In Consumer Reports annual April Auto Issue, all products are tested in Consumer Reports state-of-the-art research facility and all cars undergo numerous non-biased ratings and reviews.  Consumer Reports provides independent , unbiased reviews on over 280 models.
Jake Fisher, Director of Auto Testing for Consumer Reports, and Rik Paul, Consumer Reports Auto Editor, presented the non-biased and independent findings to an eager audience of Washington Automotive Press Association (WAPA) members, various well-known media outlets, and reps from most of the leading automakers. Honda Accord (Midsized Sedan) – Consumer Report’s really felt that Honda “nailed it” with the redesign of the Honda Accord. Subaru Impreza (Compact Car) – The Subaru Impreza won the Compact Car category last year and now takes the “Top Pick” title this year too. Hyundai Elantra (Budget Car) – This one of the Consumer Report’s top rated compact sedans and it is clear why.
Toyota Prius (Green Car) – The Toyota Prius can’t seem to be dethroned from winning this category. Audi A6 (Luxury Car) – This comes as a bit of surprise since Audi has not had a car be named a “Top Pick” be Consumer Report’s in over 10 years. BMW 328i (Sports Sedan) – The BMW 328i edged out the Infiniti G37 which took the Sports Sedan category for 4 years. Honda CR-V (Small SUV) – A smooth ride, responsive powertrain, excellent fuel economy, a great ride, roomy interior, standard backup camera, and Honda reliability make the Honda CR-V a Top Pick. Toyota Highlander (Midsized SUV) – The Toyota Highlander returns for 2013 as it won this category last year. Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ (Sports Car) – These twin sisters might have different names but are the same car underneath. Noticeably absent on the Consumer Reports Top Picks list were vehicles from domestic automakers, which means Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors (GM). Rik Paul commented he had been recently driving the Ford Fusion and really liked it but said that it does depend on a someone’s priorities. Jake Fisher reply to my question was that he really enjoyed the VW Golf TDI since it is a lot of fun-to-drive.
HyundaiLos Angeles Auto Show2017 Hyundai Elantra Debuts at LA ShowNov 21 2015 Aaron Turpen 0 Hyundai unveiled the new 2017 Elantra at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week. According to Consumer Reports’ 2015 Annual Auto Reliability Survey, Kia and Hyundai show strong improvement on providing reliable vehicles for today’s customers. Two areas that gave most manufacturers issues for this survey are infotainment systems and new transmissions.
The other problem is with the latest technology and innovations for transmissions, especially those with more speeds, such as the eight- and nine-speed transmissions.
Congratulations goes to Kia for moving up in the ratings with new models that perform well for customers. Considering how it’s been shaking up the automotive world with some of its evaluations lately, Consumer Reports made some relatively predictable selections in its Annual Top Picks list of the best-quality vehicles today, ranging from the aluminum-based Ford F-150 pickup truck to the greatly redesigned new Lexus RX mid-size SUV.
Audi surged to the very top of Consumer Reports‘ list of top brands, adding yet another feather to the cap of the Volkswagen-owned luxury brand that has vaulted into the same consideration set as its much larger German rivals Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
Audi and Subaru scored the highest in Consumer Reports' annual ranking of auto brands, while Jeep and Fiat finished last among the 30 listed carmakers. The report, which evaluated brands on their vehicles' aggregated road test results, reliability estimates, safety features and owner satisfaction ratings, found that companies with mature, incrementally updated models tended to fare best.
Audi topped the rankings despite the ongoing diesel emissions scandal plaguing parent company Volkswagen.

Consumer Reports said that the report only included vehicles that the publication tested and were on the market — which excluded diesel Audi and VW vehicles pulled from lots late last year due to the installation of emissions-cheating software. Japanese automaker Subaru finished second in the 2016 rankings, followed by Audi's fellow luxury labels Lexus, Porsche — another VW brand — and BMW. General Motors' Buick was the only American brand to finish in the top half of the rankings. Dodge and Chrysler came in at 25th and 26th, while fellow FCA brand Jeep came in second-last.
Consumer Reports’ ratings also required brands to feature at least two models with testing and reliability data, which excluded evaluations of several labels, including Jaguar and Tesla. Accounts are penalized for Community Guidelines violations and serious or repeated violations can lead to account termination. They presented their findings on vehicle and quality rankings on a wide range of automakers and vehicles. The reliability, roominess, comfort, reasonable pricing, and fuel efficiency all helped the Honda Accord earn high marks and a Top Pick this year.
Consumer Report’s noted that both the sedan and hatchback are great values and have great features.
It has been named a Consumer Report’s “Top Pick” 12 times before and this now this is the 10th consecutive year it has won a Top Pick.
The Audi A6 received good marks for having a stunning supercharged V6 engine, smooth 8-speed automatic transmission, and a ride you would expect from a German automobile. Consumer Report’s notes that it has the practicality of an SUV with the refinement of a great sedan.
That’s probably because you can’t get anything better than a minivan for a family hauler!
The super-sharp handling, fabulous braking, a powerful engine, and Rear-Wheel-Drive (RWD) make this a true driver’s car. The vehicles must rank at or near the top of the vehicle category and earn above average reliability grades.
Honda seems to have adjusted quickly though and has come back into the ring fighting strong earning 3 Top Picks for 2013. Jake Fisher commented during his presentation that while domestic automakers have made significant strides and impressive improvements to their vehicle lineups over the past couple years, they still have quite a long way to go. Notably the Ford Fusion scored just below the Honda Accord in Consumer Reports Annual Auto Issue this year. He did mentioned that it would of course have to be a stick-shift, like any auto enthusiast would want.
The cars that Consumer Reports uses in testing are not given to them by the automakers as press fleet vehicles, like most auto publications get them. Part of the issue is that technology changes at such a fast pace for small devices such as smartphones and tablets, and it follows behind at a much slower rate for automobiles.
If you’re looking to purchase a new Kia model, you can discover the latest features and technology at West Coast Kia.
Volkswagen finished 15th, just behind Mercedes-Benz, which suffered due to lower reliability ratings. Ford and its luxury Lincoln brand came in at 16th and 17th, respectively, while GM’s Chevrolet, GMC and Cadillac finished at 20th or lower. Consumer Reports said that Chrysler, Honda and Nissan were each hurt by problems with their new transmissions.

This includes nimble handling, a compliant and absorbent ride which the editors note rivals luxury sedans.
The Hyundai Elantra is more roomy, provides decent handling, a comfortable ride, smooth powertrain, a nice interior with good fit and finish.
The editors noted that it is hard to beat the fuel economy, hatchback versatility, practicality, affordability, and value the Toyota Prius offers consumers. The Toyota Highlander provides a quiet cushy ride along with secure handling and a smooth powertrain. Reliability data is calculated from the Consumer Report’s survey that non-profit organization send out every year to subscribers. Japanese, German, other automakers are also improving their lineups making it somewhat difficult to compete and catch-up so to speak with the competition’s quality and reliability. This report provides an indication of how reliable a new car purchased today would be based on three previous three models.
Drivers want their infotainment products on vehicles to be as intuitive and advanced as what they find on their smartphones.
That is why Consumer Reports has been a mainstay in buying guides since 1936, keeping readers informed on the best products, from cars to tools and appliances. Along with impressive fuel economy for an All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) car the Subaru Impreza is hard to beat. Environmentalists and liberals can rejoice and can continue to feel proud of the beloved Toyota Prius.
The redesigned BMW 328i is roomier, more luxurious, and has better fuel efficiency with the 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. Rik Paul noted that is provides a rear backup camera as standard which Consumre Report’s that was an essential safety feature around a car that is going to have small children around it. It is also nice to see the Audi A6 and BMW 328i earn Top Pick selections, but it will remain to be seen whether they can retain the title next year.
Rik Paul did mention to me that he changes his mind every other week since he gets to test drive so many different cars.
They go through an extremely comprehensive testing procedures and all ratings are non-biased.
Each issue offers useful and detailed reviews that are broken down into dozens of categories, such as electronics, home and yard, fitness and cars.
Vehicles should also perform adequately in testing conducted by the government or insurance industry.
Sections are then further broken down into subcategories, such as "best in fuel economy" for cars, or "best TV brands" for electronics.
