The Getz is Hyundai?s first attempt at a supermini- sized rival to the likes of Fiesta, Corsa and Polo.
We generally approved of the driving position and especially liked the twin (front and rear) cushion height adjustment on our CDX.
There?s something pleasantly old-fashioned about the Hyundai mentality - for example, you get an alloy spare wheel under the load mat, the speedo is invariably well-nigh accurate, and the handbook contains copious information about how to check this and that; indeed, its strictures about what to check under-bonnet everyday before venturing forth, is enough to deter the faint-hearted! The Getz if a fully featured, properly fettled supermini that, ten years ago, would have had the motor industry big boys rushing to their drawing boards. Clear, accurate dials and sensible stalks for wipers and lights; fiddly, miniscule radio buttons, however, and left footrest set too close. Steering not especially light, but quite precise on smooth roads, with good cornering attitude. Front seat support (but not rear) makes up for the restless suspension and at lower speeds, Getz deports itself well.
Our carefully metered results well short of "official" figures - extra weight (for safety) is probably a contributor. Good rear kneeroom, but overall not so generous as longer superminis and no sliding back seat, either.
The Hyundai Getz (also sold as the Hyundai Click or Hyundai TB) is a supermini car produced by the Hyundai Motor Company, sold in most of the world but not the US or Canada.
A facelift for the 2006 model saw the Getz receiving a 4 cylinder 1.5 litre diesel option, upgraded dash and interior fascia and trim, new front and rear styling, driver and front passenger air bags. The Hyundai Getz is Hyundai’s biggest selling car in the UK and Europe shifting 270,000 since its launch in 2002. Hyundai bill the Korean supermini as a fresh and dynamic motor offering safety, comfort and convenience.
The Getz is quite a conservative looking supermini lagging behind the more contemporary Renault Clio and Citroen C2. While there was a fair bit of plastic inside the Getz, it felt fairly sturdy and the engine and gearbox havena€™t got a record for reliability problems.

Hyundai has fitted the Getz with front and side airbags as standard on the CDX and CDX+, but not on the entry level GSI models, while the front passenger a€?bag can be deactivated if being used as a child seat.
Our top-of-the-range CDX+ boasted air-conditioning, electric, heated mirrors, electric windows, CD player and a useful trip computer, but base models also boast air-con and electric windows. The electric Getz has a top speed of 120kph with a range of 120km on a single charge with a fast charge extending the range for a day’s running to approximately 200km. In a New Zealand first Hyundai has announced today that it will be the first automotive manufacturer to offer new electric cars for sale in New Zealand, and to further enhance that announcement, it will be off the back of local manufacturing.
The move will create a lot of interest within political parties and government agencies, as the governments Transport Strategy 2008 states that New Zealand should become one of the first countries in the world to widely use electric vehicles.
The project is in collaboration with engineer, Ross Blade who developed the Getz retro-fit electric car. Computer Gaming Concept Behind Nissan's Mixim Electric CarPowered by advanced lithium-ion batteries and two 67bhp (50kW) electric motors to drive the front and rear axles, the Mixim is a four-wheel-drive car with a theoretical top speed of 112mph and a potential maximum range of 156 miles. Do Trio of Concept Cars Presage Greener Future At Chrysler?Dodge ZEO is 2+2 electric muscle car for the 21st century powered by 200kW electric drive with 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and range of 250 miles. Air Car Launch 'Just Around the Corner'The Air Car may do better than fuel-cell cars, but experts say that using grid power to charge a battery-powered electric vehicle is much more efficient than using electricity to compress and store the same amount of energy in a tank.
In fact, it?s a bit shorter than some of the latest rival entrants, but it shares their tendency to be taller than was customary a few years ago.
Yet there?s no denying that this CDX is excellent value, if you want all the features on offer.
Ita€™s not that curvy, but ita€™s not that boxy either and Hyundai has tried to make it sportier by fitting a rear spoiler and laying more emphasis on the grille, headlights and front bumper.
The CD player looks so Eighties ita€™s almost retro, but is easy to use and pretty good quality. Inside there is plenty of room for people in the front and while there are three seats in the back, wea€™d only recommend seating two occupants. While this makes driving on the motorway at 70mph a pleasant ride as the springs soak up the bumps, it means a compromise on cornering. This accelerates the Korean motor from 0-62mph (100kph) in 11.1 seconds and on to a top speed of 112mph.

The supermini also comes with anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution as standard. As an electric car the Getz will have zero emissions and will be the first electric car available in New Zealand in any volume. This makes it a fantastic vehicle for running around town being small, easy to park and of course having absolutely no emissions.
He will be setting up a production facility based around a projected sales base of 200 plus vehicles per annum. However, the mediocrity comes with keen pricing and low-risk ownership for at least 5 years; now that?s artful! Our model featured sporty 14-inch alloy wheels, which come as standard on all CDX and CDX+ models. A metallic silver finish frames the centre console with, again, easy to understand heating and air-conditioning buttons.
The boota€™s volume is 288 litres with the seats up, which is around the same as rivals the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. While this doesna€™t seem quick, as the maximum pull is delivered between 1,900 and 2,750rpm the Getz is great for city driving and overtaking. But as with all Hyundais, the Getz comes with an unprecedented five-year fully transferable, unlimited warranty, so if anything goes wrong youa€™ll be covered. But while ita€™s a competent car, it lacks the panache of its European rivals such as the Renault Clio and Citroen C2. The Getz is a retro-fit electric car, meaning that the batteries and electric motor are fitted to the car after the petrol engine is taken out. The Getza€™s instrument panel is clear and the trip computer (only available on CDX models) is a helpful tool. Fold the seats down and the capacity increases to 987 litres, which is larger than the Fiesta (947 litres) but smaller than the Corsa (1,100 litres).
