Most of today’s smartphone batteries use lithium polymer technology, and their capacity is measured in milliamp hours (mAh). Constant current mode continues until your phone reaches about 70%, and then it switches into a constant voltage mode. And if used frequently, the fast-charging constant current phase can actually reduce your battery’s capacity more quickly. This week we're having a look at a set of new Nokia devices, one of the most instantly appealing being the universal NFC Wireless Car Charger. At the bottom of this holder you'll notice a little space, this being open so that your smartphone's microUSB can be accessed for a more traditional charging experience. This device is made for the Lumia lineup and will be sold with Nokia device in mind, and you'll want to head to the store to test it out before you assume it'll work perfectly with your wireless charging-capable device.
You can find a whole lot more Nokia news from this week in our lovely Nokia tag portal right this minute if you like.
Back in December of last year, we wrote about a simple method to add wireless charging to your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.
Even still, wireless charging is a bit more convenient than having to plug your phone in every time it needs to be charged, so I decided to give it a shot. First, I purchased a Qi-compatible wireless charging receiver card on eBay, just like this one.
As it turns out though, the wireless charging works well through a thin case like the Alto case pictured above. Of course it’s important to note that if anything goes wrong, you may void your iPhone warranty by using unauthorized accessories.

Imagine never again having that frantic feeling that your smartphone battery is about to die.
If amps represent the pipe size, volts act like the water pressure, pushing electrons along.
For instance, after 200 charge cycles (a cycle is the cumulative equivalent of bringing a battery from 0 to 100%, or charging your half-dead phone twice, for instance), your smartphone battery will only have 95% of its original capacity left. That’s because car batteries suffer from the same discharge problems that smartphone batteries do, just on a much different level.

This device is made to work with the Lumia lineup of Nokia devices first and foremost, of course, working with Qi standard wireless charging as well as embedded NFC to tell your device it's docked. Of course your device will need to have a centered microUSB port for this to happen, but still - that's rather nice of them to think of this, yes? If you only want it for NFC and the port at the bottom for ease in holding whilst charging, you're in luck! You should also head straight into our Mobile World Congress 2013 portal while you're at it - we'll be here through the rest of the week as well!
We saw the early stages of the future of wireless charging technology unveiled earlier this year at CES 2015 when a company called Energous showed off tech that can charge gadgets from across the room.
In the meantime, however, you’ll be surprised at just how easy and inexpensive it is to add modern wireless charging support to an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus. It won’t charge your phone from across the room, of course, since currently available wireless charging technology requires target devices to be within a few millimeters of the charging pad. As can be seen in the photo at the top of this post, the receiver card plugs into the Lightning port on your iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and then folds over to the back of the phone. It’s also reasonably fast, though not quite as quick as the iPad charger I normally use. That plastic can be cut off, however, and it really doesn’t look bad at all as long as you have a case on to cover it.
If you really want to add wireless charging to your iPhone though, this is definitely the fastest, cheapest and easiest way to do it.
Market indices are shown in real time, except for the DJIA, which is delayed by two minutes. The first phase is the pre-charge, which occurs if you deplete a battery all the way to 0%.
If you have a good charger, it can fill your battery’s capacity very quickly, drawing in power at higher currents.
If your car battery is old and only holds a 2% resting charge (which is unlikely, but possible), your phone could easily kill your car. When you do dock a device like the wireless charging-shell CC-3068-toting Lumia 720, you've got wireless charging, NFC-activated car mode, and a fully secure clamped-in setup. Charging power comes from a lighter plug that's also got an extra USB port on its back - from there you'll be able to output power galore once more. Unfortunately there are not details regarding pricing or a release date as of yet - you'll just have to wait! The card is loose in the image above, but it has some adhesive on the back that holds it in place.

This pipe helps electrons flow from one part of the circuit (in this case, the power source, like the cigarette port in your car) to another (the battery in your phone). This is the slowest part of recharging your battery because the device had to shut itself completely off so the battery wouldn’t sustain any damage. Other vehicles might have an always-on port, an option that automakers are increasingly adding to their models. This lovely beast also has several features that allow you to use it with whatever smartphone you like. If you begin charging your battery at this stage, it will only get a trickle of electrical power. Ultimately, with all the variables at play, there’s no universal answer to this question. A receiver on your phone then converts that radio energy into DC power that can charge the battery.
Chicago Mercantile Association: Certain market data is the property of Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. But you need to keep your phone on the pad in order to charge it, making it only slightly more convenient and aesthetically pleasing than plugging it into the wall.
The company demonstrated the technology at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, winning two "Best in Show" awards and three other honors.
And up to 15 feet, your battery will charge at a "trickle." But what makes Energous particularly compelling is that it claims to have signed a commitment with a "top tier" tech company that will build the wireless receivers right into the gadgets themselves (no case needed). Unlike Energous, which requires a special transmitter to send energy to your phone, Nikola Labs' smartphone cases harness and recycle the unused energy your phone creates by searching for cell towers and Wi-Fi routers. But get close enough to a Wi-Fi router, and your phone will start charging similar to the way that Energous' transmitters operate.
And the impact universal wireless charging could have on the wearables market could be game-changing.
If they could charge while you're wearing them, you'd be able to treat your fitness band or smartwatch just like a regular wristwatch.
