michigan-based Helix, said his company partnered with Huff and his company to build the home just off Woods Fork Road east of U.S. Huff used Pinkerton’s steel reinforcement product in the insulated concrete, manufactured and distributed by TF Concrete Forming Systems, to build the concrete home. The idea was to create a home that uses very low energy, as well as having strong resistance to tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, fire, flood and insect damage, Pinkerton said. Pensmore is a prototype of what the group hopes to be the future of construction, as well as residential construction.
Wood homes proliferated in America because in America, wood is plentiful and therefore cheap both to acquire and to transport.  In Europe, which had built out its forest capacity by the seventeenth century, wood gave way to brick and stone.  Now to concrete?

As much attention as the Pensmore home is gaining for its size, the Helix product is also beginning to attract attention, especially after the Joplin tornado. When I was an engineer I was an electrical engineer not a civil engineer, so I am hardly an expert on concrete.
In a few minutes with Google I learned there are MANY companies selling various types of fiber reinforced concrete.
Steel Fibers, Micro-synthetic fibers, Macro-synthetic fibers, Glass Fibers, Cellulose Fibers, Natural Fibers, PVA Fibers, other fibers, and blends of fibers. Of course concrete itself is hardly new — I have visited the Pantheon in Rome, an amazing concrete dome that has been there for nearly 2,000 years.
Are you concerned about the time or having the mess that the conventional construction process can cause? We create your space at our facility, ship it and install it faster and with less hassle and mess.
What would you do and where could you go for protection if something in our very unstable world finally does unravel?! Concrete Fencing for that first line of defense: Our precast concrete fences are not only strong and durable, but can add an artistic appeal.
The austere dome is also surprisingly high-tech, outfitted with a SolCool hybrid air-conditioner powered by solar panels or vertical wind turbines that uses moisture from the air to provide up to 3 liters of fresh drinking water each day. Life Armour was created by the folks at Pond who, after seeing the devastating damage and loss in human life caused by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami last year, believe Japan needs a personal disaster shelter that is both practical and affordable. The vessel is designed to protect up to four people and can withstand up to 9.3 tons of pressure on its body and falls from up to 25 meters. The exterior is made from reinforced plastic and can be customized in several color schemes. Pond also offers a number of optional items to customize your order with, such as a GPS tracker, a waterproof megaphone, emergency rations, and a solar panel that attaches to the interior of the window. You can purchase Life Armour online from Seikoh, though youa€™ll have to contact Pond directly if you want one shipped overseas. Traditionally, Japanese employees have been expected to remain at one company and have their salaries go up based on seniority instead of performance.
When it comes to building a survival shelter you can either do-it-yourself or hire a qualified contractor to do it for you. The question on everybody's lips is "Do I really need a Fire Shelter?" Find out why it is an absolute must in this article.. This project is a shelter solution that meets the needs of emergency response but also provides victims with a more personal place to live; a base unit that can serve as a very basic shelter but also have the capabilities to upgrade and implement modern infrastructure.
All components that create the modular living unit are stored inside the shelter in its collapsed position during transport. In some cases proper design of a camp is not possible because refugees have already settled on a site. For example, phase two would include building an outhouse, rather than having a defecation field or trench.
If, instead, there were two separate, single level, structures next to each other it would take up twice as much floor space to accommodate the same number of people.
Since 2011, Julian Sharpe and Scott Hill have actively developed Survival Capsule, a range of pod-like disaster shelters for between two and ten people. The watertight capsules can float free or be tethered to a location via a cable, which is designed to release if the capsule is in danger of being trapped underwater. The capsules also have a one-hour oxygen supply that can get occupants through periods of total submersion, and they have storage space for water and supplies for up to five days so occupants can survive in a disaster zone until help arrives. In addition to tsunamis, it is envisioned the capsules could protect people in the event of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and storm surges. Sharpe, Hill and business partner Eddie Bernard, a tsunami expert, recently traveled throughout Japan visiting disaster-preparedness expos and taking orders.
Huff would like a really, really big house that is also a showpiece for his concrete-forming company. Concrete reinforcement begins with conventional rebar, but for Pensmore we decided to supplement with Helix steel fiber from Polytorx. Our no hassle experience allows you to enjoy your new space like it was always a part of your house.

Custom concrete barriers allow for additional safety when using firearms and can bring a range to a more convenient location, such as under your home.  We can also provide firing area and target area construction for a outdoor high power rifle range.
Insulation and climate control equipment can insure that your valuables are kept at optimum temperature and humidities.
ICF construction provides options for installing a bunker in more locations where accessibility may be more difficult.
This gives the owners the peace of mind that their family is safe in their Custom Safe Home. These vessels were built to keep their occupant safe across light years of intergalactic travel, and durable enough to withstand impact upon arrival. If we didna€™t know any better, wea€™d accuse Pond of ripping off alien technology after discovering an abandoned Saiyan pod in the ocean. You could while away the hours waiting to be rescued shouting "Open the pod bay doors, Hal".
This shelter can be very quickly transported and reassembled with just few necessary tools and offer victims with individual living space. Hakan Gursu, an exceptional product designer, instructor in METU and CEO of Designnobis has come up with an excellent project, Power Tower. Since I am from Disaster Management and Securities this thing has contributed to my knowledge. While the pair are at pains to note that evacuating is the best plan in such an emergency, the capsules are particularly intended for the very young, the elderly and the infirm who cannot so readily escape. The capsules are available for pre-order through the company’s website, with prices starting at $10,000 for the two-person model. The resulting concrete is both stronger and more ductile in the face of the whirling winds of a tornado, or other natural disasters.
There is no steel fibre which performs like Helix does because the anchorage is mechanical and not frictional. For those of you who don’t want a buried structure or your property won’t allow it, Custom Safe Homes are a great alternative still allowing you that same kind of protection that a buried structure offers. Intershelter's 50-year life span and ability to withstand 40 feet of snow and 160-mile-an-hour winds make it perfect for emergency relief, quarantine shelters, and military bases all over the world. Researchers are discovering these conditions are now taking place in regions which had previously not supported tornado activity in the least. The best thing about Uber shelter is that it is made from recyclable and reusable materials. Many alternative housing solutions deal with small scale but can’t cope with large scale displaced populations. When it is no longer needed, it can be dismantled, packed flat again, and moved to the next disaster area. When the initial crisis occurs, Uber is shipped as a base unit to meet the initial need for shelter. ICF concrete construction can give you the peace of mind that your family and valuables will still be secure during that next big storm or disaster. By using prestressed precast concrete our homes are designed to withstand all that our environment is throwing at us. The aim has been to design a shelter that is compatible with the current system used in refugee camps and emergencies by organizations such as the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).
When the camp is ready for phase two, a separate upgrade package is shipped and added into the shelters units to provide conveniences (electricity for light, compact stove and refrigerator).
Plus your home can be retro fitted with a safe area that fits seamlessly with your home and it’s existing architectural design.
We can also upgrade your homes security and sustainability to keep not only you but your valuables safe too.
