The use of yoga and meditation exercises is an age old practice especially in the Indian culture.
Yoga music is so simple and light that it affects in a positive way on the mind and improves the general outlook of the person. Different types of music categories are there and the judgment of the theme can be done by your own feelings. We sat down with Eric Monkhouse, leader of a previous Yoga and Music retreat here at Xinalani.
Xinalani: Thanks for taking the time to do this interview with us and allowing our readers to learn more about you and your upcoming yoga retreat.
Xinalani: Tell us about your style of music.  What should we expect to hear when we come to your classes? Eric: To finish my masters and start a private psychotherapy practice which focuses on the mind body (somatic) connection. Xinalani: If you could spread your love of life with the world, what advice would you give from your own personal experience? One of my favorite things to do at places like Whole Foods (sometimes the CD listening station is tucked away so you have to look for it), Kripalu, Omega or the retail in a yoga studio is to put on headphones and listen to some of the music they are selling. I tend to stay away from stuff that has loud bells or chimes in the middle of a long tranquil spell since it breaks the mood.


Most of the music works well for other things like massage and other spiritual activities and some of them are just slow and sensual and great for just chilling and romancing. Never thought I would say the word ooomming ( if that is even a word) so much in one blog post.

Last night, my husband and I returned home from Jasmine’s partner yoga class relaxed and grateful for the time we spent focused on each other. I went to a Synergy by Jasmine event held by the Sustainable Business Network of Philadelphia. They’ve to work all day long and then they find virtually no time due to their health resulting in numerous conditions and problems. The western world was the first ever to understand why and exercised several types of relaxation and yoga. The Indian music which has got the chanting of terms in a fashion that it’d produce a picture in your thoughts, which enables you to feel much better every single day.

Along with this there is another option which is almost regarded as a technique of yoga- Yoga music. The theme or music that can help in soothing you mind is the one that goes well with your spirit of self realization. It was a week of fun, sun and yoga in a jungle paradise, where freedom and spontaneity made new friends, as the adventurous members of our warm-hearted group. I like pulsing electronic music with soul, heart and dare I say, “balls”  (this correlates to the root and second chakra). Over the years of leading retreats, I have learned to maintain a very safe and solid container, whilst trusting the numinous quality of the group dynamic. There will be abundant space and support to pause, breathe and listen; to peel away the layers of detail, busyness and separation and move into and from a place of freedom. One of my main tasks when I am at Kripalu is to plunk myself down and go through dozens of CDs and then only let my self buy my favorite 10%.  I love having cool music to do yoga to so here are my yoga music reviews. These beats are faster moving and funkier…they feel almost african at times since there are some deep rhythmic beats in some songs.


I really liked doing partner yoga – I was able to help my partner stretch and also relieve my own strained back. The yoga is among the best methods for getting gone all these issues and get connected to the elegant life of joy and peace.
Various techniques are available which can be chosen by any person according to the ways of living and his lifestyles. Indian classical music is based on the tones of Bach, Vivaldi and Mozart generally which are closely associated with the yoga music. I have played this for lots of non-yogis when I was just chilling at home and they commented on how beautiful and soothing the music is. Often, my students come up to me after class and ask what the music was, so I know I am on track with finding the right tunes. Beginners can start by 5minutes each day and then continue to increase the time for meditation. There is a deep healing quality to their songs and they seem to be very therapeutic whenever I am going through “stuff”. Sahaja yogis have discovered various musical pieces though their own way of gaining self realization.
This CD works better for just chill hang out music since there are some spoken vocals on it that can be distracting.
