While bigger updates may add more features, small updates like this can bring as many bugs as they fix. The phone app is not crashing when I make a successful call, and most times the dialer works fine, just not 100% of the time.
If you are rooted or spent time using custom ROMS you may want to install this from scratch or look for the right ROM or update file to use before proceeding.
I have a Nexus 4 as my primary phone, it was working perfectly finw before I updated it to Kitkat.
Google’s Nexus project has been a success since its inception in 2010 largely due to the high quality and low prices of their devices.
Nexus phones and tablets are equipped with the same hardware found in most high-end devices and were initially manufactured to be used as Android-developer phones. While developers can use consumer devices to test and use their apps, unlocked and no-contract phones offer a huge incentive. I was one of the first people to order the Nexus 5 from Google Play and have had my hands on this device for over a week now. In an era where smartphones are getting more complicated, it’s nice to see Google take a different approach and simplify things.
The Nexus 5 is equipped with an 8MP rear-facing camera with Optical Image Stabilization and is complimented nicely with a 1.3MP front-facing camera. Features such as Auto Awesome, Photo Sphere and HDR+ really take your photography to the next level. Google has taken notice at the negative reviews and has declared a fix coming soon for the camera. Smartphone cameras have advanced significantly in recent years but they still can’t replace traditional point-and-shoot cameras. Because Nexus devices are Google flagships, they will always be the first to receive the latest Android updates. My only complaint about KitKat is that the stock messaging app is now embedded into Hangouts. A removable battery would have been a nice option for this device but Google clearly had to cut some corners in order to keep the price point down. The Nexus 5 is being compared to a lot of high-end devices like the iPhone 5, Galaxy S4, and HTC One.
I would recommend this phone for anyone on a budget and especially for those that like to tweak their devices.

The photos are my screenshots with GPS, WiFi, and location history on all day with Google Now enabled. But like is the case with many updates, the new build doesn't always end up bringing about benefits and improvements. The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 are apparently being plagued by the most issues, but the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 aren't immune either.
Almost like clockwork, every year around this time, Google (GOOG) introduces a new version of the company’s flagship smartphone, the Nexus.
Looking at the Nexus 4… you know what, picking up the Nexus 4, you can tell this is a quality device just like the LG Optimus G we recently reviewed. There isn’t a touch sensitivity issue per se, but Android is still lacking in that department compared to iOS. As a flagship phone, you’d expect Google and its partner to try to offer the best experience possible for every feature on the phone.
Besides the camera and the usual lack of polish in, well, everything, I really do like this phone. Not completely necessary a year ago, LTE is now standard in any mid- to high-end smartphone. One important factor in countering that, however, is that the Google Nexus 4 can be purchased for a mind-blowing $299 for the 8GB model… without a contract.

Aside from some very irritating shortcomings, the Nexus 4 is my favorite Android device in the world. Sitting at airport, portfolio brexit'd, social media mgr next to me talking social media strategy for past 20 min. One other thing I noticed is that the wifi indicator is going out then the signal graph indicates LTE comes on then the wifi comes back on.
After deleting the shortcut from my home screen I could add a new one and it works to open the app. First the dialer can sometimes crash right after you start to call someone, ending the call and forcing you to start over. Some users report the camera app crashes after taking 10 photos, but during my time testing the app I did not experience a crash even when shooting 15 photos, viewing them and then going back to taking more photos.
Now it as battery problems, mobile data problems, 3G problems and sometimes it randomly just shuts down, and will not reboot unless connected to charger even though when i open it the battery life is 50 or 60%. But 1 problem i found is with camera i can’t take pic of some notes it just blur all fonts and other things look fine.
However, due to the increased popularity of having a SIM- and bootloader-unlocked phone, Google has taken the Nexus series mainstream in recent years. Coming from an iPhone, this phone was a much-needed upgrade to my mobile life and has solidified my belief that the Android operating system is the way to go for mobile devices. The soft matte back feels comfortable in your hand and the ceramic power and volume buttons are easy to use. The black Nexus 5 reminds me of Darth Vader and the white one reminds me of a Stormtrooper. The camera also excels in low-light situations and despite some negative reviews, it’s one of the best smartphone cameras available today. Representatives from Android have also stated that the camera may have issues due to software performance and are already working on remedying people’s complaints. This new OS has stripped a lot of the fat that was first introduced in Honeycomb 3.0 and is more sleek. If you’re the type of smartphone user that enjoys being the first in line, this is the phone for you. While I don’t necessarily dislike using Hangouts, there are several problems with the app. Google Play Music, Spotify, TuneIn and Stitcher have showed no signs of lag and I’m able to stream audio for most of the day before requiring a recharge. The Nexus 5 has no bloatware and will always be the first in a long line of gadgets to receive Android updates. In other words, these services were on before the update, and that's what limiting battery life? All it does is provide your location to apps (esp Google ones) while the phone is in standby. And as AndroidOrigin reports, users of the tablet who have installed the new update have already started complaining about bugs and issues. According to owners who have updated to the latest build, the tablets now suffer from battery drain issues and notification malfunctions.
When you power the Nexus 4 on, you’re greeted with the best screen that I have ever seen on an Android phone. But that’s not anything new, so enjoy your 32oz sugary screens until Bloomberg bans them. Apparently Google doesn’t care about the camera experience or photos as it is all just a bag of sadness mixed with confusing circles and pop ups. The battery is great, the phone is insanely fast, it’s reasonably thin, feels great to hold and use, and the screen is beautiful. I got my Nexus 5 exactly one week ago and was getting a full day with decent use throughout.
This is running on the AT&T network, but as it is from the Google Play Store the experience should be similar for users with other carriers.
The installation process took a little time, especially when it came to updating apps, but overall it is very smooth. When tapping on a shortcut, the Nexus 4 would not open the apps, showing an error that the app is not installed. The cellular connection on AT&T also works as it did before the update, with no issues at this time. When I first got the tablet in December of 2012, it was fairly unstable and lots of apps didn’t work too well. I really need this fixed because i think this may physically damage my battery if it hasn’t already been damaged. The phone has similar hardware to that of the LG G2 including the same Snapdragon 800 processor and 5in.1080p display. I won’t go into detail at how I reached this conclusion but will explain what makes the Nexus 5 so special.

Google is making sure this phone is all about Android and not fancy features that are likely not going to last. One of the biggest complaints from Nexus 5 owners is the image quality of the camera but I found it to be acceptable in most lighting situations. People that want a DSLR-type camera on their smartphone should look into the Lumia 1020 that features a 41MP camera. There is no timetable as to when the update will roll through but it should improve the image quality by at least a little bit. However, that didn’t stop Google from releasing a Nexus 5 commercial that promotes the device as a picture-taking machine. The Nexus 5 showcases the full functionality of KitKat in a way that will not be rivaled by any other Android device. Streaming video and running image-intensive apps drain the battery extremely fast and unless you carry a charger with you, you will have to recharge the Nexus 5 at least once a day. The sound quality is not as impressive as I hoped due to there being only one speaker despite two speaker grills (the other one is actually a microphone). Instead I would like to consider these as being affordable gadgets for consumers that want most (not all) of the bells and whistles they could get for spending twice the amount of money. Most mobile phone companies that offer phones at those prices lock you into a two-year contract with early termination fees.
But when you factor in the specs it has and the price you pay, it is definitely the best phone for your pound. I tried restarting, reflashing the ROM after clearing data and batt stats ( I was desperate) and none of that worked. Its supposed to save battery over using GPS for the location, and it might, but its not nessary and turning it off will save you battery in standby. These phones always try to set the bar for the Android ecosystem, but funnily enough, I have never found that to be the case in the past.
Seriously, it is nearly impossible to figure out what you’re doing when you are taking a photo. Now just keeping it on for a bit drains a few percent and I'm already down to %60 today and this was after the update.
It turned on the screen while I was on a call and my cheek hit the end button, hanging up on the call. I now have things working good on the tablet and am glad we finally got to that update, Hopefully will get that on my Samsung Note 2 phone soon.
The key difference between the Nexus and the G2 is essentially the price difference with the Nexus costing about half as much. Although the image quality is acceptable (in my opinion), I would still use a regular camera to capture those important moments I want to remember in my life.
I find myself typing less when searching on Google and I expect Google Now to add more functionality in future updates.
If you’re fortunate enough to work at a desk during the day this will not be a problem. Depending on how strong your LTE or Wi-Fi signal is, you also won’t experience any delays when streaming video.
But the sound quality is exmobileent with headphones, especially when the EQ is enabled in Google Play Music. Google, however, has basically eliminated that option if you decide to purchase the Nexus 5 from them. I thought it might be some battery sparing technique, but I am thinking it is kind of weird.
Every application I tested was seamless and looked great on the large screen with minimal bezel. The OS also uses less memory than previous versions and is expected to work on many older devices. But if you’re a commuter who uses their smartphone while in route, the Nexus 5 may not be the phone for you. And as the KitKat updates keep trickling down, you can only assume the Nexus 5 will only get better with time. I went to the battery use and the systemui and keyboard were using a ton of the battery so I tried using swiftkey to see if there was a difference and there wasn't. Since I'm not exactly a Nexus expert, I hope there's nothing I'm missing out on by having these service off. I have battery doctor installed so I checked through that and that's telling me the system ui, avast security and both keyboard are consuming a lot.
