Welcome and congratulations for having the wisdom and consciousness to decide to learn more about meditation.
I have been meditating for over 40 years, I have tried many different meditation techniques.
Learning how to meditate does not have to be mysterious or difficult and you don’t have to sit in lotus to become an accomplished meditator. So whether you are just beginning your journey into meditation or are looking for help on the journey you have already begun, I am here for you.
Larry shares with you, meditationPlus, the easiest and most effective meditation technique. Just a few of the benefits that you can expect are lowered blood pressure, stress relief, increased healing, improved mood and brain function, just to name a few. Then we have my favorites, which are expanded awareness and a sense of connection to the world. However, it is such a powerful method of improving almost every aspect of your life that it cannot be neglected. Here are a few videos I’ve created that will answer some questions on learning how to meditate, and calm your mind. Nor is meditation a one-size-fits-all kind of deal: it works for some people more than others. I have made remarkable strides in my life due to the daily practice of meditation, and Henri is right on the money with all the details he has provided in his write up. Also, if your mind wanders like a wild elephant in the jungle, that is, you have several thoughts, go with the flow.
People around you will also start to notice the changes and comment on your personality, and that can also provide you with a reason to continue this habit!
I’ve been looking to start meditating and need something simple and straight forward to start me off. I do notice that when I focus on my breathing throughout the day, even if for 30 seconds or 1 minute, my mind doesn’t wander.
One thing that has helped me tremendously is to let whatever happens be okay, because it’s supposed to be there.
This is a very comprehensive introduction, thank you I just wanted to add that whilst meditation has got this new-age image, it is something very old and sacred. This is a very nicely detailed explanation of meditation and if I should decide to try it I’m coming here first. Instead of reading up on all the books on meditation, this article fits into just focusing on what matters. Plus, the house is quiet, there is a kind of ambient darkness that makes it much easier for me to relax. I guess a lot of people think you have to be a spiritual person to begin meditating, but actually it’s a useful tool for anyone looking to de-stress and recharge their physical and emotional batteries. It’s a different experience to have active meditation when running etc but no less fulfilling.
It’s a fallacy that thoughts are a problem in meditation or that meditation itself needs to be difficult. There will be meditations for all ages so parents and guardians encourage the kids to do the Silent Center For Kidz Meditation or do it with them.
First, you will create in your mind a Sacred Shelf or Sacred Box where you will place all distractions.
What is important is you are letting go of the less than positive emotions and or distractions that would have connected to you and caused even longer and more intense distraction.
State silently or aloud, "Every cell accepts the Divine Light, Order and Love with every breath I take".
You have now energized and heart chakra, all events of day will flow in this source and direction. If you want to keep track of your meditations simply write down your thoughts and how you feel immediately after. It is a simple way to keep track and be open to the wisdom and guidance that is being offered.
This place can be as quick as choosing to go, taking a deep breath, and letting everything else just melt away. You are learning how not to think about what you do not have and be grateful for what is all good around you! See or just know you are walking into the smaller circle and sitting in a comfortable chair.
Just be, breathe, allow for a few moments of silence after allowing the feeling of peace and love to be with you. While the practice of meditation has been around for thousands of years, only recently has there been actual scientific evidence proving that meditation can have a positive impact on your physical health. On a physical level, the practice of deep breathing can lead to an increase in exercise tolerance, decreased muscle tension, higher energy levels and boosts the immune system. We all strive to achieve a more fulfilling life that is full of happiness, calm and success, but rarely do we take the time to focus on how we can bring these positive changes into our lives. How to meditate is quite simple as any act can become a meditation; it is a question of bringing our attention to what we are doing and taking notice.
In Christian spiritual training, meditation means thinking with concentration about some topic. Instead of pushing and straining yourself physically and mentally, just relax; sit in a chair, any chair will do, even the chair at your desk, as long as it is comfortable.
Sit with your feet flat on the floor, hands resting in your lap or on the arms of the chair, and your head comfortably balanced. Bring your awareness to your breath as it is a good way of bringing attention into the "here and now".

Meditation Share - Share your meditation or experience with others as we could all benefit and learn from one another. Meditation is about relaxing and letting go into deeper levels of your being, and sometimes this is best achieved through a passive "non-doing" state. Above all it is about staying with the moment, about being in touch with your surroundings and your inner world, much of which is more easily reached when in the contemplative state, when you allow yourself to be "lost in thought". Instead of hurriedly rushing to be somewhere, slow down and take the time to feel your feet connect with the earth as you take each step. As you walk, be mindful of what you are doing, thinking and feeling, and be aware of your energy flowing through your body. He walked up and down the same path in the forest everyday; he moved slowly, giving total attention to his feet, the movement of his feet, the changing pressures on the soles of his feet, and the reaction of the ground to his feet. ATMOSPHERE - The best environment for the practice of meditation is a quiet place with minimum distractions. ATTITUDE - The best attitude to follow while practicing meditation is that of a receptive observer.
POSTURE - Assuming a certain posture has been central to many meditation techniques however a major characteristic of prescribed meditation postures in many traditions is that the spine is kept straight.
ELEMENTS OF CONCENTRATION - In Hindu meditative techniques, the object the attention dwells on is often a mantra, usually a Sanskrit word or syllable. In Buddhism, the focus of attention is often the meditators own breathing, a luminous sphere or a translucent Buddha Statue. Whether one performs mantra meditation, Buddhist breath meditations or any other for that matter, they all fulfill all the elements required for meditating for relaxation. Like with anything else, by all means immerse yourself in books, CDs and educational material, but remember that it is up to you to experiment and find what works. In the beginning, your thoughts will be all over the place and you will notice yourself getting swept away by them.
Having a straight spine and good posture is important, especially when you’re sitting.
If you’re having trouble meditating or just want guidance, there are always meditation CDs available. How people from different walks of life have reacted to meditation has been well-documented, and there is a lot of literature out there if you want to pursue it.
I know many people who live by a mantra in their meditation, so that’s definitely something you may want to try. I started trying to meditate around 2 years ago but never managed to develop a rountine or get in to the habit. It can seem pretty confusing with all the information out there, but in my opinion, it’s all pretty simple. With all this writing and talking about meditating, I’m going to do a quick 5 minutes right now.
My mind still wanders (a lot!) but your advice to just smile and acknowledge the wandering is spot on.
I think everyone could use a bit of this to ease their minds and lives once in a while – even if it is just once in a while. I have quite a bit of fun exercising when my mind is at its worst, it’s tough but when I let it be it calms down and my whole day gets re-energized. However I read it and, believe me, I practised meditating by reading the article and the comments themselves!
Whether you hold for few minutes or half hour it will be raising vibration, strengthening immune and nervous system.
Remember to periodically go to heart and repeat Divine Light (inhale Divine, exhale Light).
For example… love, trust, happy, or let your imagination take you to a beautiful beach, toes in the sand, or a beautiful mountain top where you can touch the clouds. If you can release from how many times and just connect to the peace that will flow through you. Now that the hard science has caught up, many more individuals are starting to incorporate meditation in their daily lives.
Mentally, daily meditation can build self-confidence, increase creativity, promotes overall composure and develops emotional maturity. It sometimes helps to set up a meditating room with special pictures, icons, holy books or even burning incense sticks and soothing music in order to infuse the atmosphere with spiritual energy.
Try to observe either the mind or the immediate physical environment, without thinking anything in particular. This is true in Hindu and Buddhist yogas, in the Christian attitude of kneeling prayer, in the Egyptian sitting position, and in the Taoist standing meditation of "embracing the pillar." People with misalignments may feel uncomfortable in the beginning when assuming these postures. It is a time to connect to your inner Source and let go of the things and roles we get caught up in: work, parenting, concerns and responsibilities. In 1978 I founded the Spiritual Life Society, Ohio’s oldest yoga and meditation center.
All of the basics can be found in my book How to Meditate, Secrets to the Easiest and Most Effective Meditation Technique.

I like to determine how long I will meditate before I begin, otherwise it’s easy to give up when it gets tough. Stretching before you start will help you relax and be more comfortable while you are meditating. When I first started it was pure chaos in my mind and the rebellion was in full force when I tried to be silent. There’s no use in forcing yourself to meditate hours on end if it is going to make you quit within a week. In the beginning while your mind is in chaos, it can be overwhelming and frustrating, so just accept whatever comes your way. So, I started to devour the works of Deepak Chopra, Herbert Benson, Shakti Gawain, Wayne Dyer, Marianne Williamson, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, and so many other luminaries. For example, I would think about losing weight, getting more exercise, going for a stroll in the park. Andrew Weil recommends this for breathing exercises each day – seems like a form of meditation by another name. It just felt right to me at the time, so if active meditation speaks to you then go ahead and do it. I know I didn’t feel quite comfortable with meditation long ago, but luckily my views have changed and so have yours. Whenever you catch yourself catching yourself, just bring your mind back to focus on your breathing or whatever you were focusing on.
Whether to send love, energize, express gratitude, or share (visualize light around someone or Mother Earth). It is a quiet place even when there is noise and distracting things around you; even when there is nothing to do.
Quiet time, cry time, even angry feelings, time to dream about what we want to be when we grow up, dance, sing, and draw.
Not only can daily meditation lead to deep mental and physical relaxation, it also promotes many other benefits for the mind, body and spirit. Take a look at this infographic, provided byn† Skin Energizer, for a basic guide on how to get started with meditation, as well as find out more information about its benefits. Every emotion you have baby is feeling so learn how to relax & just be one with this special time. Here the objective is to become detached from thoughts and images and opening up silent gaps between them. The spine is put back into a structurally sound line, and the weight of the body distributed around it in a balanced pattern in which gravity, not muscular tension, is the primary influence. It may be that your meditation is peaceful, or it may be fretful and full of obsessive thought. In one of my videos I explain the two major meditation techniques of mantra and mindfulness, and I share with you the advantages and disadvantages of both.
With it you will receive a download of me leading you through a complete meditation session. Once you’ve settled in, pick one thing to focus on, such as your breath, your muscles or even a candle.
Don’t overextend yourself, just have a comfortable posture that you think is good enough. Many subtle changes to your physical body can dramatically alter your mood and thought-patterns. It is possible, although it has not been conclusively proven that this postural realignment affects the state of mind. But more than that, on this website you will find many helpful articles and videos to help you on your journey.
You can sit in whatever way you want, just make sure your spine is straight and you are comfortable. So, actually meditation did not work for me for a long time, and I would get up and walk away without completing my quota for the day. It is the most powerful tool we have, as humans, to stay connected to God, Oneness , our Spirit. Please, learn from my mistakes, and learn how to meditate and reap all of the benefits from your meditation practice. I share with you secrets to relaxation and the three areas in your body that hold the most stress.
Whether your interest is practical, spiritual or you would like to use it in conjunction with your specific religious tradition, whichever one that is, I have been there and I can help. Like you today, I just knew it was something I needed to do, something that would help me lead a healthier, happier, and more productive life.
I will go into details on specific breathing techniques and what to do with your tongue which I describe as the most dangerous muscle in your body.
I sit before you as testimony to the fact that meditation works, that it has done all of those things for me and more. And the focus word or mantra helped me to calm down and prevented other thoughts from entering my head. Slowly, by your focus on that one word and repeating it umpteen times all distractions will begin to fade away, I thought, and it worked for me. Bliss is a feeling that does not require external validation like getting a job, money in the bank, or the buying of a home. The daily practice of meditation has improved my life in so many different ways that it is difficult to document here.
