I practice mindfulness meditation daily and I know that because of this daily routine I have reached a more calm and positive perspective in life. Just before you sit down to meditate it’s important to have a quick stretch and see how your body is feeling.
Sit cross legged on the floor and before you settle, slide both hands under your bum cheeks and pull them back. Try to focus on your breathing and be aware of it coming into your body and leaving your body. We often don’t take a moment to really sit and listen to the background noise of the world. Once you’ve done the body scan, focus on your body as a whole and enjoy the sensation of calmness and looseness you have achieved! After however long you continue to meditate for (I would suggest to start with 5 minutes and then move onto 10 minute meditation and beyond), slowly open your eyes and take in your surrounds with your mind and body at peace. The purpose of meditation is to calm the mind, achieve inner peace and, eventually at some point, reach a higher spiritual dimension or being!
So, when starting off, don’t be worried with the quality of your meditation, how long it was for, if you became distracted half way. With all the stress and anxiousness, I tried meditating today and even if it was for 5 minutes only and I wasn’t in a complete state of calmness, it did help me and my mind feel a bit better for the rest of the day. I’ve been feeling very anxious lately, so I’ll definelty try to meditate every morning and evening, and hopefully I will become a more calm person!

Maybe it’d be a good idea to turn off all the gadgets and teach them the practice of meditation? Get an itch on your nose, scratch it, listen to your kid reprimand you for not sitting still. Seven seconds later open one eye to see the kids making faces at each other, give up, go home, send them to their rooms, and enjoy the quiet.

This summer, and a few times prior, I’d have weeks where I was feeling really low for no reason. Meditation, in any form, for any amount of time, will never be anything but beneficial to your life. Do this as many times as you feel you need to relieve any stress or negative feelings you are having. I like to imagine a buoy floating in the ocean, bobbing up and down with the swell and lull of your breathing or a flower sitting in your tummy and opening its petals with every breath you intake! Just make an effort to refocus your mind on your breathing and try to think of nothing else. Continue your inhale & exhale and slowly start to listen and accept all the different sounds happening around you.
Make a conscious effort to send your breath down your body to your toes and relax and release any muscles or tightness. Then continue your inhale & exhale for as long as you want to before coming out of your meditation practice.


Some people take years of practice to achieve the level of awareness or higher consciousness experienced by yogis and monks. Persevere and as long as you feel calmer, happier and more at peace at the end of your practice, you will know that your meditation was successful.
More recently i have been really trying to make sure I meditate at least once a day, it is hard when you’re so distracted by everything going on! This blog post is so refreshing to read and I intend to use meditation as a way to get control of all the different things floating about in my mind. Sometimes when I’m stressed and low, I have to just get some time alone to breathe and try to put things in perspective.

It’s quite funny when you realise how many little noises you don’t hear when your just going about your day! This does not matter because Meditation is a journey, like climbing a mountain, every step along the path of brings you closer to the summit.
They are constant noises of cars and trucks honking and driving by, this makes me feel really disturbed and anxious. Not silent mode because the vibrating is loud enough to wake the dead (which would make your time sitting in the woods even creepier).

It’s so important to take a moment to centre yourself and be at peace and conscious within! Drop your problem into it and see how small it is compared to all of the beautiful aspects of your life.
