I was interviewing a large national chain recently, and they mentioned to me that their trainers receive a national certification after attending a 2 day training. When I have hired people with limited experience, I have a 6 month on-boarding program to bring them up to speed.
I do understand that there are a few cases where new trainers are absolutely amazing, however we are not talking about them.
