In many cases, ignition problems can be fixed by cleaning battery corrosion from terminals and clamps, which couldn't be simpler.
Remove the Battery Cables To start cleaning battery corrosion, first remove the battery cables from the terminal.

No matter how tight you get your connections, they will eventually loosen due to the expansion and contraction which occurs through use.  This looseness or corrosion causes resistance and a byproduct of electrical resistance is heat, which leads to melting.

The voltage drop will reduce voltage to the point where the solenoid engages, but can’t power the starter. That may cause enough vibration or movement to get you a good enough connection to turn the starter.
