This is Part 1 of the video to replace the hybrid battery in a Gen II Toyota Prius (2004-2009) This covers dismantling the rear seats and interior trim pieces in the rear of the vehicle. Having just purchased a very high mileage used 2005 Prius for a good deal and putting about 1,000 miles on it before getting the triangle of death, I was faced with the thought of spending $3,500 for a dealer battery replacement or attempt to DIY for about $50. 7th Lesson Learned – Be very careful with the wire clips, screw threads, and everything in general. Now here is where I am also going to go against what the experts on this forum tell you; I did not re-balance the whole battery pack. 8th Lesson Learned – I went with the B6AC charger because Amazon had it cheap on prime 2 day shipping and unlike the other charger DC6 I was able to plug this one into the wall socket. Overall the next step of putting the pack into parallel and taking it back apart was the hardest part of the whole bit; especially when taking it apart.
9th Lesson Learned – There is no need to crisscross the wires when putting the pack into parallel except maybe at one end. 10th Lesson Learned – Since I was paranoid about my rebuild and wanted to watch it like a hawk I downloaded the Torque Android App, installed the Prius custom PIDs, and purchased a cheap bluetooth OBD2 from Amazon so that I can monitor the pack in real time. Far and away, the most popular HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) in the world in terms of sales is the Toyota Prius, one of the oldest and most reputable brands in the industry. An important component of coming up with the total cost of a Prius battery replacement is the “core credit” program Toyota offers. As mentioned already, the following numbers will vary, but in most cases the 2001-2003 Prius models batteries have an MSRP of $3,699, with a $1350 deduction for the core credit, not including installation labor. Up until this point in the article, we’ve explained the “standard” pricing for a Toyota Prius battery replacement, but the truth is, not all consumers experiences are the same.
Battery modules that are cycled (charged and discharged) using a specified process to increase the cell capacities that will increase energy, and in some cases, power output.  The other battery components that support the battery pack system are also checked for proper operation. Having your battery “conditioned” is just one of many services offered at your local The Hybrid Shop dealership. Holy buckets, that's a bit dumb but then again, after four years I've never needed a jump so why worry? I looked for jump points (like on the standard Prius) under the hood when I was at a dealer looking at one. I too looked for a jump point as in the other Prius and couldn't find one in either fuse box under the hood. Manual says you access the battery by removing the front panel under the rear seat and that's where you jump it.

Well, if you are forgetful it might be a good idea to install short leads to a connector so you don't have to remove the panel. If you're doing a mod, maybe the goal is to create 3x or 5x or even more battery capacity? Just imagine a Prius C with a 10 KWh battery upgrade that you can plug in and charge for under $10,000.
So let's see, 300 000 miles and about 3000$ with installation to replace a battery pack ?“The Prius is a good entry-premium car, and when this happens, we can get people to trade up to the next hybrid,” Sullivan said. Thankfully #ryousideways just finished on a a great documented write up in a thread here and a must read before you get started as I am just going to summarize my experience with pictures. Don’t believe me read another very useful thread by #YY4U on all the hurdles he had to overcome. And because there are now so many Prius Hybrids on the streets today, the need to service these vehicles grows with each new purchase. Essentially, this means you will get a “credit” for allowing your battery to be recycled—which helps the environment but also means a big deduction on your replacement bill—usually somewhere around $1350 or so. Frankly put, because of the different levels of training, education, and technology throughout the Hybrid industry, the quality and cost of the experience varies from person to person, company to company. Since our inception, our singular goal has been to elevate the entire HEV ownership experience—a process that starts with world-class training for our dealers, specifically on the process of Hybrid Battery Conditioning. Once the reason why i bought the C is because they cared about reducing weight and improving handling.
There goes all that carefully planned weight distribution work they did back in engineering! Engine rebuild is next, then the tranny, The nickel has to be extracted from the ground too, is this good for the environment?

And where I understand it can breath new life into old batteries and find other bad batteries in the process.
I am not an expert but I am comfortable working on cars and DIY around the home electrical installs. Along these same lines, because our dealer network here at The Hybrid Shop works with so many Prius vehicles, they are constantly being bombarded with a simple question: How much does it cost to replace a Toyota Prius Hybrid Battery? Just lay it on the cargo cover, and put it under the cargo cover then driving (for safety).
A *real* mod to the Prius C, and the only one worth wasting valuable money on, would be a mod that hacks the EV Mode button to allow unlimited speeds instead of 25mph, and a battery that had between 5 and 10 KWh storage. Just add on the cost of the upgrade to a refinanced car loan and you'll have a fully electric capable vehicle that also gets incredible gasoline mileage. If the battery pack in your Toyota Prius dies before the end of its 150,000 (or 100,000) mile warranty, Toyota will replace it free of charge.
Take precautions, be smart, and by no way use this as a guide on how to, just yet another helpful encouragement to tackle it yourself. It would be more practical than a Volt since the Volt barely goes 35 miles on EV Mode and only gets 35mpg when it runs out. But if your car is out of warranty, you join the 500 or so owners every month experiencing an expired nickel-metal-hydride battery pack.
I am happy to say since the install a month has passed an over 1k miles on the replaced pack.
That'd be *better* than a Volt, although with only 60hp the electric engine would certainly be slower. And it can go either way!!!Firstly:"While many of these original 2000 Priuses are still giving their owners the same gas milage they did when new, traction battery packs inside early cars are reaching the end of their predicted 10 year, 300,000 mile life."What?
To state 'about' 500 a month, I was expecting some source to back that statement but there is no such thing!Either way, the Prius is a long lasting vehicle that at some point will expire. Along the way, the Pirus will get you great mileage, never need a starter replaced, alternator, or belts (on gen II and III, not sure about gen I).
Won't need to buy expensive diesel fuel or have expensive oil changes!Yeah, the Prius is what they say it is!!!
