I'm the original Survival Mom, and have been helping moms worry less and enjoy their homes and families more for 5 years.
Need to take a CPR and First Aid class and get into better shape…otherwise I'm surprised how well I did!
This makes me soooo thankful I was reared in the country by a mom who could sew and garden and raise chickens and do all sorts of things I took for granted at the time. I'm impressed by how much you can do and how much closer you are to prepared than most of us! You are fortunate to live in an area where you have the land and resources to accomplish these goals- and parents to share these skills with you. I think people are waking up to the fact that the world’s economies are volatile and these old skills may make a difference in our lives. I have some ideas running thru my head for the guys in the family….Do you know how to dig a well and hook up a hand pump for water? Lisa, how about if I post the question to all the gals reading this blog and see what they have to say. There is no way to tell a horsea€™s speed and jump strength at a glance, youa€™ll just have to have a go.
Most horses can jump over obstacles that are 3 blocks high, but some are worse at jumping than that and a few are even better, with the very best horses able to jump high fences. The speed horses can run at is very variable; most horses go about 10 blocks per second, but they can be as slow as 5 blocks per second, or as fast as 14 blocks per second.
Faster isna€™t always better though: a very fast horse is hard to control, and if your computer isna€™t quite powerful enough to keep up, it can be hard to see where youa€™re going.
Once a horse has been tamed, you can hold down SHIFT and right click to open the horsea€™s inventory screen.
To ride your horse, you will need a Saddle; these can be found in treasure chests in dungeons, mine shafts, desert temples or fortresses. Baby horses normally take 20 minutes to grow into adults, but you can speed up the process by feeding them. Horses usually get their colour and markings from one of their parents, although sometimes a foal will look quite different. These statistics are related to those of the parents in a complicated way: the new horse will be like the average of its parents, but with a small random element. For example, if you breed two fast horses together, most of their babies will not quite fast, but not as fast as the parents. Donkeys and mules are special horses that cana€™t wear armour, but can carry stuff for you.
Once you have tamed a donkey or mule, right click on it whilst holding a chest and it will sprout some uncomfortable-looking saddlebags.
Now when you look at its inventory screen, you will see that the big blank area in the inventory screen has turned into item slots you can load your stuff into. Dona€™t forget that you can use Name Tags to give your horse a name, or a Lead to tie it to a fence-post.

Following the sinking of the liner RMS Lusitania in 1915 and the interception of the “Zimmerman Telegram” (in which Germany proposed an alliance between herself and Mexico) in 1917, America’s pacifistic attitude toward the war in Europe took an abrupt turn, and a clarion call to arms was heard throughout the country.
Unfortunately, when the Yanks entered the conflict in World War I, stocks of arms, while not unsubstantial, were still deemed to be inadequate for the large number of troops that were being raised.
While the standard 1903 Springfield rifle and the 1911 Government Model pistol were being produced with as much speed as possible, other arms, such as the 1917 Enfield rifle and modified Colt and Smith & Wesson revolvers, were also pressed into service.
Model 1917s were widely used during World War I as a substitute standard to the 1911 Government Model. The gun itself was an apt choice, for it was strong, reliable, accurate and possessed of a crisp single action and smooth double action.
The butt of the S&W Model 1917 was marked with the gun’s designation as well as the serial number. The S&W Model 1917, as the gun was now called, featured a blued finish, case-hardened hammer and trigger, 5?-inch barrel, smooth walnut grips and a lanyard ring on the butt. The 1917’s cylinder could be swung open by simply pushing forward on a frame-mounted latch.
While the Brazilian contract was satisfied in 1938, Smith again offered civilian S&W Model 1917s from mid-1946 to 1949 with new-made guns and revolvers assembled using leftover frames. Along with the Model 1917 Colt New Service, the S&W Model 1917 has always been one of my favorite early double-action revolvers. As with practically all of the other Second Model Hand Ejectors that I have had the opportunity to examine, this gun has a silky-smooth double-action and extremely smart single-action pull. The S&W Model 1917 was taken along with a supply of 230-grain FMJ Black Hills and Pro-Load ammo (approximating the original GI-issue round) and a handful of half-moon clips to a shooting facility at the Petersen Ranch in Lake Elizabeth, Calif. The gun was fired single action from a rest at 25 yards, double action in the same manner and rapid-fire DA at a combat range of seven yards. While .45 ACP rounds could be loaded and fired in a 1917 in a pinch, the half-moon clips allowed the rounds to be easily ejected via a star extractor. The gun handled like a dream in all modes, with balance, reliability and general handling characteristics being in the A+ category. The bottom line is, were I a doughboy in the trenches of World War I, I would certainly not feel that I was ill-equipped to deal with the Hun. In any event, the S&W Model 1917 was a more than adequate wartime stopgap that has provided shooters and collectors with a high-quality, history-packed double-action sixgun for more than a half-century. Smith & Wesson once offered a retro version of the Model 1917 in its classic line of revolvers. Come join me on my journey to becoming more prepared to handle everyday emergencies and worst case scenarios.
We'll probably try to get a chicken coop over the summer so we can start keeping chickens. You can see a horsea€™s health once you tame it, as you can ride it and count its hearts on your screen. Place the armour in its slot in the horsea€™s inventory and your steed will be looking mighty fine!

It will also make wild horses easier to tame, and will cause horses to grow if they are not already adult. The Second Model Hand Ejector, as might be inferred from its name, was a 1915 follow-up of the First Model Hand Ejector of 1908, but it lacked the premier gun’s triple locking system (at the breech, front of the extractor rod and the yoke), substituting a dual system that eliminated the yoke lock. Either blued or nickel-plated finishes were offered, and grips were checkered walnut with S&W logo escutcheons. The gun was basically a stock DA with the cylinder altered to handle the rimless rounds, which were snapped into a pair of three-round spring steel half-moon clips to facilitate loading and ejection. While the setup was really intended to aid ejection (which it did), it anticipated the speedloader by a number of years (though to be fair, the Brits had their Prideaux “quick-loader” for use with the .455 Mark VI Webley and Webley-Fosbery automatic revolver at just about the same time).
Specifications are true to the originals with a 5?-inch barrel, lanyard ring on the grip and a pinned, half-moon front sight.
They're cheap and easy to use out of the box, but they are often in serious need of modification so that they shoot further, faster and more accurately. We just planted more berry bushes in front yard and within a few years should (fingers crossed) be getting lots of several different kinds of berries. Try again, and again, until finally you see some red hearts and the horse lets you stay on. The game Minecraft, and all trademarks and copyrights associated with it, belong to Mojang AB.
In a pinch, the .45s could be fired in the gun without the clips, but as they could not be engaged by the star extractor, it was necessary to poke out spent cases one at a time with some sort of rod. They are virtually identical to the World War I guns, though some do have the commercial-style checkered grips, and all have the Brazilian seal emblazoned on their sideplates.
Single-action groups ran in the 1?-inch range, rested DA spreads came in at around 2? inches, and combat shots all spotted well under three inches. Though it doesn’t have the military markings of a true 1917 and does sport checkered grips, in all other ways, it is every bit as good as the original. I was actually really annoyed when I tried to use the plastic lighter and went back in for REAL (fireplace) matches. As I was coaxing it to life, I found myself really wishing I had some fir sticks, but it wasn't worth the effort at that point.
Stewart, who inspected 1917 Colts and Smith & Wessons and 1911 Government Models during World War I. The trigger can be set to single or two-stage and the folding butt stock is adjustable for length of pull. The Ballista weighs at a tick under 17 pounds and gives the operator the ability engage targets out to 1,500 meters. I have a year's stockpile of food, along with six months of toiletries and cleaning supplies and medicines and stationary items.
Once you go in, you find more and more to do, but I'll keep at it because every bit adds more security to my family.
