When we start to have too much stuff, it can really put a weight on us.  An emotional weight, but still a weight. Tomorrow (click here for Day two of Help declutter my home )  I am going to tell you about why we need to get rid of things, but before you move to day 2, I want you to make yourself another list (yes, you are adding to your clutter with this list!) and write down the reason that you keep things. Example:  I keep these 10 packs of return address stamps because I like to have some for each holiday.
I am an organizing blogger too, but right now I’d be terribly embarrassed for someone to see my home and how cluttered it is.
God made decluttering easy for us: we moved twice, had two floods, and are moving to Nepal. Great encouragement to do the hard thing that we all tend to put off, but desperately NEED to do. Secondly, of late He has been speaking to me about clutter and I must now schedule time not to try and organize clutter but to get rid of it. A lot of times we keep gadgets, tools, toys, art supplies, et cetera around because they seem useful. Of course, there are obviously exceptions to this rule (including seasonal items that you usually regularly in season). Maybe you have a piece of artwork or a trendy outfit you picked up because they were popular and you felt like you should love them, even though you really don’t. One of the most common causes of clutter is a fear of needing something that you’ve given or thrown away. It’s important to remember that both your time and the space in your home have value.
Think of the possibilities of what you could do with a closet or storage area in your home if you weren’t holding onto everything that currently fills it. Be sure to download and print this decluttering questions printable to keep these questions handy as you make decluttering decisions! A few things you should know about me: I'm a wife and mother of 6, as well as a full-time work-at-home mom, a passionate entrepreneur, a homeschooler, and an INTJ, with a heavy emphasis on the introvert!

Imagine what it would be like to be able to find things easily and have an organised, clutter-free home and office. Even when nothing untoward is occurring in your life, the organisation of your home or office can get out of control. Together we can decide what areas of your personal or professional life need attention, which will create a sense of relief in knowing that everything is where it should be and is under control.
Perhaps your nest is now empty, or your garage is bulging, or you simply cannot find your passport.
If you've just put your house on the market, we can help you sell your home by organising and packing away some of your personal belongings to provide a clearer vision for potential buyers to imagine themselves living in your home.
There are so many practical matters that need to be dealt with, such as sorting through a loved ones personal effects, organising a funeral, understanding the legal processes, dealing with solicitors and possibly organising the removal of unwanted goods left by the deceased.
With complete sensitivity, we at Tapioca Tidy are able to offer practical support and guidance during this time. Not only will Tapioca Tidy organise the foregoing to heck and back, but we arrive armed with a professional shredder for those papers you no longer need to keep!

We asked Washington DC's organizing and de-cluttering guru Nicole Anzia of Neatnik for some more words of organizing wisdom. But Nicole says these five missteps are the most common in her line of work — and most likely to derail even the best efforts to conquer clutter. Rirst it was at your post of teaching children to stop looking everywhere and look up and that was a direct message to me. While there are varying degrees of this and not everyone chooses to live a minimalist lifestyle, there’s no way to get around the need to declutter regularly as part of your simplifying goal. The reality is that if you commit to simplifying and decluttering, chances are that this will happen at some point.
Obviously your answer will depend on the type of cook you are, but ask yourself this question whenever you have multiples of any item. As you’re decluttering, look at any specialized tools or items you have and ask yourself if you could do the same job with another item, thereby cutting down on the number of different things you keep.
Perhaps you have a piece of broken furniture or a broken electronic that you’re just sure you will have the time and desire to fix at some point. What about a shelf full of knickknacks or books that don’t really interest anyone in your home?
Are there items in your home that you need to give yourself permission to give or throw away? And I'm pretty sure fair-trade chocolate, loose leaf tea, and Starbucks lattes are among life's greatest pleasures.
But when we hit those bumps in the road and suffer a bereavement, go through a divorce, change job, have a baby, or move house, life can become even more of a challenge and that is where the services of Tapioca Tidy really come to the fore.

It could be that you’re expecting a baby and need help in preparing your home for this exciting event, or your wardrobe is croaking yet you can’t find a thing to wear. You just might be feeling completely weighed down by it all, and that is where we can help. 2 years ago10 ways to maximize storage in a small home 2 years agoTiny Houses: How big is still small? Instead of giving us additional organizing and decluttering tips and strategies, Nicole though it would most helpful to tell us what NOT to do when trying to harness chaos in our homes. Here are a few things that you can probably donate or give away and start living a more simplified, streamlined life. Sure, I love all of it…but wanting to keep it and having the space to keep it are two very different things. If you haven’t touched it in three to six months (or more), despite your best intentions, it is a good candidate for decluttering. Keeping a painting from your grandmother that you love even if it doesn’t have a place in your current home is much different than keeping a snowcone maker that you have been meaning to use for two summers but never seem to have the motivation to actually pull out.
In all of these cases, it’s important to consider how you really feel and make your decisions based on those feelings rather than the ones you think you should have! But for those of us who take the plunge to get rid of the unnecessary, the benefit of a clutter-free home is almost always worth the tiny bit of regret in these situations. There’s a difference between being prepared and more efficient and just creating clutter! To use another kitchen example, I decided to simplify our entertaining by giving away a bunch of our serving bowls once I bought a set of beautiful stainless steel mixing bowls from Ikea. Or how about the time you spend sorting through the things in storage time and again to either find something you do need or want or to try to declutter once more.
Your space has value too, and it’s important to look at the cost of everything you keep in terms of the space it occupies as well.
Our aim is to swiftly and effectively resolve organisational matters that have either become overwhelming, or you simply don’t have the time to take care of. But here's the crucial part: Once you have decided where something is going to go — take it there.
I use these every day for cooking, but they also make great bowls for chips, dip, ice, et cetera.
If you're donating something or giving something to a friend or family member, put the items in your car or make arrangements for dropping them off.
