Es ist heute belegt, dass Menschen durch Meditation ihr Gehirn beeinflussen und so auch ihr Wohlbefinden steigern können.
I was inspired to do a 10 day residential Vipassana meditation course by my Indian teacher when I lived in Vancouver.
During our classes, Yulia shared her experience of taking a 10 day meditation course called Vipassana.
There is no charge for the course – not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. Meditation helps a lot if you want to find yourself, if you have questions or are just confused about life. By this point, that vow of silence did start to feel like a vacation of sorts, a respite from the external world, that world that often precludes us from truly going inside.
Start with the fact that scientists discovered decades ago that viewing electrons in motion actually changed their trajectory.
Therefore, if the Universe is made of electrons and we can influence the activity of those electrons, we can influence the Universe.
Evolutionary pressures dictate that our species-specific interface, this world of our daily experience, should itself be a radical simplification, selected not for the exhaustive depiction of truth but for the mutable pragmatics of survival.
If this is right, if consciousness is fundamental, then we should not be surprised that, despite centuries of effort by the most brilliant of minds, there is as yet no physicalist theory of consciousness, no theory that explains how mindless matter or energy or fields could be, or cause, conscious experience. I believe that human consciousness is a conjuring trick, designed to fool us into thinking we are in the presence of an inexplicable mystery. Now, are there lots of charlatans and phonies out there hustling this stuff to make a buck? Ted Krever watched the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, went to Woodstock (the good one), and graduated Sarah Lawrence College with a useless degree in creative writing. Ted now writes novels and sells mattresses in Staten Island NY, a job which registers at a loathsome -98 on the Cosmopolitan Eligible Male Job-Status Guide. If you really aren’t doing anything, and are looking for something that can help you change yourself into a better human being, then we have a solution! Whichever style of sitting you choose, once you are comfortable, keep your hands in your lap. The post Vipassana Meditation- Its Procedure And Its Techniques appeared first on STYLECRAZE.
Alpha meditation helps one to experience the power of the subconscious mind for spiritual growth and inner transformation. Sit in a comfortable upright position to facilitate the flow of energy and prevent you from falling asleep. The post An Introduction To “Alpha Meditation” – Procedure and Techniques appeared first on STYLECRAZE.
This meditation practice teaches us to be mindful that positive and negative experiences come and go so craving the positive and feeling averse to the negative can only lead to unhappiness. Apart from the lunch hour and breakfast hour, there was no other activity scheduled apart from meditation, simply because continuous practice is thought to be the route to success. Staff include past students and volunteers, all AMAZING and the meditation hall is so warm and cosy and decked out with all the cushions, blocks and blankets you could need.
There will be many moments and days of despair but these comforts really really do help so well done team Vipassana. People were falling asleep left, right and centre during meditation – heads rolling, bodies jerking and the sound of snoring drifting across the main meditation hall. DAY FOUR: the routine slowly started growing on me and faces around the hall seemed lighter. DAY SEVEN: I felt like I’d turned a corner and my emotions (in and out of meditation) starting balancing, finally! DAY NINE: I felt like I was climbing the walls with frustration as minutes felt like hours and the hours felt like days. On a separate note, your blog got me thinking, and I wondered whether I could ask you a rather left-field question? I am currently training as an actor and one of the key aspects of my training is in developing the ability to allow oneself to be emotionally affected by another person’s remarks, or to put it another way, to take things very personally. My question, if you would be so kind as to offer a response to what has been a rather perplexing issue for me, is whether or not you think the teachings of Vipassana are in any way in direct opposition to that of my current actor training?
For me, attending a Vipassana was not life changing but more of a one off experience led by curiousity but it was one piece in the ever evolving journey to greater awareness development (or mindfulness as most call it). A question about the accommodation (i know, superficial) – are there individual rooms or is it shared acco. I have a quite a natural beauty regime so it wasn’t hard being away from my beauty supplies but the teachings and experience definitely help you feel less attached to material possessions.
I don’t feel different day to day but the teachings have stayed in my mind and i think about them.
Time went by slowly yes but when else would I get to be silent for ten days at any other time in life?!
Sounds like a very strong mind would be needed to go through all the pain, the physical pain I mean. The latter means to see things as they really are, that is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation. I remember myself for the first four days thinking about one particular thought all the time that drove me nuts.In fact, our mind can be compared to a record player as it keeps playing the same thoughts To top it, the modern obsession with multi-tasking adds to the woes.

It has been mentally hard to be on my own here without my friends from home, internet and yummy food. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit from it. Once there, I was assigned a roomie, a cabin, and a designated meditation cushion—and gently stripped of almost everything else. Goenka, the world’s leading teacher of Vipassana meditation and founder of the first center in India in 1969, “we naturally have ‘monkey minds,’ minds that want to swing from branch to branch.” Our minds jump from thought to thought, an endless labyrinth of associations that can (and often do) drive us completely nuts. I learned how to practice the virtue of ‘equanimity’ by observing or methodically scanning my body for sensation.
I relished in the quiet of those days, and held imaginary dialogues with daisies and ladybugs, debated with the caterpillars, and looked for my own personal graffiti in the clouds.
Quantum physics has found a consistent (if mystifying) framework to the universe that supports the concept of a universal subconscious, that explains why optimists live longer than pessimists, why prayer and positive thought have a physical effect.
It’s the simple realization that life is, at its most basic level, truly interactive. Space-time, matter and fields never were the fundamental denizens of the universe but have always been, from their beginning, among the humbler contents of consciousness, dependent on it for their very being. For the point of an interface, such as the Windows interface on a computer, is simplification and ease of use.
Of course, there are—no matter what you believe, there’s someone trying to exploit it for money.
How do you learn that here? To focus on the falling movement of the stomach, you have to let go of observing the rising movement. Today, people are practicing meditation to find a sense of calmness in their fast-paced, stressful and chaotic life. Alpha meditation is a scientific method that sets free, and then controls the power of the subconscious mind. You can take the help of a meditation teacher or audio files to guide you through the procedure. You can loosen yourself by taking deep breaths through the nose, exhaling as deeply as you can.
Here, you imagine the number 3, three times in your mind’s eye, followed by the number 2 and then the number 1. Often, this form of meditation helps you find solutions to problems that you would otherwise not have found in a conscious state of mind.
Having just landed back to earth after TEN days of silent meditation in Hereford, I’m eager to spill the beans. I know one of the key reasons the week is spent in silence is so that no one discusses and compares their experiences.
No books, pens, phones, music, gadgets, cameras or exercise (including yoga) and no religious practices, rites or rituals. We were also governed by the gong, with the first dreaded gong waking us at 4am and the last one that signals bed time goes at 9pm. For the first time I felt like a small weight had lifted and I smiled inside as a new twist to the technique was taught. Having felt like I’d sorted my life out, found a new career, fixed my relationship and balanced my mind, I felt ready to go home. I even hummed in the shower with a cheery glow inside and counted down the minutes until we could talk again. I just had to cancel my invitation to a Hereford retreat this February but am hoping to attend one in April instead. This is all part and parcel of allowing one’s true impulsive feelings to play out, thus conveying what is considered in acting terms one’s ‘truth’. Since then I’ve practised simple but effective meditations through my weekly hatha yoga classes (classic and very slow). Vipassana is a really extreme place and method of meditation so I honestly wouldn’t feel so bad or beat yourself about it. I am an absolute novice but doing it as it comes highly recommended by friends who have done it.
Only began meditating in earnest about six months ago, only for 30 minutes or so a day, but the change in me has been profound. I would have done the same and I would have imagined that a meditation course like this would also trigger a change in beauty.
You should definitely do one – despite how hard it is, you learn lots of lovely philosophies that can be applied to real life for a more harmonious way of living. I'm a magazine writer and online editor with a penchant for stylish, beautiful things with an ethical touch.
Der Meditierende übt dabei, diesen Empfindungen eine wohlwollende und akzeptierende Haltung entgegenzubringen.
We were starting to meditate for 10 minutes at a time and slowly increased that time a few minutes every class. More than ever, it has become important to learn to relax and live wisely in the present moment. However, students are free to contact the management about their any needs, and to speak with the instructor.
There are about ten hours of meditation throughout the day, interspersed with regular breaks and rest periods.

I looked around during the orientation, my fellow meditators looking doe-eyed without an iPhone or Blackberry on which to focus. I was taught to simply to be a witness to the natural ebb and flow of my anatomy, which fortified my grasp of ‘“the universal law of impermanence,” a hallmark of Vipassana’s teachings.
I realized that I was essentially being handed a tool that I would be able to carry with me for the rest of my life, and found myself approaching each “sit” with more clarity and intention.
We click icons because this is quicker and less prone to error than editing megabytes of software or toggling voltages in circuits. As you focus on the movements, you realise the rising and falling is not a continuous string. In this relaxed state, the brainwave becomes slow to half the normal frequency of 7-14 pulsations per second. It helps to refresh one’s mind and body for the attainment of health, success, happiness and creativity.
As you visualize each number 3 times, your mind will activate a part of it that is not used very often. Yes, I was on a Vipassana meditation course and my, my, was it tough but with mindfulness, consciousness and awareness being such hot topics right now, it’s more relevant than ever to learn what we can learn from these ancient practices. What each person goes through is very personal and unique so please bear in mind this was my personal experience and not necessarily what others went through.
For the first time also, my mind stopped resisting to the regime and it did in fact quieten down a little. Some had built huge sofa-like constructions,  with multiple layers of block, cushions and blankets.
Each video and audio recording left everyone with a rosy, warm glow and a new, more harmonious perspective on how to live life. It’s learning that all feelings (good and bad, happy and sad) are transcient and ever-changing.
My best advice, as someone who has continued to develop meditation skills since then, it’s start with some very simple breathing techniques for just a few minutes a day.
I wonder with how many bags though did the rest of ladies leave ;-)) Love the rose oil that you mention.
Unfortunately they expect you to carry on meditating (for two hours a day!) to continue to feel the benefits, which is quite unrealistic.
10 days sounds almost unbearable to me and to someone used to constant chatting and communication which counts for many of us! We get attached to those things quickly without realizing that we can perfectly live without them.
Chairs are provided for those unable to sit comfortably on the floor because of age or a physical problem. These are two separate actions, just like how a stone that you throw up in the air remains stagnant for a second before falling down.
But at one point I sneaked a peak to look around the room and saw strained faces with eyes shut tight, searching for the meaning of life.
Occasionally tears flooded my eyes from the pain of sitting in Strong Determination but obviously I was determined to get through it.
The only thing that kept me going was the fact that Noble Silence would be lifted at ten am the following day, hoorah! A regular practice should strengthen awareness which I think could in effect help your actor experience more than hinder.
The course also gets a lot of repeat students…Definitely for anyone who has the will power! I can really imagine the emotion on the last day when people could finally communicate and share their experiences-wow. Viele Menschen, die das beherrschen lernen, stellen fest, dass sie die Umwelt und die eigene Person anders erleben. On the eleventh day, speech is resumed as a way of re-establishing the normal pattern of daily life. Imagine how powerful it would be if you were tuned in to the minute changes of your mood and feelings without reacting to them. Even if you’ve meditated before, the technique is slightly different to other forms (eg. It sounds incredibly painful though;to have so many feelings, emotions and thoughts in your head but to not be able to express-didnt you feel like your head would explode?!
Continuity of practice is the secret of success in this course; silence is an essential component in maintaining this continuity. When you try to understand your abdominal movements, you are actually getting to know how your stomach performs it. A close friend and colleague of mine in New York had been raving about it for years, and I finally decided to look into it. He shares how he wanted to run away after the first day and how he even packed his suitcase, but one woman asked him to give this program another trial day.
