The Kettler Cross P elliptical cross trainer is a good choice for all those who are expecting their cross trainer to deliver quiet action and balanced motion, which comes from the 14kg (30.8lbs) flywheel.

It is an exercise equipment that combine the movements of the stair climber, treadmill, and the exercise bike into one.
Depending on the intensity, you may burn more calorieswith the elliptical trainer compared with the treadmill or the exercise bike. If you choose an elliptical trainer with dual action handle bars, you can actually get a true cross training workout that uses your whole body, including your upper body. For those who want to work out your lower legs, the elliptical trainer uses all of the muscles of the lower leg. Another great thing about the elliptical trainer is that you can move at a comfortable speed while allowing for the occasional burst of high intensities. For those who are overweight or who has chronic knee problem, I highly recommend cross trainer.
If you want to shop for one, check out the review of some of the Elliptical Trainers at Amazon.
I have lower back pain and looking for a machine to get fit and strenghen my back, can the Cross-Trainer help me. Using a elliptical is the only exercise machine that I now use, I have great problems with my knees and this is the only type of machine that will not cause me great pain. I even use them for HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) as adjusting speed levels between sprints is made a whole lot easier. As mentioned by you and many, this machine helps those on recovery path and those with injuries (& the risks). I injured my knee about a year ago and found that a elliptical is the easiest and least painful of exercise that I can do. I must admit a cross trainer takes less space as compared to a treadmill, and is definitely more fun to do than a stationary bike. The biggest benefit of an Elliptical trainer is the time you can save by using this machine. Like most things choosing a cross trainer is down to personal preference but here are a few guidelines to help anyone new to working out on an elliptical.
So if you are thinking of buying a piece of fitness equipment take a look at our range of elliptical exercise machines. This site uses cookies to deliver its services, personalise content and analyse our traffic. The York x400 cross trainer marks York’s entry into the high spec front wheel drive cross trainer market. The first thing your reviewer noticed was the distance off the ground when using this machine.
One of the many nice touches on this cross trainer is the buttons on the top of the swinging handlebars.

Renowned for innovation, Nordic Track fitness equipment always has much to offer on the features front, and the E4.2 elliptical is no different. I found the machine offered a really smooth action too, making this very comfortable indeed. For the space conscious, this elliptical comes in at a very reasonable 133cm length and although not foldable, can be moved pretty easily with the transport wheels.
The only slight quibble is that the stride pattern has been designed to cater for both a flat and an incline position so when the incline is not raised there is more of a vertical bounce than you will find on the comparable models in this class like the Kettler Elyx 1 or the Vision X1500 although neither of those models can hold a candle to the E7.2 when it comes to console features.
For the space conscious, this elliptical comes in at a very reasonable 175cm length and although not foldable, can be moved pretty easily with the aid of the rear handle and transport wheels. Not quite the level of build quality you would find on the alternative models in this class.
For the most part, choosing a more compact cross trainer like the NordicTrack E9 ZL means compromising on the stride length. This is a pretty substantial machine weighing in at 68kg with a maximum user weight to match, (150kg or 23.5 stone). The warranty covers the frame for 5 years and 12 months parts and labour for the remainder although Nordic track will upgrade this to 2 years for free if  the product is registered within 28 days of purchase.
In summary then, the E9ZL is a lot of elliptical for your money.  If space and budget are your primary consideration then there aren’t many, if any alternatives at this price that will give you so much specification.
The BFCT1 Elliptical Cross Trainer provides a non-impact cardio workout in a very compact space.
This product can also be delivered to certain areas outside the continental United States for a shipping fee.

Out of the many cross trainers we have tried over the years the CG800 has one of the smoothest elliptical actions.
Spirit Fitness CE800 Club Series Elliptical - full commercial grade elliptical crosstrainer, 20in stride, self-generating (no mains needed), heavy duty, 40 resistance levels, smooth precise elliptical action. Enjoy i.Concept by BH technology and use your smartphone or table like a touchscreen of your fitness machine. Equipped with a self-generated electromagnetic brake system that guarantees maximum performance for intensive and continuous use.
The LK8150 enables a free and more athletic stride thanks to its front drive system with which the user can enjoy a tougher, more intense workout. Landice have applied their design and engineering skills to produce heavy duty high quality cross trainers in the same vein as their treadmills. Same incomparable build quality coupled with their top-end state of the art computer console.
Elliptical Cross Trainer The elliptical cross trainer provides an excellent full-body cardiovascular work-out. It helps to improve co-ordination and balance while providing low impact exercise for legs and arms. The Kettler UNIX P Elliptical cross trainer is the latest addition to the Kettler elliptical cross trainer range. Your heart rate can be easily measured thanks to the hand pulse sensors or using a chest strap (optional) with the built-in Polar compatible wireless receiver. It provides the similar type of workout as jogging but without the wear and tear on your joints. The actual workout feels like a brisk walk even though you are exerting as much effort as a good run.

The amount of resistance on an elliptical trainer will determine how much effort it will take for you to keep your feet moving.
It does less harm to your knees and I am sure you will like it.I have been using this machine since two years ago and I have no complaint about it so far. I never use to like the elliptical exercise machine all these years in the gym and very very rarely I use it. Pump it up to level 12 at min and keep your RPMS above 100 and you’ll be burning up those calories like nobodies business!
I figured that instead of paying out for another years worth of gym membership fees I could buy myself one instead. I’ve found your site via Google and I’m really glad about the information you provide in your articles. I broke my hip 9 months ago, and as a result my knees are also wrecked because of muscle problems in my quads. There are many people who lead extremely busy lives and do not have a great deal of free time to spend exercising and keep their body in good health. These space saving fitness machines can give you a brilliant workout without ever having to leave the comfort of your home. Some fitness trainers suggest there are advantages buying a rear driven cross trainer mainly the stride length being longer making for a more flexible workout.
You will find a wide selection at all price levels including modern designs fully equipped with high tech features as well cheaper versions too. The X400 cross trainer is part of their Diamond series elliptical trainers in the York range and really delivers in terms of features, build quality and performance.
Thanks for the combination of heavyweight components used and the double rollers on each leg, the X400 cross trainer has one of the smoothest stride actions that we’ve tested.
These 4 buttons allow most of the functions on the computer to be controlled without needing to stop the upper body part of the exercise to fiddle around with the console.
To get the very best of out of the programmes, you need to use a chest belt which is available as an optional extra.
The reason for the 4 separate heart rate control programmes is that the first enables setting a precise target heart rate and each of the remaining 3 target 65%, 75% and 85% of maximum heart rate. It is a high specification machine with features normally seen on machines at much higher price points. Our only criticism would be that part of the display doesn't have the best contrast ratio when viewed by users shorter than 5' 11" in a brightly lit room.
The machine offers 4 user profiles, has pulse recovery test and body fat test buttons and is fitted with a clear 2-colour backlit LCD display. With a total of 20 challenging resistance levels and iFit SD card compatibility, it’s great for those who want some variety in their workout. In total, there are 23 workouts – not many offer that much variety – and they all have their benefits, depending on your goals. You can buy different iFit SD cards for under ?20, all offering different workouts, such as weight loss, wellness, etc.
Although many advise that a 20 inch stride is preferable, this elliptical offers 17 inches, which I found very comfortable. Compared to others in this price range, it was definitely superior, so I think you’d be hard pushed to find smoother. Even though it helps to save space, I think it’s best to make an exception with ellipticals, otherwise you do lose out on comfort.
As is usually the case with most products from the Nordic range this elliptical is packed with features.  18 inches is the standard stride length, which is adjustable to a maximum of 20 inches via the manually operated incline ramp.
A 9kg flywheel provides challenging amounts of smooth resistance with 20 digitally controlled levels available.
A pretty sturdy product weighing in at 90kg will cope with users up to 150kg maximum and with a 5 year warranty on the frame and 2 years parts and labour on everything else there is no doubting the value for money on offer with this cross trainer. Of all the ellipticals tested, Nordic track always seem to give the most specification and whilst the overall build quality isn’t the greatest, it is a struggle to think of a better crosstrainer at under ?500. At 17 inches and with a rear drive flywheel system, this elliptical has a traditional, slightly cyclical feel to it.  If your experience of using a cross trainer has been with a rear flywheel model in a gym or health club then this will certainly have a familiar feel to it.
Taller users however, may find that the tendency for a rear drive flywheel to tip you forward towards the console, could put pressure on the lower back. The compromise is that you need to be no more than average height to get the most from this cross trainer. You may add this product to your shopping cart in addition to any other items you wish to purchase, check out, and we will contact you by email or phone with a total shipping charge if you live outside the continental United States (assuming the product can be shipped to your area). Minimum distance between pedals to make training easier with the most natural rear drive movement.
It might be worth calling us to discuss the reasons for choosing a Landice. For serious home use or for full commercial settings, easy step on, compact footprint, superior hand built machine with stride adjustment from 17in to 23in.
All Kettler machines are German designed and built ensuring that you get a high quality machine every time. The console features a large LCD display with perspiration-resistant keys and it provides 15 programmes (1 manual, 12 pre-set, 1 user-defined, 1 HRC), 4 users profiles and feedback on time, distance covered, speed, RPM, calories, pulse and performance profile.
Because of your weight, jogging actually places a great deal of stress on the back and joints. Without holding the bar, I feel that my abs will actually work slightly harder in stabilizing my body. Because of lesser impact, there is less wear and tear of the machine, making the maintenance quite low compared with treadmill. I can now do half hour, then weights then another half hour burning a total of 700 calories not including the weights. But now I’m using it on a daily basis, early morning when it is still cool (25 degrees celcius) for about 45 minutes. Gym quality equipment with high tech features that can be folded away once you have finished. The longer stride gives a jogging or walking type of motion when compared to a front wheel cross trainer.
While it feels like a great position, you should watch that you’ve got enough ceiling clearance for any tall users!
There is a manual programme as well as 6 pre-set programmes, a body fat profile programme, 4 heart rate contol and 4 user defined programmes. The 65% programme is most suitable for burning fat (exercising for longer durations), 75% to improve general fitness levels and 85% for a solid cariovascular workout. Once started the pulse sensors need to be grabbed for a few seconds whilst the computer measures the percentage body fat.
It would have been nice to have seen the console tilt-adjustment feature of the X302 (York's top of the range rare drive elliptical trainer). The 20 programmes are designed to keep you motivated, while the 16 levels of computer controlled Silent Magnetic Resistance (SMR) allow for adjusting intensity of each workout. The focus on innovation doesn’t compromise the overall quality though as it’s a solid elliptical offering a very smooth workout.

There are 12 personal trainer programmes, which are great if you need that extra pressure in your ear to get you moving! At just under 6 feet tall, I’ve always found this stride length to be more than adequate so would only advise you to perhaps look for longer if you’re of exceptional height.
The incline ramp has 5 setting positions to a maximum of 20 degrees, enabling users to vary the stride path and work a different set of muscles adding real variety to the type of workouts available. The console has a well lit blue LCD Grafixx display with feedback and program profiles easily identified. The balanced 22kg weighted flywheel and the silent magnetic resistance system has a class A certified ergometer rating.  This really makes for a very smooth ride and with 25 levels of resistance, it would be a challenge for even the fittest of users to maintain a workout at the maximum level for extended periods. The pedal spacing is also quite wide at 7 inches which causes the knees to invert slightly, resulting in a movement which increases hip rotation and creates a slight bouncing sensation.  None of this is likely to concern individuals of average height as the stride and huge crank inertia will still give a workout which makes the E9 ZL one of the best performing compact elliptical trainers at the price point. You may then decide whether to proceed with your order, as I will not process your payment until receiving approval from you for any applicable shipping charges. Unique programs and graphics - like running up the Empire State Building - guaranteed to keep you glued to your workout.
This latest addition features a 16" (40.6cm) stride length, 20kg (44lbs) flywheel for a smooth workout and 10 challenging training programmes, including heart rate control. What’s more, 16 levels of computer-controlled magnetic resistance allow you to always adjust the intensity to suit your training preferences. It is as if you are standing on a cross country ski machine but instead of your feet moving back and forth, the machine forces them to move around in an oval pattern (hence elliptical). If you have ever jogged a lot and without a good pair of jogging shoes, jogging can be hard on your knees, ankles, shins, and back.
The machine at my fitness club actually has a LCD screen showing few cable TV programs (ESPN, MTV and Star Movie).
After reading your article, I try to workout with it for 45 minutes, I find it great for burning calories and toning up! Always make sure that even during the burst of energy, don’t lift the heel and keep your full foot on the pedal.
It’s not small and I had to put it in my garage (soon to be in my new conservatory).
My training is simple: the lowest number feels already as hard as the mid level on the crosstrainer I used in my home country. Gym quality versions offer extremely smooth and quiet motion plus an extensive spec including wi-fi connectivity, iPod and tablet compatibility, inbuilt screens, heart rate monitoring and additional fitness programmes to download. We used a tape measure to check and at the highest point of the stride, the foot pedal is 50cm from the floor level. The stride length is a nice and long 20″ (50 cm) and is suitable for even the tallest of exercisers. By tilting forwards by a few degress, this helps to maximise the time the whole of the foot is support of by the footplated over the course of a full stride, thereby reducing strain on the joints. The console has a large multi coloured LCD screen that is logically layed out. To start a heart rate controlled programme, you simply enter either the desired duration or distance to be covered, the desired carolie burn during the workout and age in years and hit start!
Based a combination of the measured body fat percentage and all of the other data, the computer classifies the user as one of 9 body shapes and runs a 30 minute programme that is professionally designed for the particular body type!
I have tried out smaller, but noticed the difference as the stride length just wasn’t long enough.
As a front drive model, the pedal spacing is nice and close providing a natural and comfortable riding position for the majority of user heights. Alternatively, you may contact me with the product you wish to order and your full mailing address, as I will reply with a shipping quote and availability in your area.
You even get MP3 and a fan, and even the fan is better and more effective than what you see on other machines. With elliptical bike, because your limbs remain in continuous contact with the machine, its operation limits the impact to your joints.
I start to perspire just within 5 minutes or so and I find my butt, thigh, hamstring, calf muscles are being worked on (the stretched feeling).
So I start with that, after 15 minutes I increase the level by one and after 15 minutes back to 1 again. Big name brands that manufacture folding elliptical cross-trainers include NordicTrack, Kettler, Horizon Fitness and Pro-Form. Other features include user friendly consoles with options for personalised entertainment, charging dock and integrated controls plus comfortable oversized pedals.
To check ceiling clearance, add half a meter to the height of the tallest potential user of the machine. The programme continues with the resistance increasing if the heart rate (ideally measured from the optional chest strap) is below target level and reducing if above target. You may also be interested to know that it also includes 24 treadmill and exercise bike workouts too, so you could use on the NordicTrack GX3.2 Upright Cycle, for example. That’s why most fitness experts recommend the elliptical trainer to people who have a hard time exercising because of physical ailments such as bad joints and arthritis.
It’s been about 3 years now, and both me and husband work out for 30 mins daily – amazing machine!!!!! It would have been nice to have seen the console tilt-adjustment feature of the X302 (York’s top of the range rare drive elliptical trainer). If the resistance becomes too hard and you preference is to increase the speed, you can simply over ride the resistance using either the console buttons or the handy resistance control button on the top of the right handlebar. What I really liked was all the feedback for your workout clearly displayed on the console.
Listening to the certified personal trainer, I was talked through my workout from start to end. The E4.2 was the largest I could find that fits nicely in my home gym – not taking up too much space but also not compromising on user experience. Elliptical trainers are the hottest cardio products in the market today, and the BFCT1 is an outstanding entry level option for this category. I do a mixture of low resistance (5-8) for two mins and then high resistance (8-20) for two minutes which helps with metabolic rate. The programme continues until the specificed distance or time is covered, or alternatively when the calorie target for the session is hit (whichever comes first). From now on I’ll use the elliptical exercise machine more often and longer duration than other cardio machines. I would recommend these machine highly, you don’t need to be overweight or injured to get the best out of these machines!
