This is part 2 of 3 in a 3-part series about how you can bring certain foods into your garden at home. Citrus fruits are packed full of vitamins, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium – the list goes on.
It’s kind of funny – you need them, but you need to keep yourself from going overboard at the same time!
Certain citrus fruits are easier to grow than others, and thankfully, two of the best ones can be grown right in your yard.
I know the first part of this series was directed towards superfoods that you can grow at home – and don’t you worry, lemon is definitely a superfood too. Cover the pot with clear plastic wrap, seal the edges with a good rubber band, and poke small holes in the top with a pencil. Take care of the young plant by keeping the soil damp, by making sure it gets at least eight full hours of light per day, and by giving it moderate doses of organic fertilizer.
I love mandarins because of their richness of antioxidants, calcium, magnesium, fiber, and more. If you want to grow your tree indoors, I recommend going for a baby tree, the same way I recommended it for lemons. Mandarin trees are safe to grow indoors because they usually don’t grow much taller than 6 feet in height. Tip: Be careful twisting the oranges off of the tree – you want to make sure the little button at the top of the orange stays there. So there you have it, two easy ways to get delicious citrus fruits on your table without any hassle. I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial mothers day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life. It’s that time of year again when we start to shake off winter’s chill and start reaching for hoes and spades. A decade ago, few people other than those with celiac disease, a digestive condition, knew much about the health implications of gluten. By Shoshana RomerTwice a year, hundreds of the world’s finest food companies gather to showcase their products to eager buyers such as ourselves, at the Fancy Food Show. What inspired you to start your business? The lack of awareness for great tasting and nutritious vegan Indian food in America and also the fact that organic Indian grocery products didn’t even exist.
We here at Jolly Africa are proud to announce that Life-Flo Pure Cocoa Butter is now available. Organic cocoa butter is a superb moisturizer and is known for its hydrating effects. Summer is a time for enjoying delicious fruits and vegetables that are not always available year round.  A healthy diet consists of seasonal produce that not only tastes great, but also helps to keep us hydrated during the warmer months. Take a stroll through your local farmer’s market and see the wonderful offerings on display, many of them organic and most of them locally grown.  Fresh peaches, plums, cucumbers, summer squashes, cherries, and strawberries await, to be enjoyed as a snack or as part of a refreshing meal. I love that when I buy summer produce at my neighborhood market, the food has usually travelled a short distance to get to my plate.  Nearby farmers most often come from less than 100 miles away to sell their goods to eager patrons. Buying seasonal means that you’re choosing to eat fruits and vegetables that are native to a specific area.  Seasonal foods thrive in conditions where the climate is most perfect and appropriate for that particular species.
Would you rather enjoy a beautiful, organic heirloom tomato that grew naturally, from the Earth’s rich bounty of soil and sun?  Or, one that was genetically produced across the country, sprayed with pesticides to keep bugs away, and harvested early so that it would not spoil on the way to the grocer?
It thrills me to think about all of the wonderful dishes and cool drinks I’ll make with what I take home from the market.  For those of you who live in cities without a farmers’ market, stop into health food store or cooperative, or inquire about direct purchasing produce directly from farms in your area.
Choose one or a few of these hydrating summer foods, and prepare a decadent salad, smoothie, or raw food entree that will feed your body and your spirit!
Watermelon – Again, this fruit is mostly water.  I love a huge slice of watermelon, but it’s also fun to blend it with ice and a little coconut palm sugar, and make a frozen granita for a light dessert. Cabbage – Cabbage has tons of Vitamin C, and is packed with fiber.  This summer vegetable is rich in natural probiotics, which help to keep the digestive system working efficiently. Lettuce – Most lettuces are about 90% water.  I adore a spicy mix, or a mesclun salad, which are filled with a nice blend of the best lettuces and herbs of summer. Figs – These summer beauties taste so indulgent on coconut milk ice cream, or mixed in a shake or smoothie.  Make a fig chutney, with some medijool dates, and enjoy it on whole grain crackers as a potassium and fiber filled treat. Cherries – Cherries have more antioxidants and Vitamin C than almost any food on the planet.  Rainier cherries are so flavorful, with their candy-like yellow flesh cut open and placed on a salad or just eaten plain.
Grapes – These hydrating balls of goodness are known for their extremely high content of Resveratrol, a substance that acts as an antioxidant and is heart-friendly.  Take your pick from green, red, black, and purple, and revel in one of summer’s most delicious fruits.
Shop nature’s supermarket this summer, filling your basket with fruits and vegetables that fight premature aging and combat disease.  Your body and taste buds will thank you. Thank you, Elaine, for this gift and all the previous ones including the videos on your website.

THANK YOU so much for the advice and information on green juicing which I am absolutely addicted to.
Okay, the Living Water Essential is one of the best decisions that I’ve made for my family. Sharon and I would like to express how important Renewed Living has been to our real estate business. Sharon and I would like to express how important Renewed Living has been to our real estate business. Upon moving into a new office, I began to have headaches from the new carpet and paint fumes. We love having the Fresh Air Purifier here at the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce office.
I just had to write and tell you about the huge impact having the Air Purifiers have had on my family. Some of them can be done indoors and out, it’s all up to you – the best part is, you get all the healthy benefits of organic food without the worry of any chemical contamination. Even though they may not make for a balanced meal on their own, they sure do offer a huge list of benefits that can complement the rest of our diet. By growing them yourself, you’ll be able to taste the difference in freshness and quality, and keep your body free from any chemical contamination associated with non-organic growing. But at the same time, lemons are so useful for so many different things that they kind of exist in another universe on their own.
Pick out a clay or plastic pot (with a lot of holes in the bottom), and make sure that it’s a bit larger than the actual root ball of your baby tree (when the tree matures, it may need a pot that’s about 12-15 inches deep, and 17-20 inches in diameter) .
Make sure you’re giving it about 8-10 hours of sunlight a day, and watering regularly (be careful not to over-water).
If you need additional light for your lemon plant, you can use a grow light to supplement the sun’s light.
You will go through much the same procedure when you re-plant it as when you first planted. They’re a good change from your regular “Florida” oranges, and it isn’t too difficult to grow them at home.
These baby trees just tend to have more successful growth records than starting with seeds. Water them regularly but conservatively, and change the pot to a larger one once the roots grow back on themselves or poke out of your drainage holes. The final section of this series will show you how you can grow delicious herbs in your home, without having to spend extra money at the grocery store.
While they may now give great fruit the leaves can be crushed ,the flowers are nice as the trees make a great house plant .
Some people like to place the cut top in a glass of water for a week or so to start the root growth. Also note that at some point one or more of your pineapple plants may spread on their own from root shoots if grown outdoors in a subtropical climate like FL.
She is on the front lines, demanding that huge corporations start cleaning up their act and removing toxins from the stuff they call food. So, I had a mission: launch the first ever organic Indian grocery product for the vegan audience in America.
Don’t be shy about asking each vendor about their growing practices, what chemicals may be used on their crops, and when the fruits and vegetables were harvested. If you haven’t seen part 1 about growing superfoods in your home, you can find that here.
At the same time, they do tend to be high in sugar – so managing how much of them you’re eating is imperative when it comes to maintaining a balanced diet.
Whether you’re adding them to water or making use of their peels, the convenience of growing your own lemons is not something that should be ignored. Get your baby tree into the pot, and fill the drainage container with stones to improve air flow. Lemons take about 6-9 months to ripen, so when they have a full color and a slight give to their touch – you’re all set.
Prepare the pot the same way you would lemons (spacious with rocks, and drainage holes at the bottom), and give the oranges regular sunlight. Pick the oranges as soon as they turn orange, because every moment after that means more and more flavor dying away.

I give each tree a little water everyday and I feed them Drammatic K (spelling is correct) weekly all year long.
First note that it's important to buy only pineapples that are fully ripe, but their tops are still green and not dried out.
This style of eating has become a way of life for many and a national punch line for others. Some of the benefits for doing so are you’ll reduce household waste going to the landfill and you’ll be creating a rich soil conditioner and fertilizer for your plants and garden. This year our goal was to discover sweet spot products in the savory category: olive oils, vinegars, crackers, spreads, sauces, chips and other innovative snacks.
I pulled it off after about 9 years with the 2005 launch of my Organic Indian Spice Blend Line. What is your proudest accomplishment? No question, NYC Entrepreneur of the Year in 2007. It’s naturally rich in vitamin e and is useful to moisturize scar tissue and stretch marks.
Today, I am enjoying a cancer-free life, with a renewed optimism and a renewed commitment to help others overcome and avoid what I had to go through.
Yes weight loss, although not the focus as you say-getting healthy is-was a direct by-product. It’s our approach to start living healthy, drinking healthy water, and when I decided to do that, I looked at my children and I said I’m responsible for their health so it’s important for me that they get good nutrition, as well as good water. In today's world it's almost impossible to successfully market a property that has offensive odors. Otherwise, the next section covers ways that you can grow blood pressure-lowering, vitamin-enriching herbs in your garden.
The soil must be kept very moist at least until new growth is seen and then moderately wet thereafter.
But, somewhere in the middle of our growing season, many people succumb to the darkness of weed killer and chemical fertilizers. More than a quarter of Americans say they are cutting down on gluten or eliminating it entirely.
The warmer days and nights will help the contents in the compost pile break down faster than during the winter months. By indulging your Valentine in rich and decadent dark chocolate, you’re not only satisfying their sweet tooth, but you’re showing you care about their health as well!According to Women’s Health Magazine, cacao, the source of dark chocolate’s distinct taste, is packed with healthy compounds like flavonoids that have antioxidant properties which are “believed to help the body's cells resist damage caused by free radicals that are formed by normal bodily processes, such as breathing, and from environmental contaminants, like cigarette smoke.” Additionally, flavonoids can help lower blood pressure as well as improve blood flow to the brain and heart, which makes blood platelets less sticky and able to clot. I thought I didn’t have time to introduce new concepts and activities into my life, it was just too much effort. Keep in mind that some soils are specifically prepared for growing citrus fruits, so they will likely yield better results.
Her efforts have helped to dispel the myth that the USDA, FDA and mega-food corporations were actually interested in our health and wellbeing.
Optimistic researchers predict the market for gluten-free products will hit $15.6 billion by 2016. Popcorn is gluten free which makes it a perfect stand-in snack for eaters with sensitivities to gluten.
I work the markets myself so I can say hi to the families who got me off the ground 12 plus years ago.
The Food and Drug Administration has noted the diet trend as well, and passed new labeling laws for gluten-free products to take effect in August.Diet fads come and go. Start your compost pile on bare earth to allow worms and other organisms to aerate the compost.
Thanks to some honorable farmers and eager consumers, non-GMO corn is readily available in the marketplace.
But observers of nutrition and eating trends in the United States say this food regimen is likely to last longer and have more impact because it comes at a time when food allergies, digestive health, genetic modification of grain and other concerns about the American diet are at an all-time high and food itself is the current cultural currency. If you’re short on space or prefer to contain the pile, you can use a compost bin or compost tumbler.2. What tech gadget can you not live without and how does it make a difference in your life?Blackberry. Gluten-free eating addresses it all.“We are in this period of cacophony with food, where people are more engaged and more confused,” said Amy Bentley, an associate professor in the department of nutrition, food studies and public health at New York University.
Pop Art is organic and they went the extra step to become Non GMO Project Verified that is very important when dealing with corn. Add a nitrogen source, like manure or green manure (clover, buckwheat, wheatgrass, grass clippings), to activate and speed up the compost process.5.
