This atmospheric pub on St Leonards street is a hidden gem in the Southside and Newington’s only alternative pub. Serving excellent food at surprisingly low cost, this pub has a diverse group of regulars as well as various clubs who use it as their meeting place.
The jukebox is by far the best I’ve found in Edinburgh, with rock, punk, and goth, as well as the older classics. Please submit your ratings, comments and reviews to make this web site more useful for everyone. The last two years have been incredible for Ranganathan with his two critically acclaimed Edinburgh Festival shows, ‘Rom Wasn’t Built In A Day’ and ‘Rom Com’ being nominated for the coveted Edinburgh Festival Awards for Best Show 2014 and Best Newcomer in 2013.  This new show promises to be as much of a hit! Now berthed in Edinburgh, you can follow in the footsteps of royalty to discover the heart and soul of this most special of Royal residences. After the exhibition, you’re given a handset and told by the friendly staff to complete the tour at your own pace.

Towards the end of the tour we saw the gleaming engine room and an exhibition detailing the royal family’s interest in sailing throughout the last century.
The Royal Yacht Britannia was home to Her Majesty The Queen and the Royal Family for over 40 years, sailing over 1,000,000 miles around the world. From a low key entrance in Ocean Terminal shopping centre, Leith, you go through an exhibition that details, amongst other things, the history of Royal Yachts and also has the original wheelhouse on display. You can do the tour in a huge range of languages, twenty seven in fact, making the Britannia tour the most translated in the world!
We exited though the shop (of course!) and there seemed to be something there to suit every budget. I’m told it gets fiercely busy in August, but then so does everywhere in Edinburgh at that time.
It is wonderful to hear about your visit, and I am delighted that you had an enjoyable experience.

The next level shows where the admiral used to live and also the royal apartments themselves. As you have visited once, you can apply for your free Annual Pass which allows you free entry for 12 months and a 15% discount in our Tea Room and Gift Shop. One of the staff was at the stern of the ship to take our photograph in the same place the Queen and her family used to be snapped on their holidays! The array of scones and cakes in the tearoom was extensive and it’s a great place for a light lunch too. I was amazed that the Queen’s bed was so small and that the whole decor on the ship was so relatively simple.
