EI or employment insurance is a federal initiative meant for people who are out of work and currently looking for work but need temporary financial assistance. 1) Regular Employment Insurance Benefits are used when a person becomes unemployed by no fault of their own (i.e.
2) Maternal and Paternal Employment Insurance Benefits are for individuals who are pregnant, recently given birth, have adopted a child, or are caring for a newborn child. 3) Sickness Employment Insurance Benefits are utilized when an individual is unable to work due to an illness, sickness, or quarantine. 4) Compassionate Care Employment Insurance Benefits, this type of EI benefits applies to individuals who need to be away from work temporarily in order to care for a family member who is gravely sick and is at significant risk of dying.
Make sure you find out what other benefits are available for both the gravely ill person as well as their family. 5) Fishing Employment Insurance Benefits are extended to qualifying self-employed fishers who are actively seeking work but have not found any.
1)     Even if your employer has not issued your Record Of Employment (ROE) you should apply as soon as possible because the process takes about 28 days after the application and all corresponding documents are received.
3)     If you are applying for EI as a self-employed individual and thus do not have an employer to supply you with an ROE there are specific steps you’ll need to take which differ from the traditional EI application.

4)     You can apply via phone, online, or at a Service Canada Centre near you for any type of EI benefits. 5)     If you are a military family needing to pause or extend your EI benefits there are important steps you’ll need to take in a short period of time. EI benefits are committed to providing people with 55% of their average income for a period of 14-45 weeks up to a maximum of $47,700; an updated  as of January 1, 2013. A family member can be both your direct family and the family of your spouse and common law partner. A self-employed person engaged in fishing may be eligible to receive EI if they are not obtaining any earnings from fishing. If your application is submitted without your ROE request that your employer sends it electronically and directly to Service Canada. If you have started a claim within the last 52 weeks and there are still payable hours left on that claim you can opt to have the claim renewed rather than start another one and avoid the two week waiting period.
Throughout the period an individual has been approved for to collect EI benefits they must submit online reports outlining their efforts to obtain employment on the Service Canada website or by telephone at 1-800-531-7555 in order to continue to qualify for EI benefits. I have a regular full time job doing construction and am unable to perform my regular duties.

You can be compensated for up to 6 weeks if the ill family member is at risk of death within the next 26 weeks. Eligibility also depends on the amount of money the self-employed individual made from fishing during the qualifying period, which is different than the labour force attachment period. There could be advantages such as an increase in eligible pay if you start a new EI claim so make sure that you get all the details. If you are currently unemployed and collecting EI you can also apply for compassionate care benefits. If your employer supplies paper ROEs it is your responsibility to request copies of any and all other ROEs issued to you in the last 52 weeks and drop them off to the Service Canada Centre. It typically takes an hour to complete an EI application online and you will need your standard personal information, your work history, and your banking information which is needed for direct deposit purposes.
