Skills such as critical thinking, communication, collaboraion and creativity will become more important to organizations in the future.

Schools must prepare students for a different workplace - one that values innovation, imagination, creativity, communication, and emotional intelligence. IAE discovered the relationships of the 4 C's (Communication, Critical Thinking, Collaboration and Creativity) to one another and realized that the first three C's (Communication, Critical Thinking and Collaboration ) is the foundation for the fourth C (Creativity).
As you will see notated in the Venn Diagram above, IAE equates Creativity with Innovation, the principle quality that IAE is helping students to achieve in their own lives and careers. Perhaps an even better model of the 4 C's is the Tetrahedron because it illustrates that Creativity (innovation) stands upon a foundation of Communication, Critical Thinking and Collaboration. IAE considers Creativity (Innovation) to be the most important skill for success the 21st century global economy, but we recognize that Creativity is the result of first understanding the foundational 3 C's.
Creative Force Triptych is an interdisciplinary scholarship program from Innovation Advancing Education that is intended to introduce liberal arts student to the concepts of the 4 C's from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills™ (Critical Thinking, Communication, Collaboration and Creativity). Phase 1 of the program is being deployed at Tyler Junior College during the Fall 2012 - Spring 2013 semesters, and it will involve students interested in music composition and performance. Schools are incorporating 21st Century teaching and learning strategies in different degrees. Integrating Problem-based Learning, Next Generation Science, Common Core Practices and Science Fair Projects. Science Fair projects are a natural end result of Problem-based Learning in science and provide a venue for students to present their work to the public.
Problem-based Learning (PBL) is a key instructional approach to implement the Next Generation Science Standards, integrate science practices into the Common Core Standards and prepares students for college, career and citizenship in the 21st century.

They need to use higher-order thinking skills, teamwork, make their own ideas clear when speaking, be able to express themselves in various modes, and make effective presentations. This “ups the stakes,” increasing students’ motivation to do high-quality work – just as creating displays and judging does for science fair projects. No matter how advanced technology becomes, the great leader will always have a need for the “well-crafted” message.

Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content and practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication and critical thinking).
These skills, competencies and habits of mind are often known as “21st century skills,” because they are prerequisite for success in the 21st century workplace.  These skills are also vital to designing, conducting and presenting a successful science fair project to peers, judges and the general public. Gone are the days where you could walk into a business with a resume or fill out a job application, interview on the spot, and come out with employment. With the rapid growth in technology, many of the jobs of the future are yet to be realized.So what skills do our students need for the 21st Century? These days, knowledge of computers and the Internet is nearly prerequisite for obtaining any sort of job.
Even foodservice positions, once relatively easy to come by, now require personality and background checks, and online applications. The problem is, there are many people out there who don't have the Internet and who have little to no knowledge of computers.
It's a sad fact, but many people just assume that computer knowledge is something everyone has, and react negatively to those who don't have it.
There are a lot of smart people out there who just haven't had the opportunity to be exposed to computers.Here at the Millvale Community Library, and at libraries all over the country, we do our best to help those who need access to computers, and who need help with basic computer skills. Not only are we willing to provide an informal ten-minute "crash course" in using computers to anyone at any time, but we offer weekly computer classes through the North Hills Community Outreach. These classes are held every Thursday at 6PM, and cover everything from basic computer use, to the Internet, to Microsoft Word and Excel.
