As the holidays quickly approach, Americans across the country may be finding themselves in a time crunch. With a workout buddy, you will always have someone spotting you and monitoring your technique, which will ultimately force you to perform exercise routines properly and with good form! With someone there with you for each step of your workout, you will be forced to complete every rep with great effort.
Another great benefit of working out with a partner includes the motivational support you can receive and give to one another.
Two minds are typically better than one and this particularly applies when working out with a partner! We live in a day and age where we communicate and stay in contact with our friends via Facebook, email, text and Instagram. Believe it or not, there is research that suggests group exercise helps the human body release a flood of chemicals in the brain that trigger similar responses to that of dancing and laughing.
Now that you have learned about some of the benefits that working out with a partner has to offer, it’s time to actually give it a try! As the seasons change and sweaters yield to swimsuits, many of us get the itch to get back out there and exercise. To get the 411 on getting fit, we asked fitness guru and creator of VIPE, Marlies Korijn, to share her motivational secrets.
I drink a protein shake two hours before my workout to get the best results – Body Brilliance Vegan Protein Formula in chocolate flavor with almond milk is my favorite.
Remember that exercise can include games and team sports as well, which can be more fun than going to the gym.
Marlies: Overeating when you feel like you’ve “earned it” can be a problem for a lot of people.

Chris Jordan, director of exercise physiology at the Human Performance Institute in Orlando, Fla. Jordan says high-intensity circuit training (HICT) has been around since 1953, but it is being embraced again as a way of saving on expensive gyms and equipment, as well as time. As well, Jordan said the exercises use the larger lower muscles then the smaller upper muscles, which helps reduce muscle fatigue.
With the combination of aerobic and resistance training in a high-intensity, limited rest design, participants can really feel the burn.

When people have more holiday activities and less free time, the first thing that usually gets cut out of a person’s schedule is exercise time.
Working out with a partner can transition you from performing a boring, mildly challenging workout to a high-intensity, grueling workout session.
The pressure of having your fitness partner watching your every move will likely pressure you to perform exercises as precisely as possible. Your partner can offer a different opinion and continue to provide advice on how your endurance and strength levels can improve. Although there is nothing wrong with social media and other tech formats of communicating, human interaction is still important!
If you are serious about making a healthy lifestyle change and really want to incorporate fitness into your daily schedule, it’s important that you exercise in a manner that will make you happy! If you live in South Florida, try my outdoor circuit training beach class with a partner this Sunday, November 10th. One of the best things about winter is indulging in hearty comfort food and snuggling up inside.
Trick your muscle memory by gradually increasing to heavier weights with fewer reps or alternating between upper and lower.

The researchers believe it’s an efficient way to get aerobic and strength training in one. But he believes the routine would fall on the side of strength training and less on aerobic and cardio development. But he says it wouldn’t likely compare to someone doing significant amounts of aerobic exercise, such as biking. When body weight is used as resistance, it eliminates the limiting factors of access to equipment and facilities. The whole circuit (which can be repeated two to three times) should take about seven minutes and Jordan says to do it no more than three or four times a week. When you workout with a partner, you will be more motivated to push yourself to do that extra rep or run faster.
As a licensed physical therapist and a strong advocate of injury prevention, I appreciate the partner workout approach because it helps in reducing physical injuries. Instead of always going to a movie or going out to eat with loved ones, switch it up and workout with them! Whenever you are stressed or feeling down, workout with a partner to talk and exercise your way through your emotions. For this edition of my customized Sweaty Sunday Funday Beach Workout, we will be meeting at Fort Lauderdale Beach at 10:30AM! But months of fondu and hot cocoa without access to the great outdoors can lead to a little softness – often conveniently shielded from judging eyes by equally soft and snuggly sweaters.
I personally love spin, TRX and boxing because I get inspiration through action and sports!

Essentially, this is where women can find legitimate, trusted health advice along with learning how to develop a positive body image. Here you’ll find educational and scientific articles, news columns, and book reviews. This persona is for the power woman who desires to change the world while also being sweet and generous, having a clear identity outside of what she does for a living. To combat this holiday epidemic, I have a little piece of advice: get a holiday workout buddy!
Some studies have even shown that working out with a friend or group of friends is more stimulating and motivating than working out alone.
Remember, some results are better than none and your partner can encourage you to keep going so you get to the fitness level that you desire! Wouldn’t you rather establish a tighter bond with a friend or boyfriend while getting in shape? If you would like to attend, feel free to bring a friend or family member so you have a partner to workout with! As a healthy alternative I’ll go for Wasa multigrain cracker with a slice of low-sodium turkey or cut celery sticks and radishes dipped in hummus. We’ll focus on intentional entertaining, drawing ideas from different eras while integrating modern sensibilities.
We’ll educate on the art of communication through relational psychology, love languages, and the importance of knowing and evaluating your core self. This is a place for the intellectual woman and anyone who wants to enhance their conversations. Have you ever considered asking a friend, significant other or family member to get fit with you this holiday season?
It will make your holiday planning simpler and allow you and your partner to establish clearly defined goals and workout appointments. Working out with a friend or significant other can add another dynamic to your relationship, which can ultimately make you happier and more secure in your relationship. Suddenly, so many activities are available to us again, but after months of lethargy it can be difficult to know where to start.
I recommend snacking on healthy snacks frequently and don’t allow cravings to get in the way of your workout routine.
Yet, building a workout routine, whether for the first time or just after a long time, doesn’t have to be daunting.
I will also splash some Organic Stevia Sweet Drops in my water bottle to switch it up (peach mango is my favorite). In fact, there is plenty of research that proves how helpful having an exercise partner can be! This study also revealed that working out with a partner during aerobic activities in particular is extremely motivating, leading to a better, more efficient workout session. To receive daily fitness and health tips, follow me on Instagram and “Like” my official Facebook Fan Page. Government agencies, health media outlets and credible fitness brands alike have all published articles on the positive benefits associated of working out with a partner. According to the Kohler Effect, in order to maximize motivation, your workout buddy should be about 40% stronger than you are.
When you pair yourself up with a partner who is in better shape than you, it tends to force you to not want to be the weakest link.
Honestly, when you think about it, who wants to work out with someone who is not more fit and motivated?
If you are serious about getting physically fit, you want to surround yourself with disciplined, athletic individuals who can positively influence you and your health decisions.
