Ronna Kabatznick is a social psychologist who has been practicing Vipassana meditation since 1985. She has been a licensed clinical psychologist since 1992, and has studied and practiced mindfulness, including Zen meditation, and T'ai Ch'i Chuan, for over thirty years. Segal's other clinical work has included extensive use of art therapy and guided imagery as means of being present in the moment with thoughts and feelings.
She is trained in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for Depression (MBCT) and teaches MBCT as well as Mindful Eating classes throughout the Bay Area, including Insight Meditation Center and Sprit Rock Meditation Center. Kabatznick was the psychological consultant to Weight Watchers International and helped create their behavioral weight management program. In addition to her Mindfulness-Based Cognitive therapy groups, Anne has taught Mindfulness and Insight Meditation at San Francisco State University, The Wright Institute, Family Service Agency of Marin, and Mission Dharma.

She has also taught stress reduction mindfulness based meditation classes with Jail Psychiatric Services for San Francisco County Jail-San Bruno and San Francisco Drug Court and a variety of community based social service programs. Dr Segal trained with MBCT founder, Zindel Segal, and teaches Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) classes and offers individualized instruction in MBCT. As a founding member of The Bay Area Eco-Psychology Group, she integrated mindfulness practice into group processes in wilderness settings and has published several articles on this subject. Her best selling book, The Zen of Eating: Ancient Answers to Modern Weight Problems, is now in its 8th printing and has been published in five languages. Kabatznick is is a consultant on a research study in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF, investigating the efficacy of MBCT on treatment resistant depression (TRD). Her Berkeley private practice focuses on helping clients apply meditation and mindfulness to challenges related to weight, depression and relationships.
