Mac modder Charles Mangin really did an amazing job seamlessly integrating Macs from both the 20th and 21st centuries. Thanks to improvements in miniaturization, all of the newer technology fit neatly inside the old case, leaving plenty of room to spare. He even went so far as to swap out the innards of an old Mac ADB mouse with a modern optical USB one. Now all we need is to figure out a way to cram this whole thing inside a Commodore PET, and we’ll be all set.
Very nice idea, there is something quite aesthetically pleasing about this piece of dated technology. That’s pretty cool modding up a mac plus to run Mac OSX but don’t you think maybe the sacrifices were a little extreme? It is a cool idea, but you can clearly tell that the image or Mac OS X is pasted ont the screen. Also, on the inside of the computer, you cannot see the CRT, and the superdrive is the wrong way. Power Macintosh , later Power Mac , was a line of Apple Macintosh workstation-class personal computers based on various models of PowerPC microprocessors that was developed, marketed, and supported by Apple Inc. The Power Macintosh 6100 was Apple Computer’s first computer to use the new PowerPC RISC type processor created by IBM and Motorola. The Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh was a limited-edition home computer produced by Apple Computer, Inc., in 1997 in celebration of its 20th anniversary. The iMac G3 was the first model of the iMac line of personal computers made by Apple Inc. Apple was established on April 1, 1976 by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne, to sell the Apple I personal computer kit.
Over 10-year-old Mac computers that are no longer in use still have many good potential uses. The G3 series of Mac computers like Power Mac 9600, 7300, 8600 are still very useful computers. There’s got to be something better to do with it than turn it into an aquarium, right? At first glance, the machine looks like a stock Mac Plus, but look closer and you’ll see all the detail work that Charles did, like adding a hidden Superdrive (from an iMac G5), a pair of USB ports underneath, as well as a third one tucked away behind a sliding door inside the floppy drive slot.

What brand was it and was it a new one of current standards or taken out of some older color macintosh? It was essentially a Macintosh LC II with an integrated 10″ Sony Trinitron color display with the same 512?384 pixel resolution as an LC II with the Macintosh 12” RGB monitor. While the machine is often regarded as a stylistic landmark, it was met with lukewarm sales, and was derided for its price and for championing form over function. They were hand-built by Wozniak and first shown to the public at the Homebrew Computer Club. These computers aren’t as powerful as the computers we have with us now, but we can certainly use these old computers for Word processing, Web browsing and playing small games.
The White and Blue G3 are upgradable computers and can still be used today for doing variety of jobs. The first models were the Power Macintosh 6100, 7100, and 8100, which offered speeds ranging from 60 to 110 MHz. The Power Mac went on to become the mainstay of Apple’s top-end offerings for twelve years, through a succession of case designs, four major generations of PowerPC chips, and a great deal of press coverage, design accolades, and technical controversy.
The iMac G3 is an all-in-one personal computer, encompassing both the monitor and the system unit in a single enclosure. Sure, it had radical industrial design, but it was too expensive, underpowered and hard to upgrade. The Apple I was sold as a motherboard (with CPU, RAM, and basic textual-video chips)—less than what is today considered a complete personal computer. Word processing programs like Ms Word or Claris Works are very useful for all your word processing needs. There could be many more such uses of old Mac computers, so do not throw it away when you can bring it to your use. The combination of the low-cost color Macintosh and Apple IIe compatibility was intended to encourage the education market’s transition from Apple II models to Macintoshes. These machines replaced Apple’s Quadra series of personal computers, and were housed in cases very similar to systems sold by Apple up to that point.
Originally released in striking bondi blue and later a range of other brightly colored, translucent plastic casings, the iMac shipped with a keyboard and mouse in matching tints. So, if you have an old Mac lying around in your house, don’t throw it in trash or reclyle it, use it because it still can do many things. Aesthetically, the iMac was dramatically different from any other mainstream computer ever released.

Two years later, a second line abandoned the original form factor in favor of a more conventional rectangular design. A separate monitor — with either an ADC or VGA connection — was required for the Cube, in contrast to the all-in-one iMac series. Most Mac computers come with high performance hardware and if you have an old Apple Quadra or Performa, these ones were the professional and high-end computers. On April Fool’s Day, 1976, they released the Apple I computer and started Apple Computers. You can still use them for doing a variety of jobs like making presentations, doing word processing, playing nice games, etc. A radical step was to abandon the 3?-inch diskette drive (which had been present in every Mac since the first one in 1984). If you want to have your own Web Server, why buy a new Mac, just use your Quadra or Performa, these are good enough to be a Web Server.
Many old Macs had Etherner built-in and if they didn’t, you can buy and install an Ethernet card from a Mac store and install on about any old Mac.
Networking can be done through Ethernet or a SCSI port, so you have options for your networking needs in old Macs. The system incorporated some economical components, including the 6502 processor (designed by Rockwell and produced by MOS Technologies) and dynamic RAM.
There are many applications available that let you create a network between a Mac and a PC.
Although the USB amplifier had a standard mini-plug headphone output, it lacked any audio input. Old portable Macs can also be very useful especially if they have a wireless card installed.
The Cube also used a silent, fanless, convection-based cooling system like the iMacs of the time. You can buy an external wireless device to make your old Mac wireless for basic Web browsing and networking.
