The department is also responsible for the development and implementation of the Virginia School Bus Driver Training Curriculum Guide. The Montana Common Core Standards, Montana’s English Language Arts and Mathematics standards, ensure that our students graduate prepared for college and the workforce.
The standards are higher and clearer than our previous standards and provide a grade-by-grade pathway that gives all students an opportunity for a high quality education.
Additionally, the clear, grade-by-grade standards allow parents to know how their child is doing in school today and trust the information.
Working together, we will meet the goal of graduating every Montana student from high school prepared for college, work and life.

These Standards endeavor to follow such a design, not only by stressing conceptual understanding of key ideas, but also by continually returning to organizing principles such as place value or the laws of arithmetic to structure those ideas. In addition, the “sequence of topics and performances” that is outlined in a body of mathematics standards must also respect what is known about how students learn. The Standards for Mathematical Practice describe varieties of expertise that mathematics educators at all levels should seek to develop in their students. This document does not include the Montana Common Core Standards with Indian Education for All standards. The course descriptions delineate the mathematics standards to be covered in a course; they are not prescriptions for curriculum or pedagogy. Units within each course are intended to suggest a possible grouping of the standards into coherent blocks; in this way, units may also be considered “critical areas” or “big ideas”, and these terms are used interchangeably throughout the document. While courses are given names for organizational purposes, districts are encouraged to carefully consider the content in each course and use names that they feel are most appropriate. The Montana Common Core Standards for Mathematical Practice and Content are not intended to be new names for old ways of doing business. The Montana Common Core Standards Stages of Implementation Continuum is a comprehensive resource for school districts to self-assess readiness, create action plans, and access targeted resources and processes for aligning curriculum, instruction and assessment. STAGE 1, the Montana Common Core Standards for each grade and subject area have been thoroughly studied and are understood. The suggested procedures and listed resources are outlined to complete the steps for STAGE 1 as indicated in the Self-Assessment.

Minnesota Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) does not require you to take commercial driver's education classes, but you should still consider them a valuable resource. Below you will find suggestions on how to best prepare for the tests you'll be expected to take for your CDL. As mentioned above, you aren't required by Minnesota state law to take driver's education courses during your application for a CDL.
Any additional written tests that apply to the classification and endorsement(s) of the commercial vehicle you'll be driving.
In-class courses will prepare you for the initial written test(s), required for you to get your CDL instruction permit. Behind-the-wheel programs will prepare you for the road skills test, and familiarize you with the vehicle you'll be driving during the road exam. Although enrollment in classroom driver's education programs isn't state-required, you should still consider it a viable option.
An in-class program proves especially beneficial if your home environment isn't conducive to studying what, at times, can be very dense material. In-class CDL education will differ in price and course length depending on where you choose to enroll. We offer a series of DMV Practice tests to help you prepare for your Commercial Driver License test. In terms of curriculum in a CDL behind-the-wheel class, look for a program that covers all of the skills you'll need to know to pass the Minnesota CDL road test, including:A thorough pre-trip vehicle inspection. Maybe your budget and schedule don't allow for CDL prep courses, or maybe you just learn more effectively when studying on your own. I acknowledge that is a privately-owned Web site that is not owned or operated by any state government agency. is a privately owned website that is not owned or operated by any state government agency. The standards reflect the knowledge and skills that students need to be successful in the 21st century economy such as problem-solving, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, research and use of technology. The new standards set an expectation that students graduating from high school will be capable of successfully completing first-year college courses. Teachers may find these documents useful for the implementation of literacy across content areas.

William Schmidt and Richard Houang (2002) have said that content standards and curricula are coherent if they are: articulated over time as a sequence of topics and performances that are logical and reflect, where appropriate, the sequential or hierarchical nature of the disciplinary content from which the subject matter derives. As Confrey (2007) points out, developing “sequenced obstacles and challenges for students…absent the insights about meaning that derive from careful study of learning, would be unfortunate and unwise.” In recognition of this, the development of these Standards began with research-based learning progressions detailing what is known today about how students' mathematical knowledge, skill, and understanding develop over time. These practices rest on important “processes and proficiencies” with long-standing importance in mathematics education. A few (+) standards are included to increase coherence but are not necessarily expected to be addressed on high stakes assessments.
Additional work will be needed to create coherent instructional programs that help students achieve these standards.
The ordering of the clusters within a unit follows the order of the standards document in most cases, not the order in which they might be taught.
Guiding questions to facilitate the discussion are included in the Math Facilitate a Staff Meeting document. The date you see here reflects the most recent time we've verified this information with your state DMV.
For new MN commercial driver's license (CDL) holders, there are additional safety and driving skills you have to know about before taking a big rig out on the road. However, enrolling in classroom and behind-the-wheel programs will make passing the required exams much easier. So, just make sure that the program you choose fits into your budget and schedule, and covers all of the material you'll need to know. In addition to carefully studying your state's driver handbook, these tests will give you an idea about the types of questions you may see on the actual written test.
You have to hold your instruction permit for at least 14 days before signing up for a road test.During the waiting period, consider signing up for a behind-the-wheel course. Whatever the case, you always have the option of preparing for the Driver and Vehicle Services CDL tests on your own time. The Minnesota commercial driver's manual has all of the information you'll need to know before going into the written test(s).
Persons participating in the various pupil transportation services programs provided by the Department of Education should meet the requirements for persons employed to drive school buses as required by Section 22.1-178 of the Code of Virginia. That is, what and how students are taught should reflect not only the topics that fall within a certain academic discipline, but also the key ideas that determine how knowledge is organized and generated within that discipline.
The first of these are the NCTM process standards of problem solving, reasoning and proof, communication, representation, and connections. Attention to ordering content within a unit will be needed as instructional programs are developed.
Just make sure that you cover every section pertaining to the class and endorsements of the CDL you're applying for.Other helpful preparation tools are practice tests.
The appendices were not adopted by the Montana Board of Public Education and so are not required to be used in any manner. The second are the strands of mathematical proficiency specified in the National Research Council's report Adding It Up: adaptive reasoning, strategic competence, conceptual understanding (comprehension of mathematical concepts, operations and relations), procedural fluency (skill in carrying out procedures flexibly, accurately, efficiently and appropriately), and productive disposition (habitual inclination to see mathematics as sensible, useful, and worthwhile, coupled with a belief in diligence and one's own efficacy). These resources support collaboration for the transition and implementation of these standards. Most practice tests will familiarize you with the format of the CDL exams and identify areas that might require a little more studying. The Office of Public Instruction has no position relative to any endorsement of these documents. These deeper structures then serve as a means for connecting the particulars (such as an understanding of the rational number system and its properties).
