Young women drivers are particularly worse off because of new gender rules that mean male and female car insurance premiums are being brought into line.
The AA carried out a series of quotes across various insurance companies and insurance comparison sites, and found that occupation as well as age can have a significant bearing on your insurance costs.

An AA spokesman said: “The gender directive doesn’t mean that young male drivers are any less likely to suffer collisions.
If you’re a young driver, one way to dramatically decrease the cost of your insurance is to install a ‘black box’ into your car, such as that provided by AA Drivesafe, that measures speed, cornering, acceleration and braking. Young men represent just 8% of all drivers, yet still account for 23% of all those killed or seriously injured on Britain’s roads.
