OnTop is provided with absolutely no warranty.
It is NOT compatible with all devices. It is NOT
compatible with all applications. If it works for you,
that's great, but by using it, you agree that you
will not hold the author responsible for any damage
to your data or hardware.

OnTop DOES THINGS THAT PalmOS DEVICES ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR.
USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR SYSTEM.
IF YOU DO NOT, EXIT OnTop IMMEDIATELY AND MAKE ONE.

OnTop lets you pop one application on top of another.
For instance, you can be in the web browser, and pop up
Contacts, or Tasks, or Calculator, and then come back
to precisely the place you were in the web browser when
you're done.

OnTop requires PalmOS 5. It is recommended for use
on PalmOS 5 devices with square screens (e.g., Treo 6xx
and 7xx), as well as on the Palm TX, T5 and LifeDrive.
It is not recommended for use with PalmOS 5 device
with non-square screens other than the TX, T5 and
LifeDrive, but if you feel like taking that risk,
I can't stop you.

To use OnTop, assign an application to pop up whenever
you press or hold one of the four "hard keys" under
your PDA's display. Just select the key from the drop
down list, tap on an application in the "Unselected" column,
and tap on the right arrow to move it to the Selected column
for the chosen key.

Whenever you press that key, the selected application
should pop up on top of whatever is running (only one
application can be popped up on top of another at a time).

You can assign different applications to different keys.
Moreover, you can assign more than one application to the
same key. Then, when you press the key, you get a list and
can choose which of the applications you would
like to pop up.

To leave the application you launched on top of another,
just do whatever you normally do to come back to your
launcher (e.g., press a HOME button).

Some applications will not work if they are launched
on top of others and some applications will crash if
something is launched on top of them. Applications that
do background processing (e.g., music and video players)
are not recommended for use with OnTop. You will need
to check for yourself which combinations work for you,
since some will not. If the combinations you want don't
work for you, DON'T BUY OnTop.

As a special feature, you can assign a launcher (e.g.,
Applications or Launcher; some third-party launchers
are also supported) to a key. When you launch a
launcher on top of another application, and then select
an application in the launcher, the selected application
will be launched on top of the original application.
This means that you can launch any OnTop-compatible
application on top of any other OnTop-compatible
application simply by ensuring you have a launcher
assigned to some key.

In addition to popping up applications, you can also
pop up control panels, like the time and date panel.

If you're getting a crash whenever you exit an application
launched on top of another, turn on "Compatibility mode".
This may make OnTop a bit less stable.

If you use Desk Accessories, you can also use OnTop as a
Desk Accessory launcher.

Important notes:

- Rotating the display while an application is on top of
another application is not recommended--it may cause a crash.

- Resizing the screen is not possible (and if you manage
to do it, you will probably get a crash) when an application
is on top of another application.

- The title bar of an application launched on top of another
application is darkened. You can also use the free Khroma
utility (search the web for it) to create a theme that is used
whenever an application is launched on top of another
application. Just name the theme "Accessorizer".

- If you assign something to a key press with OnKey, assigning
something to a hold of the same key with myKbd/mySkin is unlikely
to work. But assigning to a hold of a different key should work.
In general, I do not recommend having OnKey and myKbd control the
same physical key.

OnTop comes with a free 8-day trial. To register, simply
purchase a registration code, download the full-version
download which will include "OnTop_Registration.pdb",
hotsync "OnTop_Registration.pdb" on the top of your
OnTop trial, and you should be set. To update to a new version,
turn off the previous one and install a new trial. The trial
will automatically register.

NOTE: OnTop makes use of Accessorizer technology. Accessorizer
is a free utility that creates Desk Accessories out of applications.
You can use Accessorizer's API to implement OnTop-like facilities
in your own applications. (Search the web for Accessorizer source
code.)
